Another Track Bites the Dust

So apparently I am very behind on this story only discovering it while reading the New York Times on Monday, but famed New Jersey track Wall Township Speedway (nee Wall Stadium) has closed its doors after over 50 years of business. While it is not currently known the exact reason for the closure, a press release by part owner Timothy F. Shinn confirmed fears of racers and fans alike stating:

"It is with an extremely heavy heart that I must, at this time, formally announce the closing of our beloved Wall Township Speedway, formerly known to the vast majority of us as Wall Stadium."
The Track had noticed a recent decline in attendance sparking rumors of its demise.

The track follows suit in a growing and disconcerting trend of closing down speedways across the country. Usually the speedways are turned into large developments but plans for the roughly 48 acre property have not been released. Wall Township Mayor John Devlin is hoping the land will remain an office and research zone and not be re-zoned for housing. Any moron who would put up a major housing development must not be reading the news.

Wall Stadium has played host to many of driver’s career including current Nascar Star Martin Truex, Jr. and Gillett Evernham Motorsports owner Ray Evernham.
