Sisters are doing it for themselves

Baseball: After being dropped by the Tigers a mere homerun shy of 500, Gary Sheffield may get a chance with the Reds...Huston Street will be the Rockies new closer...Minnesota placed Scott Baker on the DL along with catcher Joe Mauer. They also announced Francisco Liriano will be their opeing day starter...The Nationals put Dmitri Young and Anderson Hernandez on the DL...The Rangers are not only reviving the career of Andruw Jones, but they may also be doing it with Kris Benson who has not pitched in the majors since 2006...I think it's fair to say Jays manager Cito Gaston is not a fan of Roger Clemens...Yankees fans got a chance to check out the new digs on Thursday during the Yankees warm-up day...Apparently $2,500 tickets at Yankee Stadium could be considered overpriced. Thanks Hal for the heads up...Meanwhile the Mets affiliate Triple-A Buffalo Bisons announced they will be giving four free tickets to opening day for anybody who has lost their job...On Wednesday Eastern Kentucky was beating Kentucky State 49-1 in the fifth when the game was called. The two teams smartly decided not to go ahead with the second half of the doubleheader.

Basketball: The Wizards ended the Cavs 13 game winning streak, 109-101...The Nuggets hit the 50 win mark with a 114-104 win over the Jazz.

College Basketball: Congratulations to Penn State on being crowned the 66th best team in the country (or NIT Champs!)...UCS coach Tim Floyd will not be heading over to Arizona...Georgia has hired Nevada's Mark Fox as their new head coach...While Tennessee renegotiated a six year contract with Bruce Pearl...The Temptations will bring their soul stylings to the NCAA Championship game.

Football: The big news of the day is that the Chicago Bears acquired Jay Cutler from the Denver Broncos for three draft picks and Kyle Orton...The Bears also agreed to terms with tackle Orlando Pace...Michael Vick is looking towards a September return to the NFL. But before then, he'll be working construction...Browns reciever Donte Stallworth surrendered in court to face charges of DUI and vehicular manslaughter. He was released on bail...I am going to say testing positive for marijuana during the NFL combine was probably not one of your better decisions there B.J. Raji.


Hockey: Congrats to Corey Potter on picking up his first career NHL goal. But that was about when the good times ended for the Rangers who fell victim to two quick Hurricanes goals in the third in their 4-2 loss...The Habs jumped over the Rangers with their 5-1 rout of the Islanders...David Backes scored four goals in the Blues 5-4 victory over the Red Wings...Four games ended with a 2-1 result including the Bruins edging of the Senators and the Coyotes defeat of the Kings...Aftering taking out the Stars, 2-1, the Flames clinched a playoff spot...Vinny Lacavalier is shutting things down early.

Nascar: Count Jamie McMurray as one of the many athletes who has had their accounts frozen as a part of the Stanford Financial Group investigation...Lucky break for Truck Series owner Billy Ballew. DUI charges have been dropped.



Best of the Rest: Serena Williams took out her big sis Venus, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the semis of the Sony Ericsson Open...Rafael Nadal's day did not go quite as well...UFC president Dana White is in some hot water after cursing out female reporter Loretta Hunt. Which you can watch right here...Don't forget, the IRL season opens up at St. Petersburg this weekend!
