The Tax Man Cometh



Baseball: In honor of Jackie Robinson breaking the color line, all uniformed members of each major league team will wear #42 today...A.J. Burnett's no hitter was broken up by Carl Crawford in the seventh inning, but the Yankees were still able to get the 7-2 win over the Rays...It was night of bonus baseball for fans around the league. For game went at least 10 innings including the Red Sox and A's which was decided in the 12th inning by a Travis Buck single which drove in the A's winning run in their 6-5 victory...Also going into extras was the Twins who edged the Jays, 3-2 in 10...Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer will start his rehab assignment next week...The Mariners topped the Angles, 3-2 in 10 in Ken Griffrey, Jr.'s return to Seattle...Chris Carpenter exited early during the Cardinals 7-6 loss to the D'backs in 10 innings. Carpenter will likely hit the DL...Could Tom Glavine be hanging up his spikes?...David Wells promises to behave himself in his new gig at TBS. Goodness I hope that is not true. Then what's the point of having him?

Basketball: The Celtics held off the 76ers, 100-98...The win was without Ray Allen who was suspended by the league for one game after elbowing Cavs forward Anderson Varejao...The Lakers earned their 65th victory, routing Utah, 125-112.

College Basketball: UCONN junior Hasheem Thabeet has decided to enter the NBA draft...Duke Senior point guard Greg Paulus maybe taking a different path to professional sports after working out with the Green Bay Packers...Or could he be headed to Michigan to play football?...Mike Anderson has signed a seven year deal to remain Missouri's men's basketball coach.

Football: The NFL released its 2009 schedule. The Cowboys lead all teams with six nationally televised games including a Sunday night game against the Giants on September 20th where they will unveil their new Stadium.

Hockey: The Stanley Cup playoffs begin tonight...Not making an appearance this year would be the New York Islanders who scored the No. 1 pick in the draft lottery...Red Wings Kris Draper will miss games 1 and 2 against the Blue Jackets.

Nascar: Jim France is stepping down as head of International Speedway Corp. His neice Lesa France will take over his position.

Best of the Rest: Oscar De La Hoya announced his retirement from boxing...The FIA has approved a car part that helped Braw GP's Jenson Button win this season's opening two races.
