The teary eyed edition

Baseball Update:
It's probably best to say Thursdays game between the Reds and Yankees was anything but a pitchers duel with the Reds coming out on top 12-8.

Jason Marquis tossed three shut out innings in the Cubs' 2-1 loss to the Oakland A's.

Yankees reliever Kyle Farnsworth is blaming his crappy season in the Bronx on former manager Joe Torre saying, "It's tough when you lose the confidence of your manager." Blame yourself first, learn from it and move on!

Jonathan Papelbon avoided the fate of many of his peers by agreeing to a one year, $775,000 contract with the Boston Red Sox. He was one of 18 players that agreed to a one year deal with the BoSox, locking up the entire 40 man roster for 2008.

Albert Pujols has hit the injury giant that has been sweeping through the national league. Pujols is suffering from a "high-grade tear" of the ligament in his elbow.

The Giants will be without pitcher Noah Lowry until at leas the end of April after deciding to undergo surgery to repair his injured left throwing wrist.

Speaking of San Francisco, they are on the hunt to find a replacement for injured shortstop Omar Vizquel. The Giants were hoping to sub in Kevin Frandsen, but his three errors and plate troubles have the Giants looking at non-roster invitee Brian Bocock.

On his first day back from Mexico, Mariner Adrian Beltre injured his thumb fielding a hard grounder.

Dodgers second baseman Jeff Kent said his pulled hamstring is not a major injury but it will keep him from playing for about a week.

Reading this article makes you realize once again how human athletes are. All you can hope for is that Scott Spezio will be able to turn his life around with the help of his friends and family.

Mmm...all you can eat seats.

Nascar Update:
High speeds. Check. Side by side racing. Check. Exciting finishes. Check. Atlanta Motor Speedway always seems to offer up some of the best racing of the season with its high speeds (one of the fastest tracks on the circuit) and seemingly endless history of close finishes. So its no surprise that this track ranks as one of my favorites. Don't believe me, tune in on Sunday to the Kobalt Tools 500 on Fox. Coverage starts at 1:30 PM/est.

Lee White, GM for Toyota's Sprint Cup Series is not believing Carl Edwards and his #99 team saying that they knowingly caused the lid to come loose on its oil tank in Las Vegas. Them fightin' words.

Even though his teammate was the latest "cheating winner," Greg Biffle says that any person who wins a race but is then found to have violated one of Nascar's many rules should have their victory taken away. For once Greg, I totally agree.

Nascar Vice Chairman Jim France made the Forbes Billionaire list. He came in at No. 843 with his estimated $1.4 billion. Other Nascar names to make the list include Speedway Motorsports Inc. Chairman Bruton Smith ($1.2 billion, No. 962), Red Bull Racing owner Dietrich Mateschiltz ($4 Billion, No. 260), Penske Racing owner Roger Penske ($2.7 billion, No. 428) and Paul Menard's Dad John Menard ($7.3 billion, No. 127).

Watch out Casey Mears, Martin Truex, Jr. has agreed to drive the #5 JR Motorsports Chevy in the Nationwide Series beginning at Bristol. Could a move to Hendrick be next for Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s former teammate?

Popo in my crib News:
PGA player Tripp Isenhour was charged with killing a hawk on purpose with a golf shot. During filming of the TV show "Shoot Like A Pro" Isenhour was seen killing the bird, although he claims it was only to scare it away, apparently the grand jury wasn't buying it. If convicted he faces a maximum penalty of 14 months in jail and a $1,500 fine. Watch out Tripp, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: Brett Favre made it official on Thursday holding a news conference to announce his retirement...Last season NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell crack down on "problem players." This year's theme a crack down on cheating...Terrell Suggs has filed a grievance aginst the Baltimore Ravens as to whether he should be classified as a defensive end or linebacker. If he is named a defesnive end he would be able to recieve an additional $814,000...It's up to 17 straight for the Rockets are they dismantled the Mavs 113-98...The Spurs are hot on their tails winning the team's 11th in a row following their 108-97 defeat of the Pacers...Providence handled UCONN 85-76...St. Joseph's edged out #8 Xavier 71-66...UCLA won their third consecutive PAC 10 regular season title following a questionable call in the waning seconds of their 77-67 OT win over Stanford.

Check this out: It's an oldie but a goodie. Click here to see Nascar driver Carl Edwards call other people named Carl Edwards.

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
