Injuries...injuries...and demotions

Baseball Update:
It took Tom Glavine 22 years to make his way to the DL for the first time and only a few months to land on there again after pitching three torturous innings before leaving after the third with a strained elbow. And as an added bonus for the Braves, they lost to the Cubs, 10-5. Chipper Jones did make a pinch hitting appearance but was replaced by pinch runner Josh Anderson.

John Smotlz had successful shoulder surgery on Tuesday. While his pitching future is not certain, Bobby Cox says he expects the 41 year old to still be an active member of the team for this season, which includes road trips!

The Cardinals powered passed the Reds, 7-2 but lost Albert Pujols in process. Pujols went down with a calf injury after making about four steps out of the box on his way to first base. He was diagnosised with a strained right calf.

Miguel Cabrera knocked in the go-ahead-run with a single in the fifth to give the Tigers the 6-4 win over the White Sox. Dontrelle Willis was sent down to single A Lakeland in hopes of getting him to regain his control. Good luck with that.

The Orioles designated Steve Trachsel for assignment. But that news didn't damper the O's spirits as they beat the Red Sox 10-6 in Fenway.

Someone who's control seemed to be on point was C.C. Sabathia who held the Twins scoreless in the Indians 1-0 win.

The Padres will have Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy back on Thursday just in time to take on the Dodgers. Unfortunately he wasn't pitching on Tuesday as San Diego fell to LA, 7-2.

John Maine left the game after the fifth inning with a 5-3 lead, four innings, a rain delay and bunch of Diamonbacks runs later and the Mets bullpen gave up another game, this time falling to Arizona 9-5.

After sweeping the Braves in Turner Field, the Phillies and Brett Myers had some troubles with the Marlins in Dolphin Stadium, falling 5-4. Why couldn't Myers pitch at Turner Field?

Speaking of the Marlins, season ticket holder (yeah I didn't know they exsisted either) "Joe" still doesn't know what he's going to do with Ken Griffey, Jr.'s #600 ball. I'd say give it back to Griffey, but then again my heart isn't entirely black.

Didn't think I'd be typing this, the Rockies haulted the suddenly hot Giants road winning streak with a 10-5 win. Colorado's line-up included Matt Holliday who was activated from the DL adding to their euphoria.

Roy Oswalt got his first win in almost a month with the Astros 6-1 trouncing of the Brewers.

Scott Boras' magic touch just might be fading after John Danks and his younger brother Jordan dropped the super agent in favor of Jeff Berry. Both players are in the White Sox organization.

Sad news, Eliot Asinof authur of Eight Men Out (which is a very good book by the way) passed away at the age of 88.

Nascar Update:
Mauricia Grant has launched a $225 million law suit against Nascar allegeding racial and sexual discrimination, sexual harassment and wrongful termination. So sexual harassment is bad, I get that, but it's not giving you $225 million worth of pain and suffering and there is no way a Nascar official will be making that much money over a 40 year career so you can't claim that in lost wages. $10 million fine, but $225 million, you must be off your rocker. No wonder you got fired.

Today's Petty Enterprises press conference will announce the team's re-signing of Bobby Labonte and its merger with a Massachusetts based private equity firm.

Rumor has it there's some trouble over at Michael Waltrip Racing. Let it be known that I love Mikey, but goodness that team has be terrible.

Bryant Frazier crew chief for the #4 Dodge driven by Stacy Compton in the Truck Series was fined $2,000 and place on probation until Dec. 31st for an infraction that occured during the June 6th race at Texas Motor Speedway.

An appeals board has upheld Nascar's penalties levied against Haas CNC.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. says he's fine with Hendrick Motor Sports "intense" testing schedule. Sure he's ok with it, but that's only if it results in a win.

Boston still leads the Series 2-1...Former ref Tim Donaghy is blabering up a storm saying the 2002 Lakers-Kings playoff series was altered by two of three refs who worked the game.
