Hockeytown brings home another Stanley Cup

Baseball Update:
Brett Meyers completed almost seven innings without giving up a hit until Joey Votto ruined the night breaking up Meyer's no-no and shut out with his RBI double in the Reds 2-0 shut out win over the Phillies. Edinson Volquez continued to frustrate hitters going seven innings and striking out eight. He has not given up more than two runs in any start this season.

The Red Sox showed the Rays who's boss with their 5-1 win. The victory put them back into first place in the NL East. And it looks like Curt Schilling could be back on the mend. The right hander threw 25 pitches off a bullpen mound at Fenway. Schilling has been on the DL since spring training with right shoulder weakness.

The Rays sent Carlos Pena to the DL with a broken left index finger. Come on, how important is an index finger?

Rain peppered Yankee Stadium on Wednesday. But the tepped weather was not enough to cool off the Yankees in their 5-1 win over the Blue Jays. Derek Jeter surpassed Mickey Mantle for third on the Yankees all-time hits list in the win. (For my pictures from the game click here.)

In other good news for the Bombers, they activated catcher Jorge Posada from the DL on Wednesday. Posada is scheduled to catch for Chien-Ming Wang on Thursday.

What a difference a month makes. In April, the D-backs were practically unbeatable and on Wednesday they got torched by the Brewers, 10-1. The Brewers seem to be on quite a roll as of late.

Ryan Garko drove in six in the Indians 15-9 romp of the Texas Rangers. Looks like classic pitchers duel to me.

News flash: The Cubs have lost a game. After winning nine straight, the Cubs fell to the Padres, 2-1.

Paul Konerko broke up a 4-4 tie in the 15th inning with a two run blast in the White Sox 6-4 victory over the Royals. The Sox also picked up pitcher Esteban Loaiza who had been released by the Dodgers. Loaiza had pitched for the White Sox five years ago.

Also apparently it's rain down on Ozzie Guillen week. Ok, it's not like he didn't bring this on himself, but even ChiSox hitting coach Greg Walker isn't too happy with the manager.

It was a double whammy for the Braves after finding out that John Smoltz will undergo season ending shoulder surgery on Wednesday and then promptly falling to the Marlins, 6-4. The Fish rallied to score four runs in the ninth in the come from behind victory.

Mariners ownership ripped their struggling team prior to Wednesday's game. So it any surprise that the team then fell to the Angels, 5-4? Sometimes beratting your coaching staff does not encourage winning. Also it sometimes leads to tirades like this one.

Seems like the Mets hit rock bottom and have finally started to get something going. Could this be because Jose Reyes is starting to play like well Jose Reyes? The leadoff man hit a homerun, a double and a single in the Mets 5-3 win over the Giants.

It took two months for Joe Mauer to finally knock one out of the park and just two days to hit his second in the Twins 7-5 win over the Orioles. Umpire crew chief Jerry Crawford was struck by a red ball thrown by some moron fan at the close of the game. This comes 10 days after Crawford was hit by Carlos Lee's bat.

Stephens County High School was fined $1,000 by the Georgia High School Association after catcher Matt Hill ducked and made no apparent attempts to catch a Cody Martin pitch. The ball struck and injured the homeplate umpire. Hill and Martin claim to have had made no prior plans to injure the ump but instead claim it was a signal mix-up. Uh-huh, yeah right.

Today is the first year player draft. Who's excited?

Nascar Update:
Tony Stewart lead almost every lap at his own track to win the Prelude to the Dream. Conspiracy theorists insert your own remarks here. The real winner was Victory Junction which was handed a $1 million check. Click here for the results.

He's usually an after thought in the Hendrick stable, but Casey Mear's performance this season is not doing him any favors.

Popo in my crib News:
Washington Wizards guard Andray Blatche had another run in with the popo on Wednesday. This time he was charge with reckless driving and operating a vehicle iwth a suspended license after being clocked going 86 in 70 MPH zone in Virginia. This isn't the first time Blatche has been charged, last summer Andray was charged with another man for trying to solicit sex from an undercover popo. He was also wanted for failure to appear in court for driving without a license. Watch out Andray, because the popo are on your tail!

Former Houston Texan Steve Foley has been charged with attack by a dog after a March 26th incident in which his neighbor Twanan Schulz was injured and her puppy Schinckers was kiled. Schulz was walking to the corner to pick up her daughter when Foley's two pit bulls attacked her causing bodily harm to face and arms. If convicted Foley could spend up to ten years in jail. Watch out Steve, because the popo are on your tail!

News&Notes: Congratulations to the Detroit Red Wings on winning the Stanley Cup Final. They were able to beat the Penguins 3-2 with a little help from Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury who kicked in the winning goal with his rear...Henrik Zetterberg was awarded the Con Smythe Trophy...PS if I was celebrating the win this is probably where I would have been doing it...With the hockey season officially over (boo!) the NBA will get their finals underway on Thursday. The match-up between the Lakers and Celtics is a dream for the league, but will it live up to the hype? Tune into ABC at 8 PM/est to find out...A Gonzaga recruit is having trouble receiving a visa to study in the US. Bol Kong, who is originally from Sudan but has been living in Canada since he was seven, has been denied three times...OJ Mayo may have thought ESPN was a bad group to have investigating you, but the goverment is way worse. Reportedly the FBI, IRS and U.S. Attorney's office have launched a joint investigation into claims that Mayo was receiving payments from a sports agency. Apperantly they are not too happy that Mayo wasn't paying taxes on the monetary gifts...Evander Holyfield probably won't be gambling with Charles Barkley anytime soon. He has apparently missed two child support payments, his $10 million Georgia estate is under forclosure and he is being sued by a Utah consulting company...Chicago has made the short list for the 2016 Olympic games. Take that Prague!.
