Miggy to New York?

Today marks the first day of general manager meetings in Orlando, FL and the Florida Marlins may have some interesting trade bait...Miguel Cabrera. As a four time all-star, Miggy is slowly creeping out of the Marlins price range. He made $7.4 million last season and stands to make around $10 million through arbitration in 2008. Not to mention his questionable actions that have made it easier for the Marlins to let him go.
"He has been benched a couple of times for arriving late for games, his weight is a concern and sources say the Marlins are frustrated with his overall attitude and approach." (source)
The Marlins would expect a lot for the services of Cabrera, with rumors flying that he may be heading to New York to fill the whole left by Alex Rodriguez's opt out. ARod's $35 million per season asking price would make Miggy's $10 request look like a bargain. Plus there's a McDonald's across the street from Yankee Stadium in case Miguel gets a yurning for a big mac.

But it's more than just money that may hold up the trade, the Yankees would have to give up major prospects to get him. Would it be worth it for them to break up their young pitching trifecta of Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy and Joba Chamberlain. Or could they be able to dangle Chien Ming Wang? It's too early to tell, but it looks almost certain that Miguel Cabrera will be calling a new town home for 2008.
