Wacky Wednesday

Baseball Update:
The Pirates gave second baseman Freddy Sanchez a new deal that could be worth up to $19 million if his third year option is picked up.

The Blue Jays signed all-star Alex Rios to a one year, $4.835 million contract.

Scott Podsednik signed a minor league contract with the Colorado Rockies.

The Milwaukee Brewers avoided arbitration with right hander Dave Bush by signing him to a one year, $2.5 million contract.

The Yankees locked up reliever Brian Bruney with a one year, $725,000 deal.

The Tigers traded outfielder Michael Hernandez to the Rangers for Armando Galarraga.

A new Topps card shows former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani on the field celebrating the Red Sox World Championship. Of course, Guiliani wasn't actually on the field cheering them on, he was outside Coors Field drumming up some votes for the Presidential Primaries saying, I'm a baseball fan, I support whoever is playing. Say, how did that work out?

Nascar Update:
According to Kevin Harvick, open wheelers are going to have a rough 2008. And for once I totally agree with him.

Tony Stewart has a long list of accomplishments from Cup and IRL championships to two wins at the Brickyard, but the one thing that's alluded him is a Daytona 500 victory.

Popo in my crib News:
Derek Jeter has reportedly settled his tax case. Jeter has wrongfully claimed Florida as his state of residence from 2001-03 and therefore had not paid New York state taxes. The state claimed that Jeter spent a majority of his time in New York and therefore should have claimed New York as his state of residence. Now I'm not one to argue with the government, but while Jeter does play in New York, he really only spends two weeks a month in the city, otherwise he's on the road. The season runs for six months, but really its like he's in New York for three. If Jeter spent the majority of the off season and Spring training in Florida (also you could add the 9 times he plays in Tampa against the Rays) he could spend up to five months in Florida, thus rightfully claiming it his home state. But I just write about the law, I don't practice it, so Derek, watch out, because the popo are on your tail!
