Costly Victory

Baseball Update:
The Braves woes were on view for the entire country to see as they dropped their fifth straight with their 7-2 loss to the Cubs. But the Cubbies could have been the real losers after a second inning errant pitch by Jeff Bennett beamed Alfonso Soriano. Soriano left the game immediately and was taken to a local hospital where x-rays revealed a broken hand. He is expected to miss six weeks.

A three run homer by Grady Sizemore brought the Indians back into the game but in the end, the Twins were ready to finally get themselves a win, prevailing 8-5 over the Tribe. Cleveland catcher Victor Martinez exited the game early with an elbow injury.

Justin Verlander looked more like the Verlander of old in the Tigers 5-1 win over the White Sox. Can this mean they are finally turning things around? Who knows, but it would be nice to have a tighter race in the Central.

Late game heroics by Dan Uggla gave the Marlins a 6-2 win. Uggla hit a walk-off grand slam to break up a 2-2 tie. Cole Hamels had 13 strikeouts in the Phillies loss.

The Marlins weren't the only NL East team celebrating a walk-off, after entering the ninth inning with a 3-0 lead, the Mets closer Billy Wagner blew his second straight save opportunity allowing Mark Reynolds to hit a three run blast tying the game a three a piece. But Carlos Beltran saved the day for the Mets with a walk-off homer of his own in their 5-3 win.

Garrett Atkins slid into home, helping the Rockies to steal a 1-0 win from the Giants. Intially, Atkins was ruled out at the plate until the umpire noticed Bengie Molina was not holding the ball. Molina was charged with an error to add insult to injury.

One day after losing all-star first baseman Albert Pujols to a calf injury, the Cardinals busted out the bats for a 10-0 blanking of the Reds.

The Rangers pounded the Royals, 11-5, but a comment a Royals TV announcer Ryan Lefebvre made ruined the night for Texas' Milton Bradley. Bradley reportedly stormed the stairs to reach Lefebvre but was intercepted by his manager Ron Washington and GM Jon Daniels. This is not going to help the public's perception of his anger management problem.

Corey Hart drilled two homers in the Brewers 10-6 win over the Astros. The win snapped the Brew Crew's five game losing streak. Astros catcher Brad Ausmus and manager Cecil Cooper were both tossed in the seventh inning. (Click here for the video.)

Barolo Colon picked up his 150th career win in the Red Sox 6-3 defeat of the Orioles. Slugger David Ortiz was sworn in as an American citizen, making it quite a day for the team.

Justin Kimball has filed an injunction claiming ownership of Ken Griffey, Jr.'s #600 homerun ball. Only problem is, he doesn't actually have possession of it, instead some guy named "Joe" does and he's not too sure what he's going to do with it. But if it was up to Kimball, he'd return it to Griffey. Although if you give it back to Griffey, how are you going to pay for your lawyer?

The Yankees are hoping to fleece New Yorkers for even more money to pay for their stadium. Because if the astronomical ticket prices aren't enough for next season's fans they need to screw over everyone else to pay for their over $1.3 billion stadium. Maybe if you stopped paying $20 million for over the hill players, you could afford the new building.

Nascar Update:
A heels of a $225 million lawsuit, Nascar Chairman and CEO Brian France said Maurcia Grant did not follow clear cut company policy to resolve any issues she may have been facing. There was no sign that she ever filed a complaint against her co-workers making it nearly impossible for Nascar to alleviate the problem. And I still think $225 million is way too much. If I were a judge I dismiss the case on lunacy.

Juan Pablo Montoya may have voiced his displeasure with the firing of Jimmy Elledge but he says he's behind boss Chip Ganassi.

Nascar team owner Jack Roush will fly a WWII era P-51 Mustang Fighter during the pre-race at Michigan this weekend.
