Friday Night Lights Friday

So back in August we did the whole if this TV character was real who would they be with the cast of My Boys. So we’re going it again, but this time it’s for Friday Night Lights.

Eric Taylor – Billy Donovan
Coach Taylor spent the first part of this season as a quarterback’s coach at TMU after leaving the Dillon Panthers following their championship winning season at the end of season 1. He thought it would be great for his family, giving them more money and putting him on the path to maybe becoming a college head coach. Turns out the job just put more stress on Tami with their new baby Gracie and made Julie a little rebellious. So he headed by to Dillon to take the head coaching job again with one little caveat, he can’t coach a College team for two years. Billy Donavan left the University of Florida after winning his second national title for the greener pastures of the Orlando Magic for like five days until he decided that he should stay with the Gators for family reasons. His little stunt pushed his NBA coaching days back for another five years.

Jason Street – Ryan Leaf
Jason Street was the star quarterback for the Dillon Panthers. He had his hot cheerleader girlfriend in Lyla and offers from big time schools like Notre Dame. He was on his way out of small town Texas until he bowed his head making a tackle and broke his spine. With the help of Coach Taylor, Street discovered he was still a viable member of society serving as a quarterback coach for Matt Saracen. Following a fight with the new head coach, Street is somewhere in Mexico looking for a miracle drug to help him walk again. On the other side, Ryan Leaf was drafted #2 behind Peyton Manning in the 1998 draft and was thought to be a can’t lose on the field. It wasn’t a horrific injury that sidelined Leaf, more like mental lapses, hubris and maybe a lack of talent. But after a poor NFL experience, Leaf is back on the sidelines as a coach for West Texas A&M University.

Matt Saracen – Tom Brady
Matt figured he was destined to be Jason Street’s backup and was fine with that. But on a fateful night in the pilot episode when Street got injured, Matt’s world changed and he was forced to win the big game for the Panthers. He had some ups and downs; his dad is stationed in Iraq, his grandmother is a little loopy and his first high school sweetheart dumped him for the Swede. But a State Championship ring sure does give you something to smile about. Tom Brady was drafted the 199th pick of the 2000 draft and spent his early NFL career as a back up quarterback to Drew Bledsoe. Everything changed when Bledsoe was forced from a game with internal bleeding and Brady was able to begin his reign as the Pats starting QB. Everything hasn’t always been peachy in Tommy’s personal life. He had a very public split with long time girlfriend Bridget Moynahan. Their union resulted in the birth of John Edward Thomas Moynahan in the summer of 2007. Brady was able to rebound, with girlfriend Gisele Bundchen and those 3 Super Bowl rings.

Tim Riggins – Tyrone Hanson
Riggins is better known for his all night partying and overnights with various rally girls, Lyla, Tyra and that lady next door than for his hard nose style on the football field. So it wouldn’t surprise me if in an upcoming episode, Riggins’ storyline mirrored that of Tyrone Hanson, the Nevada football player who was kicked off the team after getting beaten up and having his wallet stolen at a Reno, NV party. Riggins has already been kicked off the team once this season. And he also is known to go to practice hung over…so you do the math.

Brian “Smash” Williams – Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson
Smash Williams is a talented running back and he’s not afraid to tell you that. While he did have some reality checks last season, the whole steroids incident and his bipolar girlfriend Waverly, Smash is in rare form so far this season and it’s tearing the team a part. Chad Johnson is an incredibly talented wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals who is probably better known for his touchdown celebrations and his self anointed nickname, Ocho Cinco. His antics were fine when the Bengals were winning, but with their 2-5 record thus far, it seems he may have gone a little too far for the Bengals taste as trade rumors have begun to heat up.

Lyla Garrity – Kollette Klassen
Lyla has grown from being just that Friday night cheerleader to a Christian youth member who has tried to convert Tim Riggins and a group of inmates this season. But we first noticed her in the pilot as the bubbly girlfriend of star quarterback Jason Street and the way things are going this season she may be better known as former-Panther Tim Riggins new flame. Google Kollette Klassen and you’ll instantly discover she’s the wife of former Denver Broncos/handball enthusiast Jake Plumber. The couple met while he was dodging large lineman and she was cheering on the sidelines.

Julie Taylor – Tracy Phillips
Julie Taylor is the high school aged teen daughter of Dillon Panthers football coach Eric Taylor. Her stance on not dating football players flew by the wayside after meeting back up QB Matt Saracen who she then dumped for the Swede. Tracy Phillips is the daughter of Dallas Cowboys Coach Wade Phillips. She apparently has a dance group called Blackout in LA and her father recently told reporters that Britney Spears not only stole their name for her new album but also their dance moves. After watching Julie’s dance troop during an episode in season 1, Britney could probably teach them some better stuff.
