Top of the Morning to Ya

Baseball: The Yankees got shelled in their 10-2 home opener loss to the Indians. Grady Sizemore had a grand slam in the Tribe's 9 run seventh. Well at least the opening ceremonies were nice...The Cardinals downed the rival Cubs, 7-4...In other St. Louis news, only two weeks into the season and Albert Pujols has already announced he'll be participating in the homerun derby. Of course it doesn't hur that this year's all-star festivities will take place at Busch Stadium...The Marlins completed their three game sweep of the Braves, 6-2...The Nationals are winless no more after beating the Phillies, 8-2...Roy Halladay remains undefeated against the Twins after the Blue Jays rocked Minnesota, 9-2...The Royals have placed Alex Gordon on the DL with a cartilage tear in his right hip...The Mariners placed Kenji Johjima on the 15 day DL with a strained right hamstring.

Basketball: Get well wishes go out to Celtics GM Danny Ainge after suffering a minor heart attack on Thursday.

College Basketball: Former Duke guard Greg Paulus' move to Michigan might not be so easy. The NCAA is demanding a waiver to allow Paulus to play for the Wolverines football team.

Football: Saints owner Tom Benson could have new incentives to keep the Saints in New Orleans if his high-rise office tower purchase goes through...In the grand tradition of the Detroit Tigers pissing off the Catholics, the Jets have now pissed off the Jews by scheduling home games on both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Yet no one's upset that the Lakers play on Christmas, interesting.
UPDATE: The Jets sent a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell requesting that their week 3 game be moved from 4:15 PM to 1 to allow Jewish fans to have enough time to get home before sundown to observe Yom Kippur.


Hockey: The biggest surprise of the second night of the NHL playoffs would be the Ducks blanking the Sharks, 2-0 to take an early 1-0 lead...It only took 12 seconds of overtime for the Blackhawks to dump the Flames, 3-2...The Bruins notched two goals in the third to outlast the Habs, 4-2...Detroit routed the Blue Jackets, 4-1...The NHL suspended Flyers Daniel Carcillo one game for going after Maxime Talbot in game 1 of their playoff series with the Pens. Flyers coach John Stevens also received a $10,000 fine.

Nascar: Rumor has it, Richard Petty Motorsports has inked A.J. Allemdinger through 2010. Now all they need is a full time sponsor.

Best of the Rest: If you haven't heard, former US Open winner Andy Roddick is marrying Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Brooklyn Decker this weekend in Austin, TX. But what you might not know is that Elton John will be the wedding singer. How cool is that? Oh and by the way, how attractive are their kids going to look!
