The Short and Sweet Version

Baseball Update:
According to Bob Klapish the Mets are getting along a lot better in the clubhouse since Willie Randolph's departure, but that lighter mood hasn't exactly turned into a massive winning streak as they lost to the Mariners, 5-2. Johan Santana gave up a grand slam to pitcher Felix Hernandez in the second inning. Hernandez left the game three innings later after accidentally being spiked by Carlos Beltran at home plate.

Former Met Brian Bannister led a hot Royals team passed the Rockies, 8-4. The win is the eighth for Kansas City in the last nine games.

Dan Haren tossed seven shout out innings during the Diamondbacks/Red Sox pitchers duel. Arizona's two in the seventh was all they needed as they came out on top 2-1. Kevin Youkilis had to leave the game early after getting hit in the eye during warm-ups.

Curt Schillings career may not be over after under going successful shoulder surgery. He could even be throwing off the mound by January. The only question is, who wants an aging pitcher who can't be ready until mid season 2009?

The Diamondbacks activated outfielder Eric Byrnes from the 15 day DL while optioniong Alex Romero back to Triple-A Tucson.

Ben Sheets had a gem of his own tossing a complete game shut-out in the Brewers 4-1 victory over the Braves. Jo-Jo Reyes went only 2 and a third innings, but Atlanta's bullpen held the Brewers scoreless for the remaining 6 and two thirds innings.

Braves right fielder Jeff Francoeur is hoping a corrective contact lense in his right eye will cure his so-far disappointing season.

The Angels rallied in the eighth when Garret Anderson knocked in the go-ahead run, in LA's 3-2 victory over the Nationals. The Nats could be without first baseman Nick Johnson for the remainder of the season after undergoing wrist surgery.

Mark Mulder was scratched from his scheduled rehab start on Monday due to back stiffness, luckily it wasn't an issue with his shoulder, which has undergone two surgeries. The Cardinals have him listed as day-to-day.

All 30 Major League teams will wear special stars and stripes caps during July 4th weekend and on September 11th as a part of the "Welcome Back Veterans" program started by Mets owner Fred Wilpon. Wilpon is hoping to raise $100 million from sales of the caps.

Nascar Update:
Congratulations to this weekend's winner's Kyle Busch (Cup), Carl Edwards (Nationwide) and Johnny Benson (Trucks).

45 teams are entered for this weekend's race at New Hampshire. Click here to see who makes the list.

Greg Biffle signed a three year deal with Roush Fenway.

Looks like Mark Martin is jumping ship at DEI and heading over to Hendrick Motorsports to take over the #5 ride from Casey Mears in 2009. Aric Amirola will drive the #8 full time in 2009, which is currently sharing with Martin.
