Stop texting me Pete

Baseball Update:
It was a good night for the city of Boston as one team collected a championship (more on that in the News&Notes section) and other team rolled on by the Phillies thanks to seven scoreless innings by Red Sox youngster Jon Lester and a two run bomb by Coco Crisp as the Sox blanked the Phils, 3-0. Lester improved to 3-0 with a 1.33 ERA in his last three starts.

Boston also got some news on three of their pitchers, placing Bartolo Colon on the DL with a stiff back but he'll be replaced by Dice-K Matsuzaka who will return to the rotation on Saturday. Curt Schilling will be heading back to Boston to be evaluated by team doctors.

Meanwhile, the rival New York Yankees got a blow-out of their own, shutting down the Padres 8-0. Jason Giambi had two homeruns in the win, while Pete Rose's text message buddy Alex Rodriguez added a solo shot of his own. I just happened to be at the game last night. You can click here for some of my pictures from the game.

The Yanks placed ace Chein-Ming Wang on the 15 day DL with his ankle injury although he'll be out for well longer than that.

The Dodgers are hoping that a stint on the DL will help out the struggling Brad Penny. He has been dealing with a sore shoulder for much of the season, possibly causing him to stumble so mightily. But with bad news, came some good news for LA, who beat the Reds, 3-1.

Milton Bradley was injured in the Rangers 7-5 victory over the Braves. Bradley injured his quad while running out a two-run single in the Rangers big four run third inning.

Jerry Manuel set a very different tone for the hot mess Mets, act like professionals. Too bad it didn't lead to a win after the Mets fell to the Angels, 6-1. Manuel reportedly talked to Jose Reyes in the clubhouse after the shortstop threw his helmet down in disgust over being taken out the game with what appeared to be a tight hamstring in the first inning, forcing Reyes to apologize to his teammates.

Meanwhile, former Manager Willie Randolph said he was stunned by his firing. Are you stunned in the cold and heartless way that it was done or that you were fired? Because anybody not living under a rock knew your days in Gotham were numbered.

There was no lack of offense for the White Sox who creamed the Pirates, 16-5. The ChiSox placed Paul Konerko on the 15 day DL. This marks his first time to the DL. Who knew 2008 would be the year of first trips to the disabled list?

Speaking of poudings, the Diamondbacks got one of their own falling to the A's, 15-1. Bradon Webb lasted just three and a third innings giving up seven earned in only his third loss of the season.

The Rockies had 17 hits in their 10-2 mashing of the Indians. Starter Greg Reynolds evenged his poor start against San Francisco with a solid six inning performance while Greg Baker added an inside the park homerun and Brad Hawpe got his homer the old fashioned way, hitting over the fence in the Rockies win.

The Tigers won their fifth straight with a 5-1 victory over the Giants. Marcus Thames has had a homerun in each of those five wins.

Evan Longoria added a homerun and game saving defensive move to his resume in the Rays 3-2 win over the Cubs.

Apparently Major Leauge Baseball was not kidding when it said it wanted to speed up the games. Astros manager Cecil Cooper and Twins manager Ron Gardenhire were both fined an undisclosed amount by the League for failing to comply with "pace of game regulations."

Nascar Update:
Nascar has admitted in improperly scored Mark Martin in front of Brian Vickers prior to a restart in the Lifelock 400 on Sunday. Vickers had openly chastised Nascar for moving Martin in front of him, claiming he had passed him two laps prior to the caution. Nascar admitting a mistake? Mark this date on your calendars as the day Nascar came down from its high horse only to jump right back on it two minutes later.

Scott Pruett will replace Reed Sorenson in the No. 41 Dodge and Max Papis will replace Scott Riggs in the #66 car for Haas CNC Racing at Infineon Raceway this weekend. Riggs will move into the #70 car.

Hendrick Motosports is the most valuable team in Nascar according to Forbes' annual rankings. Click here for the full list.

Caterpillar will be taking over sponsorship duties on the number #31 Chevy driven by Jeff Burton. Currenlty AT&T can be seen on Burton's hood.

U.S. Army could be leaving DEI at the end of this season. Currently seen on the #01 Chevy driven by both Mark Marin and Aric Almirola, the U.S. Army is looking into its options for 2009 and beyond.

The Celtics did it in convincing fashion destroying the Lakers, 131-92...Paul Pierce was named the MVP of the finals...The "Seattle" SuperSonics future remains in the balance as a trial continues in Seattle. Current owner Clay Bennett claimed he had hoped that a new arena could keep the Sonics in Seattle. Now Clay, remember what I always say don't screw with the government. You don't seem like the type that would do well in jail...The Bulls worked out Michael Beasley and have plans to work out Derrick Rose as the draft approaches...Terrell Owens has been excused from the Cowboys' mandatory mincamp...Ocho Cinco will be unaviableable for a bit if rumors of a possible ankle surgery are true...Congrats to Igor Larionov, Glenn Anderson, Ray Scapinello and Ed Chynoweth on being named to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Check this out: Kevin Garnett had quite the emotional reaction to winning the NBA championship. But so did some of his teammates. Click here for Paul Pierce and here for his coach Doc Rivers. And here for my favorite photo of the night.

It's been fun blogging with you,
