what's old is new again

They say what’s old is new again. I mean have you seen the amount of spandex repopulating the teens of this country? And the fact that stir-ups are coming back into fashion only gives me nightmares of my times in elementary school. But the same is true in sports. Check out these guys that are giving us déjà vu all over again.

The Houston Rockets the New Colorado Rockies
Remember September when the Rockies began a streak that pushed them all the way from Wild Card hopefuls to owners of the National League pennant before an unrequested vacation cooled them off and allowed the Boston Red Sox to sweep them in the World Series. But let’s not rain on Houston’s parade. After winning 13 in a row the Rockets got an unexpected surprise, the loss of their all-star center Yao Ming. But the team rallied and continued their streak which following Wednesday’s win over the Hawks is currently at 20 games. Will this team ever cool off?

Joe Gibbs Racing the New Hendrick Motorsports
Last season Hendrick Motorsports owned Nascar going one-two in the points standings with Jimmie Johnson repeating as Champion, the first time that had happened since teammate Jeff Gordon did it in 1997 and 1998. The team was rounded out by a hot headed youngster named Kyle Busch who when he was not making waves for his poor behavior was getting noticed for putting his butt into victory lane. Fast forward a couple of months and it seems like Joe Gibbs Racing is sitting pretty with one driver leading the points standings, Kyle Busch and another Tony Stewart in eighth. So maybe they aren’t one-two, but they came pretty close to doing that at Daytona and ever since then, Mr. Busch has been knocking at the door of victory circle until Atlanta when the door finally opened. It is any coincidence that JGR and Hendrick hold one big piece of their success in common?

Kyle Lohse the New Alex Rodriguez or maybe Andruw Jones
Kyle Lohse finally signed a contract on Thursday after spending much of the off-season in limbo. It was reported that Lohse had been offered a three year, $30 million deal by the Phillies but his agent, Scott Boras advised his client to hold off expecting a bigger pay day by another team. Well it turns out teams were not looking to overpay for a marginal pitcher and instead, Lohse was forced to sign a one year, $4.25 million deal with the absolutely desperate Cardinals. But Boras has been making a lot of poor decisions on behalf of his clients, like the time he told Alex Rodriguez to opt out of his contract with the Yankees during the World Series thinking that greener pastures lay ahead for arguably the best player in baseball. Well those greener pastures were actually that weird yellow color grass turns when it’s burnt and Arod had to crawl right back to the Yankees to get them to re-sign him. And then there’s Andruw Jones who was expecting a bigger payday than the one he got with the Braves. But a poor season and some more misguidance by Boras and Jones punched himself a one way ticket to the Dodgers where instead of getting that $200 million payday Boras was talking about, Jones had to settle for a two year, $36.2 million deal. So the real question is who is the new agent everyone needs to jump ship to in order to get away from the poison that is Scott Boras? And can someone give his card to Mark Teixeira before he screws himself and the Braves?
