Milledge traded: oh the humanity

The New York Mets have traded Lastings Milledge to the Washington Nationals to add yet another catcher Brian Schneider and outfielder Ryan Church. The Mets now have the ability to deal recently acquired Johnny Estrada. I'm so confused, why didn't they sign Lo Duca? Even if it was just to give David Wright a buddy in the clubhouse. Watch out Wright friends, your ass is not going to be re-signed.
Back to Milledge, while Lastings may not have become the blue chipper the Mets were hoping for, he did offer the public his music and that is something that neither Brian nor Ryan have done. I'll miss his smooth rhymes and his weird hair. Can Carlos Gomez give me that? No! Oh da pain. I feel da edge of a knife thrust into my heart. It just won't be the same without him.

Football Update:
It was all it was hyped up to be, but in the end the Packers were unable to keep pace with the Dallas Cowboys and fell 37-27. Packers QB Brett Farve left the game before the second half with an injured elbow and separated shoulder.

St. Louis Rams QB Mark Bulger will miss Sunday's game against the Falcons with a concussion.

Broncos RB Travis Henry is ready to kick some ass this weekend.

The Pats spread against the Ravens is a mere 20 points. Try harder next time.

The Giants look to put their little killing at home against the Vikings last weekend to rest, but they'll be traveling to Solider Field to heal their hearts. Can they get back on track? Find out on Sunday at 4:15 PM/est on Fox.

Baseball Update:
The Mets are interested in Johan Santana but they are not willing to trade Jose Reyes to get him.

More Santana gossip, how about Johan to the Red Sox for Coco Crisp, John Lester and Jed Lowrie?

Jorge Posada says the Yankees should go after Santana...and that Andy Pettite is leaning towards retirement...oh yeah, he finalized a contract with the Yankees.

Aaron Rowand is not sure where he'll be heading in 2008 but he still has his former team the Chicago White Sox on his list. No! Stay in Philly...you know, if they offer you something close.

Speaking of Philly, pitching ace Cole Hamels says he's getting in shape for 2008...And they unveiled new home alternate uniforms.

HBO wants to make a movie based on "Book of Shadows" which among other things chronicles Barry Bonds' steriod use.

Braves Update:
The Braves are planning on offering reliever Ron Mahay arbitration. If Mahay does not sign with the Braves, they'll recieve a draft pick as compensation.

Popo in my crib News:
Houston Texans offensive lineman Chester Pitts was arrested on Thursday and charged with felony evading arrest. Seems Pitts wasn't into hanging out with the popo and sped off after being stopped near Reliant Stadium. Watch out Chester, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: Can it get any worse for the New York Knicks? They just lost to the Boston Celtics 104-59...LeBron James is listed as day-to-day with a sprained finger. The Cavs are totally screwed without him...Phil Jackson got a two year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers worth a reported $24 million...Tom Osborne has declared himself the interim head coach at Nebraska so the Cornhuskers won't lose out on top recruits...Louisville took revenge on Rutgers 41-38...The NHL has approved the sale of the Nashville Predators...And they changed the schedule so that every team plays each other at least one time...The Rangers finally figured out the Islanders in their 4-2 win...Dale Earnhardt, Jr. may have completed his first winless season, but the fans still love him. He was voted as the most popular driver for the fifth straight year...He's also not sure he could follow Helio Castroneves on Dancing with the Stars. However, always thing about the ladies, Junior says he's not opposed to taking a dance class because "the girls like that in the club"... First Aaron Fike thanked his arrest for saving his life, now Tyler Walker is calling his positive drug test a blessing. I wonder what Shane Hmiel is thinking?

Check this out: Love the Hills, you probably love this more. All I have to say is James Francos wig totally distracted me the first three times I watched it!

Tuomo Ruutu mistaken theif

Chicago Blackhawks foward Tuomo Ruutu was mistaken for a robbery suspect and was briefly detained. It seems Ruutu matched the description of a robber.
"He met the initial description," Bensenville Village Manager James Johnson said. "This was just an unfortunate coincidence."
Ruutu who was wearing a black team sweat suit and matching hat, was out on a run following a team practice at Edge Ice Arena when he was spotted. The popo had been on the look out for a man in "a black jacket, black pants and black hat" who had marched into an apartment complex near the arena and demanded money from the office manager.
Ruutu was released after the popo asked for autographs. But it seems the forward doesn't have any hard feelings.
"I was just in the wrong spot at the wrong time," Ruutu said. "It happens to me all the time."
I hope that doesn't mean he gets arrested a lot.

can you see the packers from your couch?

Football Update:
The Green Bay Packers will take on the Dallas Cowboys tonight on the NFL Network at 8 PM/est. The game is being hyped as the biggest NFC match up of the season, as both teams are 10-1 and battling for what could be home field advantage in the playoffs. But many people will be unable to see the game. Of course, I'm not included in that group, thanks to verizon cable, I'll be able to see the game from the comfort of my own couch. What? It's getting like really cold outside, I don't feel like getting in my cold car to drive to a local bar to watch the game.

Injury report, Seahawks Sean Alexander probably in...Eagles Donovan McNabb a maybe...Rams Mark Bulger missed practice after suffering a concussion...Chiefs Brodie Croyle missed practice with an injured back...The Bills will likely be without defensive end Chirs Kelsay and Marshawn Lynch...Cardinals pro bowl safety Andrian Wilson will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his right heel...

Who will be the Browns QB after 2007?

Arizona Kicker Neil Rackers says he's sorry for hitting a camera man with his helmet following the Cardinals 37-31 loss to the 49ers.

Cardinal Antrel Rolle thinks childhood friend and Redskin Sean Taylor's death was not a bulgary gone wrong but rather a targeted attack. Although the popo continues to think it was random.

Baseball Update:
The Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays completed a six player deal that sent Delmon Young, Breandan Harris and Jason Pridie to the Twins for Matt Garza, Jason Bartlett and Eduardo Morlan.

The Rays not only picked up three new players, they also unveiled plans for a new stadium.

...And they may get Troy Percival for a couple of years.

After a failed move to the Mets, Yorvit Torreabla will be staying with the Rockies after signing a 2 year, $7 million contract. He'll be joined by pitcher Matt Herges who got a one year deal.

Speaking of the Mets, they picked up reliever Brian Stokes from the Rays for cash...And if you're wondering what they'll be up against in 2008, just ask Billy Wagner.

The Houston Astors locked up Jose Cruz, Jr., Kevin Hooper, Tomas Perez and Stephen Randolph. All four players have been invited to Spring Training Camp.

Japanese reliever Yasuhiko Yabuta is heading to Kansas City. The two sides agreed to a two-year $6 million contract.

Congratulations to Jon Lester on picking up the 2007 Tony Congiliaro Award given to a plyare who has "overcome adversity through the attributes of spirit, determination and courage." Lester left the 2006 season early to battle cancer. In 2007 he picked up the win for the Red Sox clinching the World Series.

Popo in my crib News:
St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa plead guilty to driving under the influence after being caught by the popo asleep at the wheel. Watch out Tony, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: Michigan has been granted permission to talk to LSU coach Les Miles about their vacancy...Nebraska is down to two candiates for their open head coaching position, Turner Gill and Bo Pelini...UNC beat Ohio State 66-55...UCLA kept pace with the Tar Heels taking out George Washington 83-60. Their preseason All-American Darren Collison returned to the team in his season debut...LeBron James sprained his left index finger in the Pistons 109-74 win over the Cavaliers...While everyone continues to drool over the Celtics, the Orlando Magic own a league best 14 wins after defeating the Sonics 110-94...Sean Avery is out indefinitely after he undergoes surgery on his injured wrist. Avery was hit in the wrist by a puck...Dodge is sticking with the Charger for Cup Series...Mike Helton thought 2007 was a banner year. What the banner was saying, I have no clue...Two-time Cup Champ, Jimmie Johnson will race in the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Bobby Knight: The New Dick Cheney

Two people said they were hit by pellets shot from either Texas Tech coach Bobby Knight or his hunting buddy. The first incident took place on October 20th in Lubbox, TX. Mary Ann Chumley said she was hit on the foot by a stray bullet but that the coach apologized.

"He said, 'I was shooting a bird and I followed it, and I shouldn't have done that, and I know that,"' Chumley said. "He apologized and I accepted his apology. As far as I was concerned it was over."
But his other target has not been as kind. James Simpson says he was shot in the neck and back because he yelled at Knight for hunting too close to his property. Simpson claims three stray bullets had landed in his yard when he started to yell at him. As he turned his back to clean his pool he was hit two times.

"He did it intentionally," Simpson said of the pellets that hit him.
Simpson was hit about 100 yards from where Ms. Chumley was shot.

Knight for his part, is not too excited about this recent development. He told reporters

"That's all been taken care of, that's over with," Knight said. "You haven't heard anything from that guy for two weeks. That's done. I got no comment on that whatsoever because that's absolute (expletive)."

But this isn't the first time Knight has accidently shot a person instead of the animal he was hunting. In 1999, while still coaching at Indiana, he hit his friend Thomas Mikunda with 16 pellets. Knight claimed his finger sliped causing him to nail his buddy. The pair were in Wisconsin at the time. Bobby paid a fine of $582.10. His friend later "accused Knight of coercing him into bakcing his version of the accident to avoid problems while coaching at Indiana." The two settled. What was Knight worried about, ruining his image? I think when he threw a chair and then hit one of his players, his image was about shot.

Football Update:
It was a short comeback for Ricky Williams. He'll be out for the rest of the season after suffering a torn chest muscle during the Pittsburgh Steelers game on Monday. Someone's pissed he gave up the pot.

The Mud Bowl was bad, but will it convince the Steelers to install new turf?

Kansas City Chiefs lineman Kyle Turley is donating his salary for December 23rd's game, $25,000 to help former players.

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed 18 year veteran John Carney to help with thier kicking woes.

Simeon Rice's tenure with the Colts lasted two whole games!

The Patriots activated receiver Troy Brown while placing linebacker Rosevelt Colvin on IR.

Baseball Update:
Looking to add Johan Santana to your roster? It's going to cost you big time. Rumors have the Twins asking the Yankees for a combination of CF Melky Cabrera, one of their three stud pitchers (Joba Chamberlain, Phil Hughes or Ian Kennedy) and a bat. They asked the Red Sox for CF Jacoby Ellsbury and either Clay Buckholz or Jon Lester.

The Cubs will ask for much less for oft-injured pitcher Mark Prior.

The Diamondbacks have made an offer to Japanese pitcher Hiroki Kuroda. The Royals and Mariners are also interested.

Former Colorado Rockies pitcher Dan Serafini was supsended for 50 games for violating MLB's drug policy. Serafini blamed a Japanese doctor, where he was playing in 2006.

David Ortiz is happy with the way he is recovering from knee surgery.

Tom McCarthy will return to the Phillies broadcast booth two years after leaving to announce Mets games.

Popo in my crib News:
Carolina Panthers guard Jeremy Bridges was found guilty of pointing a gun at a woman in a parking lot of a strip club. Bridges will get 60 day suspended jail sentence along with a year of probation, 60 hours of community service and fined $500. His lawyers are planning on appealing. How many times do I have to say it, say away from the strip clubs! Watch out Jeremy, because the popo are on your tail!

A judge ruled that Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Khalif Barnes did not violate his probation after crashing his vehicle into a tree on his way to receive medical treatment. Barnes had been on probation after a November 2006 drunk driving arrest. Watch out Khalif, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: Congratulations to Helio Castroneves on winning season 5 of Dancing with the Stars...Houston Nutt was not unemployed for long. He has not decided if he'll stay with the college to become a fundraiser and goodwill ambassador...They be playing against each other this weekend for a chance to be in the Rose Bowl, but come 2008, USC may join rival UCLA in playing all their home games in Pasadena. Gatorade suffers a loss

Dr. Robert Cade has died at the age of 80 from kidney failure. Dr. Cade is best known as the inventor of gatorade. But do you know the whole story behind it? Sure you've seen the commercials but thanks to University of Florida coach Dwayne Douglas' insiteful question of "why don't football players wee-wee after a game," we all have the delightful sports drink. Cade and a group of researchers learned that players could lose up to 18 pounds a game due to dehydration. So the group used $43 worth of supplies to get the players to pee after the game.

Their first attempt had a horrible taste and even forced Cade to "vomit." But after the addition of "some sugar and some lemon juice to improve the taste" the drink was born. But first it had to be tested tested. They used the freshman squad as not to hurt the "varsity team." Once the Gators started to drink it, they became known as a "second-half team" for their extra energy during the game.

Gatorade is now the leading sports drink in America and heads the $7.5 billion business. The brand features over 30 flavors expanding from its original 4 types.

So dirrty

Football Update:
In a game that rivaled the Giants/Dolphins game in London for worst playing surface of the season, the Mud Bowl at Heinz Field went 59 minutes without a point scored until the Pittsburgh Steelers were finally able to nail the Dolphins coffin for 0-11 with a field goal and a 3-0 win. The field was re-sodded after high school football and Pitt-South Florida games which took place over 17 hours on Friday and Saturday. But the sod, which was placed on top the old field, was drenched by a storm that delayed the game 25 minutes and was unable to drain creating the horrible field conditions on Monday.

Don't boo Philip Rivers or the San Diego Chargers because he'll tell you to "shut up."

Vikings running machine Adrian Peterson may return to the field in time for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions.

Meanwhile, the Bears will be without Cedric Benson for the rest of the season after he undergoes surgery to repair his injured ankle.

While A.J. Feely almost aided the Eagles in knocking the Patriots from their undefeated pedastool, he will not be the Eagles starting QB if Donovan McNabb ever becomes 100% healthy.

The QB wheel continues to turn in Buffalo. Trent Edwards will replace J.P. Losman for the Bills game against the Redskins on Sunday.

The NFL will not punish the Green Bay Packers for their internal performance bonuses.

Baseball Update:
Johan Santana a Yankee? It could happen, the two sides are in preliminary talks for a mega trade that would bring the two time Cy Young winner to the Bronx.

Kerry Wood re-upped with the Chicago Cubs for a one year, $4.2 million contract.

A report has Doug Brocail returning to the Houston Astros in 2008.

Dodgers will play an exhibition game against the Red Sox at the Coliseum.

Red Sox players got $308, 236 each for their win in the World Series. It was down from the Cardinals $362, 173 in 2006, but I think I'd be able to deal.

Braves Update:
Mike Hampton got injured...again! This time it had nothing to do with his elbow which has kept him out of the game for two and half years, but his hamstring is certainly not happy. Hampton had been playing in a Mexican League. Mike Hampton needs to stay away from baseball until he actually has to play. Or he should have a season ending injury so the Braves can collect insurance.

Former Braves Dale Murphy and Dave Justice are among the 17 names on the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame ballot. They are joined by Mark McGwire, Brady Anderson and Chuck Finley.

Popo in my crib News:
The Redskins Sean Taylor has died as a result of a gun shot wound suffered during an apparent armed robbery. Taylor was shot in the leg, but the bullet punchured an artery causing him to lose a massive amount of blood. This was the second intruder entering his home in 8 days. It is not known if the two incidents are related. The 5th pick in the 2004 NFL draft and All American while at Miami University was just 24 years old. He is survived by his 18 month old daughter and his girlfriend who were both in the house when Taylor was shot. Watch out murder, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: Lots of coaching changes in college football, Arkansas' Houston Nutt resigned a few days after knocking off #1 LSU, Georgia Tech fired Chan Gailey even though he never had a losing season during his six year tenure, Duke fired Ted Roof after the Blue Devils lost 11 games, Bill Doba is out at Washington State and Joe Novack retired after 16 seasons at Northern Illinois...But Indiana bucked the trend giving interim coach Bill Lynch a four year extension as head coach...The Phoenix Suns snapped an eight game win streak with a 114-129 loss to the Golden State Warriors...Two game win streak for the Knicks? It's not a dream, after dropping eight in a row, the Knicks sweaked a 113-109 win over the Utah Jazz...Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson was fined $25,000 for not leaving the basketball court in a timely manor...The Tampa Bay Lighting are not being sold, for now. Talks have ceased between the team and a group lead by former Florida Panthers coach Doug MacLean...Jeff Meendering will take over crew chiefing duties for Bobby Labonte's #43 Dodge in 2008...Lowe's Motor Speedway is staying in Concord, NC despite threats by Bruton Smith...Can't be in New York for Nascar's Victory Lap on Wednesday? Tune into Sirius Radio to hear all the action.

Check this out: Good news for fans of Chuck and Life, both series have been pitcked up for a full season by NBC. But that's only if the writers strike is resolved. Wondering how many episodes are left for your favorite shows? Click here to find out.

Nascar's Championship Week in New York City

Nascar will be celebrating the end of the 2007 season and the crowning of two time Nextel Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson in style this week. Here's a look at the details:

PIT STOP TOUR
What: As part of this interactive fan experience, drivers' street teams will park authentic stock cars in a dozen "Fan Zone" locations and give fans a chance to pose for a photo and even win a prize.
When: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today through Friday.
Where: Throughout Times Square.

NASCAR STREET TOUR
What: A parade of tricked-out Ford vehicles will cruise the entire city. Race-related gear will be given away, and fans will be allowed to play a variety of interactive video games.
When: Today through Friday.
Where: Throughout Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs.

VICTORY LAP
What: This is your chance to see really fast cars drive really slowly, as the Nextel Cup's top 10 finishers visit "Good Morning America" and then cruise around the world's busiest intersection at decidedly un-race-like velocities. Drivers include Cup champ Jimmie Johnson (right), as well as Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards.
Better get there early. Last year's victory lap drew more than 100,000 people. (map)
When: 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Where: Drivers will start their engines at 44th Street and Broadway and end their lap around midtown Manhattan at the Hard Rock Cafe on 43rd Street and Broadway.

FAN FEST
What: Getting in on the fun, Hard Rock Cafe will open its doors to NASCAR drivers and their fans as it transforms the music-themed restaurant into an ode to speed, adrenaline and burnt rubber.
Items on display in the cafe will include various race series trophies, including the Nextel Cup trophy (which oddly enough bears no resemblance to a cup).
Drivers and crew members also will be on hand to sign autographs and give away race-related prizes.
When: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
Where: Hard Rock Cafe, 43rd Street and Broadway, Manhattan.

NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES AWARDS CEREMONY

Things I learned at the Giants Game

Giants 17, Vikings 41

1) There is no tailgating at the satelite parking lot in Lyndhurst

2) School buses are a lot smaller than I remember

3) Zooba pants are alive and well and still incredibly ill fitting

4) Fireworks are not allowed in Giants Stadium, which is good because people may have started to throw them at Eli Manning on the sideline

5) When your QB throws four interceptions that result in 28 points, you're probably not going to win the game

6) Footballs cut in half and dyed blue make a lovely alternative to those boring caps

7) On the other hand, anything with horns on them suck

8) Food at the concession stand is self-serve which means you have to take them out of the glass case, idiot in front of me!

9) If your QB throws four interceptions for 28 points a good two thirds of the crowd will leave before the fourth quarter starts

10) When two thirds of the crowd has left the stadium they no longer show fans on the jumbo tron during timeouts

Blue Jerseys Eli

Football Update:
The 49ers won a wild one in overtime on Sunday, 37-31. The niners snapped an 8 game slide after recovering a fumble by the Cardinals QB Kurt Warner in the end zone.

The Chicago Bears lost running back Cedric Benson with an injured ankle during the second quarter of their 37-34 win in overtime against the Denver Broncos. Both teams are now 5-6.

The St. Louis Rams could almost taste their second victory of the year, but instead they had to settle for an all too fimiliar outcome, a loss, a 24-19 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. And their QB Mark Bulger left the game with a concussion.

The Pats narrowly escaped the Eagles claws in their 31-28 win, but they did lose starting linebacker Rosevelt Colvin and backup cornerback Randall Gay.

The Tampa Bay Bucs forced 6 turnovers in their 19-13 win over the Redskins.

Baseball News:
Contract roundup: Torii Hunter signed with the LA Angels of Anaheim for 5 years, $90 million...The Yankees and Alex Rodriguez have a $30 million marketing contract in addition to the 10 year, $275 million deal...Closer Francisco Cordero is on the move, he signed a four year, $46 million deal with the Cincinnati Reds...Reliever Scott Linebrink is close to signing with the Chicago White Sox for $19 million over four years...A few days after trading Johnny Estrada to the Mets, the Brewers have signed Jason Kendall to a one year deal pending a physical.

A box filled with "thousands of rare documents, letters and memos" that account the 1919 Black Sox incident are set to hit the auction block on Monday.

Sad news, Joe Kennedy passed away on Friday. He was only 28. Results from the free agent pitcher's autopsy is expected to be ready in 6-8 weeks.

Indians pitcher Juan Lara was injured in a serious car accident in the Dominican Republic. Two people died when a motorcycle plowed into Lara's stopped car. Lara may be transfered to an US hospital for surgery.

Braves Update:
Charlie Morton, Jairo Cuevas and Zach Schrieber were added to the Braves 40 man roster to protect them from the rule 5 draft. Utility man Pete Orr was removed from the list.

News & Notes: After both LSU and Kansas went down over the weekend, the BSC's new 1-2 are Missouri and West Virginia...Florida QB Tim Tebow broke his hand but is expected to play in which ever bowl game the Gators are in...While their football team couldn't make it passed Missouri, Kansas' basketball team survived a 76-72 OT victory over Arizona...Duke cruised to their sixth victory of the season, a 72-43 win over Eastern Kentucky...Kobe Bryant may have JoJo's hit "Too Little, Too Late" running through his head this morning after the Lakers 100-102 loss to the New Jersey Nets, who are currently on a three game hot streak...When your the worst team in the NHL you've got to know that your job isn't exactly secure. For the Washington Capitals head coach Glen Hanlon time has run out after being fired on Thursday. Hanlon will be replaced by Bruce Boudreau for the interim...He may not have been named the Nextel Cup Rookie of theYear, but David Ragan did collect the Busch Series Award.

Things I Learned at the Ranger Game

Thanks Howard for sending this in. If you are planning on attending a sporting event you can always send in your things I learned at... to popoinmycrib@gmail.com

Islanders 2, Rangers 1

1) Zambonis have brights. Who would have thunk it? But I guess if you
want to pass another Zamboni on the ice, it is a good method.

2) I did not realize they still made Aqua Velva. Either that or the
guys in front of me are stockpiling for the apocolypse. Or you can
tattoo an odor onto your body.

3) Rangers jerseys never die! Pavel Bure, Theo Fleury. People still
wear them with pride. I mean, who wears a Pat Lafontaine Rangers
jersey to a Rangers/Islanders game? A Rangers fan.

4) Visiting sports fans are dumb. I'm all for supporting your team on
the road. But do you need to go around the arena provoking folks? Look
around you. You are at Madison Square Garden and there are 500 Rangers
fans to every one Islander fan. Odds are, unless you are Bruce Lee
('Enter the Dragon' teaches us that one man can defeat several hundred
in hand-to-hand combat if they are determined enough), you are not going
to end up ok here.

5) The Knicks suck. I believe the Knicks have a higher payroll then the
Rangers but I'd still put my money on the Rangers in a basketball game.
Sean Avery would beat down Eddie Curry.

6) Speaking of Sean Avery - The world is against Sean Avery. World,
don't mess with someone who dated Jack Bauer's daughter!

7) Even a beer line is not a peaceful place. As a Rangers fan, I hate
the Islanders. However, I believe a beer line is a sort of Geneva of
concessions lines. Keep the fighting to the other areas, please.

8) What goes best with a hot dog? A kinish. Actually, I already knew
that. But I affirmed it.

9) Two large diet cokes is too much caffeine for me. I'm talking jumbo
movie sized here. So I'm not that much of a wimp.

10) It's gonna be a long season. Not as much for the Rangers. But for
that person wearing that foam puck on her head. It looks like it's
really warm and uncomfortable.

(From Photo Day 2006)

Andruw, don't listen to Boras

Scott Boras may have been ditched by Kenny Rogers and Alex Rodriguez this week, but he is still in good standing with former Brave Andruw Jones. Boras is telling whoever will listen that Jones will not settle for a one year contract but instead will be treated like any other center fielder on the open market. Unlike Aaron Rowand, who had a career year during his walk year with the Phillies, Andruw compiled a .222 batting average, .311 on base percentage, 94 RBIs and 24 homeruns in 154 games with Atlanta.

Boras, the master of making lemonade out of lemons, had this to say about Jones,

"You're talking about a guy with 10 Gold Gloves in a row and 25 home runs 10 years in a row. The fact is, this guy in his worst year had 26 home runs, 94 RBIs and a Gold Glove. When you go back and look at the best center fielders out here today, Andruw's year of [power] production is very close to theirs. And this was his worst year."
Torii Hunter, the leader of the center fielder pack, is expected to make around $15 million over six seasons and Aaron Rowand is looking for a contract bigger than what Eric Byrnes got during the season, a $30 million, 3 year deal with the Diamondbacks.

If I were Andruw Jones, I'd become friends with Warren Buffett and ask him for advise. Or at least find a new agent because the word on the street is,

"Not only have I not heard what [money] Scott is looking for on Jones; I haven't heard anyone other than Washington talking to him about Andruw," said an executive with a big league club in the market for a center fielder. "I assume that Scott is just going to wait until Hunter and Rowand are off the board and then hope the other bidders for those players get desperate."
Run Andruw, run!

Shocking News: Jets fans have poor taste

Giants Stadium is beefing up security and cracking down on "rowdy" Jets fans who have a tendency to chant inappropriate things towards women during halftime. Luckily, Giants fans just toss special snowballs.

The demand for an increased popo presence stems from a New York Times article that featured a report about Jets fans that "gather[ed] on a pedestrian ramp at halftime urging women to expose their breasts. When a woman oblige[d] -- as one did at Gate D on Sunday during the game against Pittsburgh -- the crowd roars in approval."

Goodness, please don't give people more reason to make fun of people from New Jersey. I've spent my entire lifetime trying to change people's opinions.

New Jersey Senate President who should actually be governor Richard Codey said Gate D stood for "drunk and disgusting" but really all of Giants Stadium is drunk and disgusting when its infested with Jets fans.

People attending games at Giants Stadium, like myself this weeked (go Giants!), will see a change in the amount of security. And remember,

"Where people have been caught exposing themselves, they have been evicted from the stadium and often arrested. Where other fans exhibit dangerous or illegal behaviors including harassment, they have been dealt with in similar fashion."
So keep it classy NFL fans in New Jersey, because you really don't want to have the popo on your tail!

Nick Saban is Desperate

Nick Saban is either crazy or desperate. Well, probably a mix of the two. The Alabama Football coach wants his team to rebound from their latest loss, a 21-14 at the hands of Louisiana-Monroe, like America has. He was quoted as saying during his weekly press conference,

"Changes in history usually occur after some kind of catastrophic event. It may be 9-11, which sort of changed the spirit of America relative to catastrophic events. Pearl Harbor kind of got us ready for World War II, or whatever, and that was a catastrophic event."

His team is currently 6-5 and in need of some motivation, but I’m not sure comparing football to Pearl Harbor is exactly the way to go. Football players need more relatable analogies, because let’s be honest, it’s not like they’re going to history class on a regular basis. Maybe compare your team to a broken down car that needs to be restored to its former glory.

Don’t get it twisted, Saban was not comparing football with a national tragedy, he more like comparing his players with people experiencing a national tragedy. There’s a major difference according to football spokesman Jeff Purington,
"What Coach Saban said did not correlate losing a football game with tragedy;
everyone needs to understand that. He was not equating losing football games to
those catastrophic events. The message was that true spirit and unity become
evident in the most difficult of times. Those were two tremendous examples that
everyone can identify with."
Whatever you say buddy. Alabama is gearing up to play its rival #25 Auburn this weekend.

Li'l Romeo is going to College, ya'll

USC is going even more Hollywood. Percy Romeo Miller, aka Li’l Romeo announced he will be attending the southern California school to play basketball in 2008 and will be joined by his buddy DeMar DeRozan.

The pair decided to take the initiative and announced their decision at a press conference held at a posh Beverly Hills hotel. The rapper told reporters,

"This is the most important thing I've had to do and hopefully it sends a message to kids across the country that education is more important than money. Getting a college scholarship is more important than winning an American Music Award, and I plan to be the best student-athlete I can be at USC."

I think Li’l is really speaking to the heart of America. Many kids often have to decide between going to an Award Show and like going to college. It’s a tough decision, just ask the Olsen twins. To balance Romeo’s distorted view of the world, there was DeMar.

"To come from Compton and to be able to get an athletic scholarship at a major university like USC is the greatest feeling in the world. This is a place where I am able to work hard and reach my dreams and will hopefully take this to the pros after college."

Oh yeah, that sounds more realistic. The pair will be joined by Donte Smith, another recent USC recruit.

Miller, whose father Master P has had two NBA tryouts, is ranked in the top 15% of prep guards in the country.

Braves Update:
The Atlanta Braves officially announced Tom Glavines return. During the press conference we learned Jeff Francouer, John Smoltz, Brian McCann and Andruw Jones (who was in Hawaii) were super excited to have Glavine back. Of course, Andruw won't be with the team next year, but it's nice to know he still cares. We also learned the Braves are set as far as starters go. Bobby Cox said the team had 8 players going for 5 spots. The 8 included oft-injured Mike Hampton who impressed Cox and GM Frank Wren during their four day trip to Arizona. The Braves are also interested in adding one more arm to the bullpen.

Popo in my crib News:
Michael Vick has surrendered to authorities early, like three weeks before his sentencing early. Vick is doing the old, I've changed sentence me lighter trick. We'll see if it works. The federal sentencing guideline recommends a year to 18 months for his actions. Watch out Mike, because the popo are on your tail!

In just because its your birthday doesn't mean you can drive drunk news, Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Cato June was pulled over by the popo hours after the Bucs beat the Falcons on June's birthday and charged with DUI. Cato had been speeding when the popo pulled him over. He refused to take a breath test and was brought into the Hillsborough County Jail. He was released on $500 bond. Watch out Cato, because the popo are on your tail!

Glavine coming home

Tom Glavine is back! After five seasons in New York, Glavine has signed with the Atlanta Braves for a 1 year, $8 million contract. Glavine had opted out a deal with the Mets that would have brought him $13 million. The Mets instead bought him out for $3 million making his 2008 total at around $11 million.

Glavine had left the Braves following the 2002 season. During his time away he picked up his 300th career victory and a NL East title but its probably his final start with the Mets that will become his legacy, helping cap one of the worst collapses in major league history.

Tom's return with the Braves has also signaled his bobblehead's return to the top of my TV where his is joined by golfing buddy John Smotlz and Chipper Jones. Welcome home Tommy, it hasn't been the same without you. Now, win us some games!

It's like...snowing?

NASCAR Update:
Jimmie Johnson drove into Homestead with a 86 point lead over Jeff Gordon. Johnson only needed to finish 18th to guarantee his second straight Nextel Cup Championship and with his seventh place finish Johnson was able to wrap up the title. Jeff Gordon must not be a huge fan of the Chase system because under the old system he would have won the Championship in 2004 and 2007. Don't worry Jeff, I don't like this system either.

Onto the race...Matt Kenseth's final race with his long time crew chief Robbie Reiser was a winning event. Kenseth lead early and often taking the race with almost a 1 second lead over Kurt Busch. Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s final race with DEI was not as memorable, Earnhardt was involved with two early cautions and finished 36th, 6 laps down. Meanwhile, Junior's DEI teammate Martin Truex, Jr. was in contention for the win all race finishing 6th to wrap up the 2007 season.
Race Results Points Standings

With his win in the Busch Series on Saturday, Jeff Burton clinched the owner's title for Richard Childress Racing. Carl Edwards won the Drivers Championship.

Congratulations to Ron Hornaday on picking up his third Truck Series Championship.

Ricky Rudd's excited about his retirement.

Following in Teresa Earnhardt's lead, Ray Evernham plans on scaling back his track appearances.

Brian France ruins my Monday morning by saying he isn't going anywhere. Come on, you don't want to go back to LA, hang out with plastic surgically enhanced people, remember the good old days, maybe make some mistakes. Of course they wouldn't be equal to the ones you've made to Nascar but still...

Football Update:
The Giants were able to hold of the lions intercepting two late passes by quarterback John Kinta in their 16-10 win. But the Giants suffered some key injuries by Mathias Kiwanuka (broken leg) and Brandon Jacobs (hamstring).

There some late game heroics by kickers this weekend including Adam Vinatieri's 24 yard field goal that gave the Colts the 13-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, Phil Dawson's field goal tied the game for the Browns and pushed it into overtime of course they had to return to the field after the field goal was intially declared not good. They won 33-30 over the Ravens competing a crazy game. Oh yeah, and the Jets beat the Steelers 19-16 in OT thanks to Mike Nugent's game winner.

The Dolphins still stuck after the Eagles handed them their 10th loss of the season, 17-7. While the Eagles won, the lost QB Donovan McNabb with an ankle injury...11th week of the season, that seems about the right time for McNabb to get injured.

Terrell Owens 4 TDs helped carry the Dallas Cowboys over the Washington Redskins, 28-23.

Sexy Rexy isn't too sexy anymore after fumbling in closing minutes and handing the Seahawks a 30-23 win over the Bears. Got anymore quarterback options?

Bills tight end Kevin Everett has left a Houston hospital 10 weeks after suffering a spinal cord injury.

Popo in my crib News:
20 members of Ole Miss' football team have been put on probation for stealing from hotels. The items, worth between $15-$40, were later paid for by the players. Watch out rebels, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: Who knew, teams in Boston actually lose? The New England Revolution lost the MLS championship to the Houston Dynamo, 2-1. They are so getting their Boston license revoked...While the Boston Celtics were losing their undefeated status with a 104-102 loss to the Orlando Magic. Sad day in Boston, huh?...LSU and Kansas top the BSC poll...The rumors are true, Lloyd Carr will be retiring as the Michigan Football team's head coach...With a 18-40 career record, it's no suprise that Baylor has fired head coach Guy Morriss...The Mets and Luis Castillo have agreed to a four year, $25 million deal...But about that whole Yorvit Torreabla person, seems the Mets have discovered he really isn't worth that 3 year $14.4 million deal and have broken off negotiations. Just sign Paul Lo Duca already...Speaking of negotiations, Kenny Rogers wont have Scott Boras working on his after Rogers fired him. End of an era?...The Blue Jays acquired Marco Scutaro from the Oakland A's for pitching prospects Graham Godfrey and Kristian Bell...Mariano Rivera will re-sign with the Yankees thanks to a $45 million, 3 year deal...Rivera's teammate Alex Rodriguez has been getting advise from Warren Buffett. Well, it's better than Boras.

Kasey Kahne v. the Popo

Nascar driver Kasey Kahne is being investigated for an incident involving the 2004 Nextel Cup Rookie of the Year and a securtiy guard on Friday. Kahne allegedly "bumped into" the guard who had refused to let Kahne into the motorhome parking lot because he was not wearing his credentials. However, according to the article, Kahne was wearing his drivers suit. Unfortunately, at a racetrack, everyone is wearing a flame retardent jumpsuit. Kasey attempted to walk around the guard to enter the lot when the two bumped and the guard went down to the ground.

Kasey Kahne is built like a 12 year old girl, he practically gets blown away by a strong wind, how could he bump into someone and knock them to the ground? Has Gary Coleman gone back to his security career?

Kahne was cuffed for a few minutes when the popo were called while the security guard was treated and released from the infield care center. Kahne will start in the Ford 400 on Sunday. Watch out Kasey, because the popo are on your tail!

Frank Wren Keeps Dealing

Braves Trade Oscar Villarreal
The Braves have traded relief pitcher Oscar Villarreal to the Houston Astros for outfield prospect Josh Anderson. Braves GM Frank Wren calls Anderson an advancement in their centerfielder options but will "keep looking and possibly find an even more experienced option." Josh scored 64 runs and stole 40 bases in AAA.

The Braves' seem to be depleting their solid bullpen this offseason. They rejected Octavio Dotel's option in the offseason, traded Villarreal, waved Bob Wickman during the regular season and are still trying to re-sign Ron Mahay. I'm starting to get a little nervous

Braves make first move with Glavine
The Braves have made their initial offer for starter Tom Glavine. Glavine and his agent Gregg Clifton plan to make a counteroffer "that we will give them by tonight," Clifton told the Associated Press. Financial details have not been released but Tom's return to Atlanta is looking good.

more garbage duty for you

The Penn State football team is like two players short of being able to have their own prison team after two players were charged with assault for their involvement in a campus fight on October 6th. Navorro Bowman and Chris Baker are facing felony aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct, summary harassment and stalking charges, which their lawyers claim they are innocent of.
"We maintained he was not involved in the fight," Baker's lawyer said while Bowman's retorted, "The charges and the documents clearly paint a picture of self-defense."

Yeah you guys might want to reach a consensus on that one. The players allegedly were involved in an off campus fight which resulted in a person's bloodied nose and lip. In addition to Baker and Bowman's charges, a third team member Knowledge Timmons was issued a summons for his disorderly conduct and defiant trespass charges which stemmed from a post fight incident. October 6th was not a good day for the Nittany Lions.

The football team issued a statement regarding the charges:
"In early October, several players had been demoted and/or lost playing time based upon our initial understanding of the facts regarding the incident. Based upon today's information, Chris Baker, Navorro Bowman and Knowledge Timmons will not travel with the team to East Lansing."

Although they didn't feel the same way when Baker was charged in a separate incident in April which put him on probation but did not bar him from playing in any games this season. Looks like these guys are going to be picking up some trash around the stadium. Watch out Chris, Navorro and Knowledge, because the popo are on your tail!

Fans buy a football Club

An English Football Club will be forced to listen to public opinion after an internet-based group of fans pooled their money together to buy Ebbsfleet United of Kent. The fans, MyFootballClub, agreed to buy 51% of the team at more than $1.5 million and will act as a united front in making decisions on the club.

"This is a brand new concept, basically a massive trust. They will help run it; they will feel part of it," Roland Edwards, a directorand club secretary of Ebbsfleet said.

MyFootballClub, which has over 20,000 members and charges an annual fee of $72 per person, will hold internet polls to conduct day-to-day business. The team will even take suggestions in the form of emails from concerned stake holders. But their voices will limited, former manager and current head coach Liam Daish along with the players are the only people who will make decision during the game.

"There will be a lot of dialogue and the head coach will respond leading up to the games."

Fans will be able to keep tabs on their team around the world as games will be broadcast on the internet and then those fans will probably email the team the next day to complain about the coaching or player performance.

The plan, hatched by Will Brooks who created the website in April, will either be the greatest thing or one of the worst decisions ever made. I listen to enough talk radio to know a lot of people think they know how to run a professional team but would probably just run them into the ground.

Ebbsfleet is in the fifth tier of English Soccer called the Football Conference.

While you were getting indicted, Barry Bonds...

NASCAR Update:
The final weekend is upon us and Jimmie Johnson, nursing a 86 point lead, will look to win his second straight Cup championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway. While Johnson is working on number 2, Greg Biffle will be trying for his fourth straight Homestead win. It will also be the end of many relationships like Dale Earnhardt, Jr and DEI, J.J. Yeley and Joe Gibbs Racing, Kyle Busch and Hendrick Motorsports, Ricky Rudd and nascar, as well as Casey Mears' time in the #25, the Chevy Monte Carlo in Nascar and the 2007 season. Catch all the aciton for the Ford 400 on the banked 1.5 mile track on ABC at 3 PM/est.

Vote for the 6th annual Fans Awards here.

With Robbie Reiser leaving his post as crew chief for the #17 Ford driven by Matt Kenseth, team engineer Chip Bolin looks to be the leading candidate to replace him.

Nascar is looking to "tweak" the qualifying process with two separate qualifying sessions.

People of Florida, show your love of Nascar with a Nascar vanity lisense plate! (via jayski)

Football Update:
Ricky Williams, recently reinstated by the League, will rejoin the Miami Dolphins. Because even if they lose, Ricky knows how to make the team feel like they won, or at least forget that they still haven't won a game.

More QB changes, Trent Dilfer will start for the 49ers in place of the ailing yet very cute Alex Smith.

In just like Chris Simms news, Pittsburgh Steelers free safety Ryan Clark had his spleen removed on Thursday and will be out for the remainder of the season.

Adrian Peterson donated his record breaking game worn Jersey to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Luckily, he won't be needing it since he'll be on the bench with a knee injury this weekend.

The Giants will be heading to Detroit to take on the suprisingly good Lions on Sunday. The G-Men are coming off a 31-20 loss to the Cowboys and hope to get revenge on the baby cats. Pro Bowl middle linebacker Antonio Pierce is committed to play on Sunday even though he is still suffering from headaches after getting a concussion during the Cowboys game. Tune into Fox at 1 PM/est to cheer them on. Let's go Big Blue!

Popo in my crib News:
Barry Bonds has been indicted on perjury and obstruciton of justice on Thursday for allegedly lying under oath to a federal grand jury. Bonds had told the grand jury he did not knowingly take steriods, but with the indictment the government must have evidence that reverses that thought. The new Homerun King is facing up to 30 years in jail, hopefully at Martha Stewart's alma mater Camp Cupcake. Watch out Barry, because the popo are on your tail!

A judge accepted Adam "Pacman" Jones plea deal on Thursday which reduced his felony charge to a gross misdemeanor. Pacman will get probation after he blabs on the witness stand for his involvement in a Las Vegas strip club shooting. Watch out Pacman, because the popo are on your tail!

UPDATE: Former Indy driver David D. "Salt" Walther was sentenced to three years after leading the popo on a 100 MPH chase. The 59 year old was convicted of failing to comply with an order or signal of a popo officer. The sentence is on top of his August conviciton of nonsupport of dependents and violating terms of an earlier sentence for which he got two years and two months. Watch out Salt, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: Congratulations to Jake Peavy on winning the 2007 NL Cy Young Award...Oregon became the fifth #2 team to lose this season after falling to Arizona 34-24. Heisman hopeful Dennis Dixon injured his knee in the loss...Derek Jeter maybe competing with Barry Bonds in having the worst week ever after NY state decided to go after their lost tax revenue. At least he still has the ladies to dry his tears...In other Yankees news, Jeet's former BFF Alex Rodriguez will reportedly be staying in New York for the next 10 years after agreeing to a $275 million deal. Way to stay strong Hank!...Sad news, the youngest player in MLB history Joe Nuxhall has died. He was 79 years old...According to commissioner Bud Selig, MLB is in good shape...It's going to cost you about 9% more to go see a Red Sox game next year...Willie Randolph may be praising Paul Lo Duca, but the Mets will have a new face behind the plate come next year, Yorvit Torreabla...Hey Kentucky, UCONN had no problem taking out Gardner-Webb 78-66 on Thursday.
