Ryan Howard's $10 million new reasons to be happy

Ryan Howard has won an arbitration hearing giving the Phillies first baseman a salary of $10 million for the 2008 season, tying Alfonso Soriano for the highest amount ever awarded to a player. Philadelphia had offered Howard $7 million before heading to the hearing on Wednesday.

This was Ryan's first year of arbitration, however the Phillies kindly gave him a little bump in 2007 after winning the MVP award the previous season. He was still only making $900,000. Howard will not be officially eligible for free agency until 2012 when he'll be 32 years old.
