Rusty Wallace is Out

Was just over at AOL Fanhouse and the top story was that Rusty Wallace is out at ESPN. He'll be replaced by soon to be retired (after a couple races next season) Dale Jarrett. All I can say is thank goodness! Loved Rusty in the car. Enjoyed his ego in small doses when he was racing, he always gave great sound bites, but listening to him for four hours was well...the reason why ratings are down this season. I won't blame it all on Rusty. There's the missed restarts. The fact that they show two cars hitting on pit road, and one of the announcers says there's a stalled car on pit road. Yeah, getting hit by another car will do that to you! What really drove me crazy about Rusty was his holier than thou way of broadcasting, like he'd never made a mistake in his 20 years in the sport. While other broadcasters can seemingly stay objective when their son/brother is on the track (Ned Jarrett/Darrell Waltrip), Rusty was practically berating his poor son Steven over the course of an entire Busch race. So long, Rusty it's been fun. Now get back to the 200 other business ventures you're surely working on.

UPDATE: Apparently this was a false alarm or wishful thinking depending on how you look at it. Too bad!

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
