Nascar's Feuding Teammates

By now, many of you have seen the video of Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth’s pit road spat. If you haven’t, I posted the video below.

Apparently Kenseth did something to Edwards on the racetrack that Carl did not appreciate. However, many believe Edwards’ internal anger stemmed from a Busch Series incident in Kansas that had carried over to Martinsville.

But this whole feuding teammate thing is not new to NASCAR. Rewind to July when Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin got into a wreck while Hamlin was leading the race at Daytona. Words were exchanged and Joe Gibbs flew to Chicagoland the following weekend to get things back on track.

Then there’s Hendrick Motorsports. It seems that only Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon have figured out how to remain friends on Monday after battling each other on Sunday. Take Johnson and Brian Vickers bumping at Talladega. Vickers won the race and Johnson was sulking in the corner. The accident even damaged their off track friendship. And let’s just say anytime Kyle Busch’s name is involved, things are not going to go well. Now you can see why people are jumping ship from arguably the most successful team on the circuit today.

Remember when Rusty Wallace wasn’t an annoying broadcaster? Well Ryan Newman certainly does. Rumors ran rampant that Wallace and Newman were not exactly friends during their time at Penske Racing South. Adding fuel to the fire was an interview with the Sporting News, in which Newman's reply about his relationship with Rusty was, “We can skip that question.” But that shouldn’t be surprising news; Wallace wasn’t exactly buddy buddy with Jeremy Mayfield while they were teammates either, although they have patched things up.

So when it comes to Kenseth and Edwards only time will tell. They can either they learn to deal with each other or one of them will end up on the open market searching for a new home.

It’s been fun blogging with you,
Kate
