Beg, Barrow and Steal

After reading about the Indianapolis Colts Super Bowl Ring give-a-way, I began to think, "What would make me run around a city doing stupid things?" Well, I realized it doesn't take much. Just a few things like this:

1. Keys to a Dale Earnhardt, Jr. tricked out Corvette. A bonus if Junior was to hand over the keys in person, but not a necessity. Even better if he were to drive the Corvette on a race track with me in the passenger seat.
(photo: corvetteblogger.com)

2. A date with either Grady Sizemore, Joe Mauer, Curtis Granderson, Nick Markakis or Ryan Braun. And if game day tickets were included, I may even eat something from Fear Factor.
(photos: mlb.com)

3. Box seats to a Super Bowl where the New York Giants actually win. If they lose, I will be expecting some sort of refund.

4. Dance lessons from Johnathan Papelbon. If he insists on wearing a kilt, he'll also have to rock the jeans underneath otherwise the deal is off!

5. A guest spot on my favorite show, Friday Night Lights. (Which airs Fridays at 9 PM/est on NBC)

Breaking Braves News

The Braves have traded all-star short stop Edgar Renteria to the Detroit Tigers for two prospects, Jair Jurrjens and Gorkys Hernandez. This trade will help the Braves starting rotation by adding a young arm into the mix with veterans John Smoltz and Tim Hudson. It will also allow the Braves another option if they are unable to get a solid centerfielder to replace Andruw Jones through free agency. The Braves will be able to plug in Yunel Escobar at short stop to replace Renteria.

Downgrade, Mr. Romo, downgrade

(Photos: RAmey; TMJ4 news)

People Magazine is reporting that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo spent Friday night hanging out with Ms. Britney Spears. Apparently, Spears and here cousin Alli Simms were hanging out at LA hotspot Ketchup where Romo was having dinner. The group later met up at club Les Duex. But don't get too nervous, Simms and Romo have been friends for about a year and were planning on hanging out.
"Alli was meeting up with Tony and his friends at Ketchup and Britney wanted to
come along. Tony and Alli have been good friends." (source)
While Simms is a major downgrade from Romo's previous flames Carrie Underwood and Sophia Bush, she is an upgrade from her car wreck of a cousin Britney Spears.

UPDATE: Mr. Romo has talked with ET.com (classy) and has refuted reports that he got a lap dance from Britney Spears and that he ever dated Jessica Simpson. Thank goodness, because I was getting worried about your taste Tony. Now find yourself a nice playboy playmate and be done with it!

Celebrating in Boston

Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox

(Photo: Mike Blake/REUTERS)

Baseball Update:
Sunday's Recap
Red Sox 4, Rockies 3
Boston struck first and was able to stay ahead of the Rockies thanks in part to a marvelous outting by starter Jon Lester and relievers Mike Timlin and Johnathan Papelbon. After being down 3-0 in the seventh inning, the Rockies bats came alive including Brad Hawpes' solo shot and a two-run homer by Brad Atkins in the eighth. But Bobby Keilty's long ball became the difference maker in clinching the World Series title for the Red Sox. Their second ring in four years.

Red Sox win series 4-0

Baseball Notes: Mike Lowell was named World Series MVP...Alex Rodriguez has opted out of his contract with the Yankees...And was able to let the word slip during game 4 of the World Series but was unable to attend the pregame ceremony to collect his Hank Aaron Award from Hank Aaron...But Prince Fielder was...Recently retired Houston Astro Craig Biggio picked up the Roberto Clemente Award...A report states the Yankees may decide on their new manager on Monday and announce it on Tuesday...In steriod news, Bud Selig says he doubts he'll see the Mitchell Report before it's released...And Hank Aaron admitted that the steriod talk kept him away from the Bonds homerun chase...The front office may not be talking with Torri Hunter but that hasn't stopped manager Ron Gardenhire from voicing his opinion, he'd like to have Hunter back for 2008...Former Braves 2B, Marcus Giles was released from the San Diego Padres.

NASCAR Update:
Chad Knaus was able to pick the right pit strategy to give Jimmie Johnson and the #48 Lowe's team the win at the Pep Boys Auto 500 atAtlanta Motor Speedway and close the gap between themselves and their Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon to just 11 points. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. lost a tire to end the race under caustion after Nascar had already done one green/white checkered flag. Between the engine failures and parts failures, Junior must be ready for this season and his time with DEI to be over.
Race Results Points Standings

Jimmie Johnson's race winnings will be given to the American Red Cross to help those in Southern California effected by the Wildfires. Johnson is from El Cajon, CA.

Nascar is investigating why Denny Hamlin and Dave Blaney had water in their fuel cells during the race at Atlanta this weekend. Greg Biffle also may have had the same problem.

Steve Hmiel has signed with Ganassi Racing after leaving DEI earlier this month. Hmiel will serve as their manager of competition.

The Nationwide Series plans to race the COT in 2009. Good, let's ruin all the racing in Nascar!

Popo in my crib News:
37 fans were arrested following the Red Sox win over the Rockies on Sunday. "An unruly crowd flipped a pickup truck to its side near Fenway Park and at least one car fire was reported. Young people sprayed each other with beer and some climbed street signs or utility poles." Watch out merry cheerers, because the popo are on your tail!

Bears suprise at Wrigley

After the Cubs season ended during the first round of the playoffs, the resurfacing project began at Wrigley Field. While tearing up the infield, a bulldozer operator found a little suprise, goal posts. Seems after the 1970 football season where the Bears played in Wrigley, the team decided to take down the goal posts but not the cement blocks they were attached to. When asked what to do with them, Roger Bossard who is over seeing the project yelled to "toss them out!" With the remodel, the Cubs will be the final team to "install a modern drainage system." The project is expected to take 6 to 7 weeks, weather permitting. (source)

Three Michigan State Spartan football players were arraigned in District Court in Mason on Wednesday. SirDarean Adams, T.J. watching football with celebrities

The Miami Dolphins have been trying to raise their profile by paying for celebrities to attend their games including flying them to Miami and picking up their hotel bill. All the celebs have to do is attend the game, wave to the people on the jumbo tron and conduct radio and TV interviews. Even with those small duties, the Dolphins have been having trouble getting stars to come to their events.
"Giving it away has been an uphill battle — and it's not getting any easier."
(source)

I think the 0-7 record may contribute to their problems. So far they've been able to entice Terrance Howard, who I admittingly had to look up on imdb.com. At last weekend's game, the Patriots however were able to get Matt Damon and Matt Dillon to head over to their away game in Miami.

The team's hired PR gal Doris Porter had suggested flying in such high profile stars as Britney Spears, her ex-hubby Kevin Federline and Lindsay Lohan. Because nothing gets people to a game like trailer trash celebs. Fortunately, owner Wayne Huizenga put the kibosh on the idea.

Porter had been able to entice Cane star Eddie Motas to attend a game earlier in the season and is working on getting David Beckham, the new emperor of all American sports, Miami resident Anna Kournikova and The Hills star Lauren Conrad to show up to a game. Hey, I've got a way to attrack fans to your new $300 million facility...win some games!

Edwards v. Kenseth round 2

Following the pit road squabble between Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth on Sunday, the teammates have taken their feud to the press.

Matt Kenseth on Edwards: "His behavior has been real erratic lately, honestly. You don't know what to expect with him. That's the thing that's a little bit troublesome. One minute, he has so much respect for you, and he's real friendly and everything's so much fun. The next minute he wants to kick your butt and he's swearing at you. It's a little scary. You never know what you're going to get." (source)

Carl Edwards countered Kenseth’s claim: "What led up to the deal that happened after the race of me confronting Matt, it was not a one-day deal...I've won three races this year in the Nextel Cup Series. When I win, people call and congratulate and people are happy for me. It's just the wrong people. I've got Jimmie Johnson calling me every time I win to say good job. And my teammates aren't the ones doing that." (source)

So far I’ve picked up Edwards is crazy and Kenseth is inconsiderate. Carl take it away…

"I don't think Matt's voluntarily said two sentences to me in the last six months. We just don't talk a lot. We don't know one another well enough. And it's my opinion that that's what's precipitated this stuff is that lack of communication." (source)

Kenseth responded: Carl and I aren't friends. We've never gone to dinner and hung out together…We have talked several times, and he always comes up and asks about the car, and we talk a little at the racetrack, but we've never been like friends where we hang out away from the track and go do stuff. Our interests are a lot different. I don't think anything has happened to make our relationship different. (source)

Geoff Smith, President of Roush Racing told reporters: "[I'd be] real surprised if that by the time we get to Atlanta, there hasn't been a conversation [between Kenseth and Edwards.] They have to work that out. But if they can't, and it has a lingering effect on how the organization runs, then Jack [Roush] would step in again." (source)

Can teammates work together on the track and hate each other off? We’ll have to tune into ABC to watch the race from Atlanta to find out.

Pandering much?

The New York papers are buzzing after former Mayor Rudy Giulani announced he is rooting for the Red Sox in the World Series claiming to be sticking with the American League. He told the Boston area crowd,
"I'm an American League fan, and I go with the American League team - maybe with exception of the Mets. Maybe that would be the one time I wouldn't, because I'm loyal to New York." (source)
Pulling for a certain league is a totally fine if the team in the World Series was say, the Indians. But the Red Sox, your arch rival? Come on! And I'm glad that he noted he's loyal to New York so he doesn't root for the Mets. Let's see which team would a Yankee fan be more upset about, the Red Sox or the Mets? Hmmm...

This act is an example of a bigger problem in politics and it reminds me of girl from Chicago who became a Yankees fan when she ran for Senate in New York. I think her name was Hillary. Rudy, it's ok to have sports convictions. People won't slight you because you're a Yankees fan. But I will slight you for rooting for the Red Sox in the World Series. It shows that you are too easily swayed by popular opinion and will do whatever it takes to get votes. But what does this say about you when you're in the oval office. Will you continue to pander to popular opinion or will you stick to your guns in order to take care of American citizens?

News & Notes: The wildfires in San Diego have postponed San Diego State University's football game against BYU to December 1st. The Chargers game is still up in the air...Meanwhile, the Lakers-Utah Jazz preseason game scheduled to be played in San Diego on Thursday was canceled...The NFL will shorten their draft to 10 minute intervals during the first round, seven minutes in the second and five minutes from their on...The Buffalo Bills will start Trent Edwards instead of J.P. Losman in their game with the Jets on Sunday...It was not a good year for first round draft picks in the NBA. First, the number one draft pick Greg Oden was sidelined for the year after knee surgery and now the second pick in the draft Kevin Durant left the game on crutches with an ankle injury...Luckily it's only the preseason for the Heat who suffered their first ever winless preseason with their loss to the Spurs...And finally, Hoover High School, which was featured in the MTV series "Two a Days" will have to forfeit all games that wide reciever Tristan Purifoy played in and pay a $2,000 fine after the Alabama High School Athletics Association ruled the Hoover illegally recruited and transfer Purifoy.

UPDATE: McLaren has filed an appeal with FIA to get four cars disqualified from last weekends Brazilian Grand Prix. If two of the three drivers who finished fourth, fifth, sixth are found to have doctored their fuel, McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, who finished seventh, would move up in the finishing order and take away the Formula1 title from Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen. The fourth driver finished 10th.

Nascar's Feuding Teammates

By now, many of you have seen the video of Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth’s pit road spat. If you haven’t, I posted the video below.

Apparently Kenseth did something to Edwards on the racetrack that Carl did not appreciate. However, many believe Edwards’ internal anger stemmed from a Busch Series incident in Kansas that had carried over to Martinsville.

But this whole feuding teammate thing is not new to NASCAR. Rewind to July when Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin got into a wreck while Hamlin was leading the race at Daytona. Words were exchanged and Joe Gibbs flew to Chicagoland the following weekend to get things back on track.

Then there’s Hendrick Motorsports. It seems that only Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon have figured out how to remain friends on Monday after battling each other on Sunday. Take Johnson and Brian Vickers bumping at Talladega. Vickers won the race and Johnson was sulking in the corner. The accident even damaged their off track friendship. And let’s just say anytime Kyle Busch’s name is involved, things are not going to go well. Now you can see why people are jumping ship from arguably the most successful team on the circuit today.

Remember when Rusty Wallace wasn’t an annoying broadcaster? Well Ryan Newman certainly does. Rumors ran rampant that Wallace and Newman were not exactly friends during their time at Penske Racing South. Adding fuel to the fire was an interview with the Sporting News, in which Newman's reply about his relationship with Rusty was, “We can skip that question.” But that shouldn’t be surprising news; Wallace wasn’t exactly buddy buddy with Jeremy Mayfield while they were teammates either, although they have patched things up.

So when it comes to Kenseth and Edwards only time will tell. They can either they learn to deal with each other or one of them will end up on the open market searching for a new home.

Torre replacement watch has officially started after Joe Girardi was interviewed on Monday.

In other Yankee news, the Yanks will offer Jorge Posada a three year deal worth about $40 million...Mariano Rivera says that just because Joe Torre isn't coming back doesn't mean he won't...and the Yanks are looking to get up close and personal with ARod and Scott Boras.

George Mitchell has denied reports that he leaked information implicating Indians pitcher Paul Byrd hours before game seven of the ALCS.

While the NLCS was one of the lowest rated series ever, the ALCS was the highest rated series since 2004 which featured the Red Sox and Yankees.

The Red Sox were listed as 2-1 favorites to win the World Series over the upstart Rockies team.

Those looking buy Rockies World Series tickets may have hit a little snag on Monday. An overloaded server shut down the ticketing process but the Rockies will put the remaining 18,000 tickets back on the market on Tuesday.

Braves Update:
The Braves named Bruce manno the new assistant GM taking over for Frank Wren who was promoted to GM earlier this month.

Popo in my crib news:
Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid's son Garrett was released from jail and placed under house arrest until his November 1st sentencing hearing. Reid will be allowed to leave the house only for treatment and going to his brother's high school football games accompanied by his parents. Garrett admitted to using herion prior to running a red light and hitting another car. Watch out Garrett, because the popo are on your tail!

Denver Nuggets suspended guard J.R. Smith was summoned by the popo for assault, distrubing the peace and destruction of private property charges stemming from a October 13th nightclub incident. Smith was previously suspended last year for his role in a fight with the Knicks and was also ticketed for improper passing in a car accident that kille his friend Andre Bell. Watch out J.R., because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: The Indianapolis Colts remain undefeated after pounding Jacksonville 29-7...With wildfires raging in San Diego, the Chargers have moved their practices to the Arizona Cardinals training facility. Many of the players and coaches have been forced to evacuate...U.S. women's soccer coach Greg Ryan is out...The Miami Dolphins will be without running back Ronnie Brown for the rest of the season after Brown tore his ACL...The Big East has taken the blame for a blown call which handed UCONN the win over Louisville...And finally, if you do things to avoid jinxing your team, you're not alone. About 1 in five people, including me are guilty of doing it.

Brady the new Affleck?

After watching Tom Brady in his post game interview yesterday, I began to wonder has Gisele's influence made Brady the new Ben Affleck?

Let's look at the befores:

Tom was just rocking his leather jacket in 2002 after becoming the youngest player (24 years old) to be named the MVP of the Super Bowl. This picture was not only before Gisele but it was pre-Bridget who got his fashion sense on the right track soon after they began dating. But the difference between Bridget's influence and Gisele is more noticable in the next picture.

Now the Afters:

The silk scarf in the pocket maybe the over the top killer to this ensemble. As the year has progressed Tom has added the man purse, the fashion scarf and the side swept hair to his arsenal. Luckily for Tom, the off the field change has not effected his on the field abilities.

But there's hope. Look at Ben today:

Ben Affleck moved from scruffy Bostonian to polished male ebrow waxer Hollywood type. Once he ditched J.Lo for J.Gar he was able to balance his Hollywood style with his back home look. Maybe Tom is just one Jennifer Garner type (maybe newly single Reese Witherspoon) away from finding that fashionable balance and hopefully dropping that Yankee hat!

Baseball Update:
Sunday's Game
Indians 2, Red Sox 11
Jake Westbrook got off to a rocky start for the Indians giving up a run in each of the first three innings. Westbrook was able to settle in for the next three but the damage was done. Two base running errors by Kenny Lofton and a two run homerun by Dustin Pedroia in the seventh inning sealed the win for the Red Sox and their second trip to the World Series in four seasons.
WP: Diasuke Matsuzaka (1-1) LP: Jake Westbrook (1-1)
SV: Jonathan Papelbon (1)

Baseball Notes: Josh Beckett was named the ALCS MVP after two impressive starts and a 1.93 ERA...Member of the 2004 World Series Red Sox team and current Baltimore Oriole Kevin Millar threw out the first pitch and then butchered the names of Red Sox players during the Fox telecast...A report released prior to game seven of the ALCS said Indians pitcher Paul Byrd took HGH from 2002 to Jan. 2005 when it was banned by MLB...Tony LaRussa is expected to be back managing the Cardinals in 2008...Larry Bowa is close to becoming the third base coach for the Mariners...The Rockies had to move their practice indoors after four inches of snow fell onto the field on Sunday...In other Rockies news, they're looking to trade mark Rocktober.

NASCAR Update:
Hendrick Motorsports made it three in a row with Jimmie Johnson's victory in the Subway 500, hitting their stride at the perfect time. The race was highlighted with a season high number of cautions, 21, including Casey Mears and Bobby Labonte's lap 498 crash which took the race into overtime and a lap 505 David Ragan crash which put an official end to the race. Seven out of the top 10 drivers were chasers but Jeff Gordon's third place finish has made this 12 man playoff into a two man run.
Race Results Points Standings

DEI is undergoing considerable unrest between Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Tony Eury, Jr. and Steve Hmiel's departures and their summertime merger with Ginn Racing things are getting bad in race city. Now comes word three DEI employees were fired for running a banner at Lowe's Motor Speedway which read "How much does Bobby Ginn owe you?" I'd be nervous if I was working there.

Call me crazy, but hockey in Newark doesn't seem like a great fit...And finally, the Giants have won five straight including Sunday's 33-15 win over the 498ers since starting the season 0-2. Off to merry ole London for the G-men next week.

Baseball Update:
Thursday's Update:
Red Sox 7, Indians 1
While Josh Beckett was tossing an eight inning, five hit, one run game, Kevin Youkalis was having an offensive explosion at the plate which included a homerum to put the Red Sox on the board first. The Indians tied the game at one with three hits and a run in the first inning, but once Beckett got into his grove there was very little the Tribe could do. Unfortunately fort he home team, once again C.C. Sabathia was bit of a wash out in the their loss.

NASCAR Update:
It's time for the final short track race of the season and the sixth race in the Chase. Jeff Gordon is pulling away from the rest of the field after back to back wins but with 500 grueling laps things could change in a heart beat. A small slip by a competitor could really ruin your day and this track is known to cause some mechanical troubles so this Chase is far from over. Watch the Subway 500 at 1 PM/est on ABC.

Reed Sorenson will be in the pink target car for breast cancer awareness this weekend at Martinsville.
