Thanks for the Memories, Andruw

(Andruw Jones at Shea 9/12/2007)

Atlanta Braves GM John Scheurholz announced on Tuesday that the Atlanta Braves will not go after free agent Andruw Jones ending a partnership that began sparklingly in 1996 when a 19 year old Jones hit two homeruns in game one of the World Series against the New York Yankees. The Braves will instead go after first baseman Mark Teixeira who will command around $12 million for 2008 through arbitration.

Jones has five All-Star game appearances and nine straight gold glove awards on his resume. And even though he'll leave the Braves after posting his worst offensive numbes in his 11 year major league career, he will be missed by Braves fans alike, including myself. I forced my friends to head over to Shea on September 12th so I could see Jones in a Braves uniform for one last time. Thanks Andruw for all of the memories!

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
