Football Update:
The 49ers won a wild one in overtime on Sunday, 37-31. The niners snapped an 8 game slide after recovering a fumble by the Cardinals QB Kurt Warner in the end zone.
The Chicago Bears lost running back Cedric Benson with an injured ankle during the second quarter of their 37-34 win in overtime against the Denver Broncos. Both teams are now 5-6.
The St. Louis Rams could almost taste their second victory of the year, but instead they had to settle for an all too fimiliar outcome, a loss, a 24-19 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. And their QB Mark Bulger left the game with a concussion.
The Pats narrowly escaped the Eagles claws in their 31-28 win, but they did lose starting linebacker Rosevelt Colvin and backup cornerback Randall Gay.
The Tampa Bay Bucs forced 6 turnovers in their 19-13 win over the Redskins.
Baseball News:
Contract roundup: Torii Hunter signed with the LA Angels of Anaheim for 5 years, $90 million...The Yankees and Alex Rodriguez have a $30 million marketing contract in addition to the 10 year, $275 million deal...Closer Francisco Cordero is on the move, he signed a four year, $46 million deal with the Cincinnati Reds...Reliever Scott Linebrink is close to signing with the Chicago White Sox for $19 million over four years...A few days after trading Johnny Estrada to the Mets, the Brewers have signed Jason Kendall to a one year deal pending a physical.
A box filled with "thousands of rare documents, letters and memos" that account the 1919 Black Sox incident are set to hit the auction block on Monday.
Sad news, Joe Kennedy passed away on Friday. He was only 28. Results from the free agent pitcher's autopsy is expected to be ready in 6-8 weeks.
Indians pitcher Juan Lara was injured in a serious car accident in the Dominican Republic. Two people died when a motorcycle plowed into Lara's stopped car. Lara may be transfered to an US hospital for surgery.
Braves Update:
Charlie Morton, Jairo Cuevas and Zach Schrieber were added to the Braves 40 man roster to protect them from the rule 5 draft. Utility man Pete Orr was removed from the list.
News & Notes: After both LSU and Kansas went down over the weekend, the BSC's new 1-2 are Missouri and West Virginia...Florida QB Tim Tebow broke his hand but is expected to play in which ever bowl game the Gators are in...While their football team couldn't make it passed Missouri, Kansas' basketball team survived a 76-72 OT victory over Arizona...Duke cruised to their sixth victory of the season, a 72-43 win over Eastern Kentucky...Kobe Bryant may have JoJo's hit "Too Little, Too Late" running through his head this morning after the Lakers 100-102 loss to the New Jersey Nets, who are currently on a three game hot streak...When your the worst team in the NHL you've got to know that your job isn't exactly secure. For the Washington Capitals head coach Glen Hanlon time has run out after being fired on Thursday. Hanlon will be replaced by Bruce Boudreau for the interim...He may not have been named the Nextel Cup Rookie of theYear, but David Ragan did collect the Busch Series Award.
