Baseball Update:
Even though the baseball season got underway last week in Japan, the official start of baseball in America kicked off on Sunday night, when the Ryan Zimmerman christened the new Nationals Park with a walk off homerun to give the Nats a 3-2 victory over the Braves.

Over one hundred thousand people poured into Los Angeles Coliseum to watch an exhibition game between the Dodgers and Red Sox as a part of the celebration of 50 years of Dodgers baseball in LA or as my family calls 50 years of hell. Yeah, we're still trying to get over the fact that the Dodgers have left Brooklyn.

The Dodgers also placed Nomar Garciaparra, Andy LaRoche and Jason Schmidt on the 15 day DL. Los Angeles is expected to play Tony Abreu at third.

The Padres placed Jim Edmonds on the 15 day DL with a calf injury.

The Mets have named Mike Pelfrey their fifth starter while his chief rival Orlando Hernandez was placed on the 15 day DL.

While the Yankees enter Yankee Stadium for their final Opening Day on Monday, Andy Pettitte will have to watch from the bench after the Yankees put him on the 15 day DL. Pettitte should be activated in time to make his first start of the season on April 5th.

The Twins have sent pitcher Francisco Liriano to the minors. Liriano missed all of the 2007 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

The Rockies optioned outfielder Cory Sullivan to triple-A Colorado Springs giving the fifth outfielder spot to Scott Podsednik.

The Orioles have released Jay Gibbons but will stay pay him $11.9 million they owe on his contract. Nice servance.

Meanwhile the Astros have waved pitcher Woody Williams but will pay him the $6.5 million they owe him.

You'll have to bring extra cash to the ballpark with ticket prices increasing an average of 10.9%.

BALCO founder Victor Conte is looking to write a tell all book. You should save your energy for the countless depositions you'll be involved in. On the other hand, you could just hand prosecutors your book to make the whole process easier.

Our get well wishes go out to Diamondbacks pitcher Doug Davis who has announced he is battling thyroid cancer.

Nascar News:
With his 8th place finish, Jamie McMurray has avoided the danger zone for next week's race in Texas comfortably seated in 30th in points.

David Reutimann says he's getting used to his new ride, the #44 car.

The plot thickens in the missing swaybar case. Roush Fenway is claiming malicious intent while Michael Waltrip Racing is calling it an innocent mistake. You be the judge, which side do you believe?

Popo in my crib News:
Five time all-star catcher Benito Santiago has some explaining to do after it was revealed that he purchased a 2003 Mercedes-Benz CL55 from known drug dealer Jacques Lavigne. Lavigne recently plead guilty to drug trafficing chargers. During the case, Jacques revealed that he had given an unidentified person 80 grand to buy a car and title it in their name in Florida. I wonder if on the check in the memo section it said "bought something." So far the former major leaguer has not been charged. But watch out Benito, because the popo are on your tail!

Wake Forest signee and top basketball recruit Al-Farouq Aminu spent the weekend in the Gwinnett County jail after his arrest on felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor criminal trespassing charges. Allegedly, the 17 year old recruit and his two Norcross teammates Prince Kent and Quintin Square used a BB gun to shoot Rebeccas Baltich in the stomach. Aminu turned himself into police and was released on $3,500 bond. Watch out Al-Farouq, because the popo are on your tail!
