Time to cut the fat

Baseball Update:
Kyle Loshe has finally found a team after signing a one year contract with the St. Louis Cardinals for $4.25 million. The funny thing is it was reported that the Phillies had offered him upwards of 3 years, $30 million. And also interesting to note is that Scott Boras is his agent. Is Scotty losing his touch?

In other Cardinals news, Albert Pujols is insisting he does not need surgery for his elbow.

And finally, the Cardinals team president Mark Lamping is leaving the team to oversee the construction of the new New York Giants and Jets stadium in the Meadowlands. He'll be replaced by charimen Bill DeWitt, Jr.'s son Bill DeWitt, III.

The Yankees are packing up and heading up to Virginia Tech on Tuesday to play in an exhibition game.

Most likely not on that roster is Billy Crystal who struck out in his only plate appearance with the Yanks on Thursday. Crystal, did however miss getting a hit by thatmuch, but we're pretty sure it still ranks as one of the greatest experience in the actors life.

Greg Maddux had to leave the Padres 3-2 loss to the Cubs early after taking a line drive off his thigh.

Maddux's team the Padres will open up an exhibition series with the Dodgers on Saturday begining baseball's Asian swing.

Ichiro Suzuki finally ended his spring training 0-for-21 slump with a single in the Mariners 3-3 tie with the Giants.

Matt Cain is doing quite the publicity. Click here for his interview with USA Today.

The Red Sox were busy on Thursday placing Curt Schilling on the 60 day DL and cutting catcher Doug Mirabelli.

Surprise Texas Rangers, one of your top draftees will be out for 50 games because he took some preformance-enhancing drugs. And bonus he's not for Latin America but instead, he's from Texas. Click here for the full story.

If you don't get tickets to the All-Star game at Yankee Stadium this season, don't worry, the game could be back in the Big Apple as early as 2013 with the Mets new stadium CitiField playing host.

Jameson Sutton, the current owner of Barry Bonds' 762 homerun ball is looking to auction it off. The ball could fetch up to $1 million.

Our well wishes go out to ESPN analyst and former player Rick Sutcliffe who announced he has colon cancer.

Nascar Update:
Short track racing takes center stage this weekend as the teams head to Bristol Motor Speedway. The tiny banked track can host side by side racing but also has a tendency to incite the multi-car wreck because there really isn't anywhere for drivers to go. The track will also host Dale Jarrett's final Cup race in his storied champion's career. To catch all of the action of the Food City 500, tune into FOX at 1:30 PM/est.

Martin Truex, Jr. is looking forward to partnering up with his old boss Dale Earnhardt, Jr. this weekend at Bristol. Truex will drive in the JR Motorsports chevy in the Sharpie Mini 300 Nationwide Series race on Satruday. Truex had won two Nationwide Series titles driving for Earnhardt's Chance 2 Motorsports team.

Darlington's new repavement has not only gained the praise of drivers like Jeff Gordon who were able to ride on the track for the first time during this week's tire test, but it has also upped speeds by around 18 mph.

You can't win them all, and you can't finish every single race in the top 10, but this has been a very slow start for the two time defending champion Jimmie Johnson.

Popo in my crib News:
It was not all smiles in Morgantown after WVU beat UCONN at the Big East tournament as UWV running back Noel Devine, defensive back Earl Smith, cornerback Brantwon Bowser and running back/receiver Jockee Sanders all plead no contest to misdemeanor battery charges on Thursday. The charges stemmed from a February 16 maylay outside of Club Z in Morgantown. This comes on the heels of the team dismissing three other players charged with felony possession of marijuana with the intent to sell. Watch out Noel, Earl, Brantwon and Jockee, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: As I walked into Penn Station yesterday, I was bombarded by Big East fans leaving MSG after the Georgetown game so it's only far that I start this section off with the scores of the quarter-final round of the Big East Tournament. West Virgnia as my brother (UCONN alumnus) said embarassed UCONN 78-72...For my friend Niki (G-Town alumnus), Georgetown rocked Villanova 82-63...Pitt overwhelmed Louisville 76-69...And Margquette stunned Notre Dame 89-79...Two time defending champs the Florida Gators will probably not be defending their title after falling to Alabama 80-69...Oh and their coach Billy Donovan thinks the teams screwed for at least another year...Good news for the Blazers, their number 1 overall pick, Greg Oden practiced for the first time since having knee surgery...Of course the bad news for the team is that the Blazers lost to the Kings 96-85...With the Red Wings 5-3 victory over the Stars, Detroit has sealed a playoff birth...The Senators make it 40 wins on the season with their 3-0 win over the Canadiens. They also captured the Northeast lead with the win...The 49ers have released back up QB Trent Dilfer...The Lions cut running back Kevin Jones and defensive end Kalimba Edwards...Congrats to Bode Miller on picking up his second World Cup Title.

Check this out: The CW is putting a spin-off of the popular 1990s teen drama "90210" on the fast track. No news if Donna Martin will graduate in this version. Click here for all the details.

It's been fun blogging with you,
