Gatorade suffers a loss

Dr. Robert Cade has died at the age of 80 from kidney failure. Dr. Cade is best known as the inventor of gatorade. But do you know the whole story behind it? Sure you've seen the commercials but thanks to University of Florida coach Dwayne Douglas' insiteful question of "why don't football players wee-wee after a game," we all have the delightful sports drink. Cade and a group of researchers learned that players could lose up to 18 pounds a game due to dehydration. So the group used $43 worth of supplies to get the players to pee after the game.

Their first attempt had a horrible taste and even forced Cade to "vomit." But after the addition of "some sugar and some lemon juice to improve the taste" the drink was born. But first it had to be tested tested. They used the freshman squad as not to hurt the "varsity team." Once the Gators started to drink it, they became known as a "second-half team" for their extra energy during the game.

Gatorade is now the leading sports drink in America and heads the $7.5 billion business. The brand features over 30 flavors expanding from its original 4 types.
