It's only 8 AM and already I'm sweating

Baseball Update:
Sweeps weeks don't just occur in November, February and May, for the Mets, Braves and Twins it happened just this passed weekend as the Mets fell to the Padres, 8-6, the Braves lost to the Phillies, 6-3 and White Sox smashed the Twins 12-2. (Note: White Sox go for four game sweep on Monday. Well, if the ChiSox do get the sweep we can call this my Dionne Warwick psychic friends moment.)

The Braves were without Chipper Jones who will be sitting for at least a couple of days with a slight tear in his quad suffered during the seventh inning of Saturday's loss to the Phils.

More good news for the Padres, after sweeping the Mets this weekend, they could get back Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy next week.

The Yankees are looking to wrap up their series on Monday after taking out the Royals, 6-3. Joba Chamberlain went 4 1/3 inning giving up just 3 ER in the sweltering heat. The performance was not long enough to give him the decision, but it was a step in the right direction. Dan Giese did however pick up the win, the first of his career.

The Red Sox apparently have an endless line up talented young pitchers in their system after Justin Masterson picked up his third win of the season in the Red Sox 2-1 edging of the Mariners. J.D. Drew hit the go ahead run in the win.

The Cubs fought back to tie their four game series with the Dodgers thanks to a hot day at the plate for Mark DeRosa and solid performance on the mound by Jason Marquis in their 3-2 win over Los Angeles.

For a young team like the Rays, in-fighting is not a good sign. The team that has shown such promise standing only a game and a half out of first in the NL East in freaking June, maybe starting to show it's age after starting pitcher Matt Garza and catcher Dioner Navarro had to be separated in the dugout during their 6-3 loss to the Rangers. If there is any hope for these guys to make it to the playoffs, they have to get along.

Speaking of fights, the Rays and Red Sox were disciplined for Thursday's craziness with eight players receiving suspensions. In addition to missing some time Coco Crisp (7), Jon Lester (5) and Sean Casey (3) of the Red Sox and Matt Shields (7), Jonny Gomes (5), Edwin Jackson (5), Carl Crawford (4) and Akinori Iwamura (3) of the Rays were all fined.

At this point in the season, we were expecting the match-up between the Tigers and Indians to be a battle for first in the AL Central, instead it's almost a battle to not be worst with the Tigers beating the Tribe, 5-2.

The Tigers could be without pitcher Jeremy Bonderman for the rest of the season due to a blood clot. A similiar ailment sidelined Tigers pitcher Kenny Rogers for most of the 2007 season.

Ken Griffey is still stuck on homerun #599 but most of his team seemed to be stiffled by the Marlins who rolled passed the Reds, 9-2.

Write this down kids, June 8, 2008, the day Barry Zito got his second win of the season. Zito was just good enough on the mound and the offense was more than great at the plate giving the Giants the 6-3 win over the Nationals.

Mark Ellis' 2 out grand slam gave the A's a 7-3 victory over the Angels in 12.

Dayan Viciedo, considered one of Cuba's top prospects, has defected to the United States.

Nascar Update:
If you thought it was hot walking around this weekend, imagine driving a car for 500 miles with temperatures approaching 120 degrees, yeah, that's why everyone looked like they were going to pass out during their post-race interviews. (And was it just me or did Dale Junior look like he was going to throw up as they were talking to him?)

Let's just say Kyle Busch's run for three wins on three separate tracks over three days peaked in Texas when he finished 2nd in the Truck race and finished with a last place effort in Pocono.

Congrats to Ron Hornaday on winning at Texas and Brad Keselowski on winning his first ever Nationwide Series race this weekend at Nashville.

For DeLana Harvick and Lori Hamilton tragedy has been able to unit them in an unbreakable bond.

Congrats to 19 year old Yani Tseung who became the youngest woman to win a LPGA Championship thanks to a four hole sudden death round in the crazy Maryland heat.
