UAW-Dodge 400

Winner: Carl Edwards

Recap: Tires proved oh so important in Sunday's race, just ask Tony Stewart, Robby Gordon and Kurt Busch. All three cars violently hit the wall after their right front tires exploded. Both Stewart and Busch were seen gingerly exciting their cars. Then there was Carl Edwards who had a tire hit a non-network camera guy and roll into pit road. The usual punishment for such an incident would have sent him to back of the longest line, killing his chances at the win so late in the race. But Nascar ruled that the cameraman interferred with Edward's teams ability to catch the tire and therefore no penalty, leading Roush Fenway to win yet another race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and giving Edwards back to back wins in this short season.

Race Results Points Standings

Surprises: Roush had a monster day with Edwards (1), Greg Biffle (3) and David Ragan (6) finishing within the top ten. Matt Kenseth, who was a major factor all day, ended up 20th after tangling with Jeff Gordon in the closing laps. Shout outs also have to go out to Richard Childress Racing which saw Jeff Burton and Kevin Harvick finish inside the top ten and to Kasey Kahne who was battling the flu all weekend but still managed to finish 7th.

Disappointments: They keep saying at some point Hendrick Motorsports will turn it around, but in the first three races of the season, Hendrick has seemed like a mighty disappointment. At Las Vegas, only Dale Earnhardt, Jr. managed to finish in the top 10, with Casey Mears ending up 13th at the checkers. Jeff Gordon, who was solidly in the top 10 all day, exited late in race after crashing hard into the inside wall. And Jimmie Johnson who was going for four in a row at the Nevada track was never a factor during the race. Casey Mears was even involved in an accident with Brian Vickers, who was a former employee at Hendrick. I don't doubt Hendrick will be able to right itself, but when?
