Drizzle

Nascar Update:
When 7 time Cup champion Richard Petty speaks we all tend to listen. On Saturday he told reporters his opinions on the Hendrick championship battle, the past champions provisional and Brian France. I agreed on the first two points but definately not on the third. Click here to read his thoughts.

Ratings were down for the Cup race in Phoenix, marking another week where the telecast was unable to tackle the competition. Last week it wasn't even going up against Peyton and Tom and it still saw a 17.1% drop. (via jayski)

Ward Burton has been released of his duties in the #4 Chevy for Morgan-McClure Motorsports. He will be replaced by Todd Bodine.

John Andretti will run the full 2008 Nextel Cup Schedule for BAM racing in the 49 car.

Entry lists for Championship Weekend in Homestead for the Truck, Busch and Cup Series.

Football Update:
The Seattle Seahawks stomped the San Francisco 49ers 24-0 a day after the Niners head coach Mike Nolan lost his father.

The Vikings rookie running back Adrian Peterson will have to take at least a week off from breaking records after tearing his lateral collateral ligament on Sunday.

Rex Grossman's game winning performance on Sunday has once again made the quarterback position on the Chicago Bears a toss up.

Brodie Croyle is taking over for Damon Huard as the Kansas City Chiefs starting QB.

The Indianapolis Colts have brought in Simeon Rice in case defensive end Dwight Freeney is out. Rice was released by the Broncos last Friday.

Brett Favre took a hit on Sunday that made him feel a little buzzed but don't expect him to be knocked out of this weekends play.

Popo in my crib News:
Travis Henry has done a good job at convincing his Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan that he doesn't use marijuana but can he convince the league? Henry, who failed a drug test earlier in the season, has been able to pass a lie detector test and a separate blood test but is still facing a year long penalty. Henry had been suspended for four games in 2005 for violating the leagues drug test. In a separate case, Henry has sued the league to stop the suspension. And in another separate case, (because he apparently enjoys being in court) a parenity case revealed that Mr. Henry is a lot of people's baby daddy, like nine different women's baby daddy. Watch out Travis, because the popo are on your tail!

Pacman Jones is trying to tie up his loose ends before he comes back to the league, like that nasty little incident that took place at a Las Vegas strip club earlier this year. A new report claims Jones will take a plea deal that would give him probation instead of a possible year in jail. Jones will also testify in the triple shooting case. Watch out Pacman, because the popo are on your tail!

Braves Update:
I'm going to try to bunch up my Braves updates so some these links are from last week.
Click here to get a look at the Braves prospects.

The Braves are praying Mike Hampton plays this season...and doesn't get hurt. (Got to think about insurance!)

Click here for Chop Talk with Mark Teixeira.

The Braves may need to revist their bullpen if they can't bring back Octavio Dotel or Ron Mahay.

Andruw Jones won't be back with the Braves next year but that doesn't mean he is over like Atlanta.

News & Notes: Congratulations to Dustin Pedroia and Ryan Braun on winning the Rookie of the Year in their respective leagues. Braun topped Colorado's Troy Tulowitzki by only two points...Hip Hip Jorge is staying in the Bronx for another four years. Seriously, who is going to turn down $52.4 million except maybe Alex Rodriguez...The Detroit Tigers re-signed Todd Jones to a one year, $7 million deal...And they also acquired Jacque Jones from the Chicago Cubs for Omar Infante and some cash...At the stroke of midnight free agents were allowed to start taking with other teams. Let's see where Mariano Rivera, Mike Lowell, Aaron Rowand and Tom Glavine end up...People.com has named its sexiest fan alive and sadly it was not me. Although in the picture it kind of looks like Greg Brady...The New Jersey Nets will be without Vince Carter indefinately after he injured his ankle making a slam dunk. What's so wrong with the lay-up?...And then the Nets got stung by the Hornets, 84-82...To top it all off, their arena, the Izod Center was listed as one of the top five stadiums/arenas in need of retirement. Lay off New Jersey, ok?...The Jayhawks will be missing sophmore guard Sherron Collins for at least six weeks after undergoing surgery to repair his left foot...Kevin O'Neill said Lute Olson should return to coaching the Arizona men's basketball team soon...Mark Messier joined Ron Francis, Jim Gregory, Scott Stevens and Al MacInnis in the 2007 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee class.
