you say goodbye and I say hello

Baseball: The Mets wasted a game tying 3 run blast by David Wright in the fifth, when a half inning later, Pedro Feliciano balked in the Padres game winning run...Gary Sheffield is expected to make his first start for the Amazings on Wednesday...You know it's not going to be a good night when your first baseman pitches in relief and ends up with one of only two scoreless innings. But that's just how things went for the Yankees, who were pummeled by the Rays, 15-5...Prior to the start of the game, the Rays raised their AL banners...Hours after losing their voice, the Phillies were able to hold onto a 9-8 victory over the still winless Nationals...Orlando hit for the cycle as the Dodgers routed the Giants, 11-1...Manny Ramirez says he'd like to finish off his career where it started, in Cleveland...Ted Lilly lost a bid at a no-hitter in the seventh, but it didn't matter as the Cubs blanked the Rockies, 4-0...Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko hit back to back career 300 homers as the White Sox beat the Tigers, 10-6...Speaking of the Tigers, former All-Star pitcher Mark "The Bird" Fidrych has died at the age of 54...Opening Week attendance was down 4.5%. Crappy economy, meet baseaball. Baseball, meet crappy economy.

Basketball: The Cavs clinched home court throughout the playoffs with their 117-109 victory over the Pacers...Houston rocked the Hornets, 86-66...While the Spurs topped the Warriors, 101-72...The Nuggets secured the northwest title after beating the Kings, 118-98...The Celtics will keep Kevin Garnett off the court for another two games, but he does eye a playoff return...Flip Saunders is close to a deal that would make him the head coach of the Washington Wizards...The NBA may consider a replay for shot clock disputes.

College Basketball: Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich are staying at Kansas...Isiah Thomas is considering an offer to become the head coach at Florida International. I hope they have a good legal team over there. Just in case.

Football: James Harrison has cashed in on a spectacular 2008 with a new contract that could net the Steelers linebacker upwards of $51 million. But if all else fails, he'll at least be walking away with $20 million. I'd take it in a heartbeat!...The NFL Network and the Dish Network have settled a lawsuit that will allow Dish customers to recieve the cable channel for years to come.

Hockey: The last place Avalanche have fired GM Francois Giguere...Mike Modano does not want to think about his future...If video games were a window into the future of sports, well then Boston Bruins, you just won the 2009 Stanley Cup. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work that way.

Nascar: GoDaddy.com will be the presenting sponsor for next month's Southern 500 at Darlington. Yet another reason to start watching Nascar races hours after they started, to fast forward through crappy GoDaddy.com commercials.

Best of the Rest: Clemson men's soccer coach Trevor Adair was charged with assaulting his daughters over the weekend. Clemson's athletic department as placed Adair on a leave of absence. Watch out Trevor, because the popo are on your tail!...Former Arizona State coach Bruce Snyder has lost his 10 month battle with cancer.

Check this out: It's not always easy being the Prince of England. For the most part it's a breeze, but then every once in a while, the papers go crazy with news of your latest misstep. Like the time Prince William overcooker an airplane engine by flicking the wrong switch. Oh cheer up Wills, it's not like you need to be a Royal Air Force pilot to pay your bills.
