Lock it Up

Super Bowl Round Up:
Plaxico Burress missed a second straight practice. I was confused as to why this such big news, I don't think he attended a single practice this season with his injured ankle and he seems to be doing just fine, until I read he had swelling in his knee. What has he been doing that would give him swelling in his knee?

I always like to post when a hometown boy is written about, ok Jeff Feagles isn't from my hometown, but sometimes there are spottings of him near my hometown, so it's close enough. Whatever, click here for the story. (SI.com)

Apparently former Giants players don't know when to stop talking. Just ask Tim Hasselbeck. I bet he's all upset because they aren't playing in the Super Bowl and because Jared Lorenzen is on the sideline instead of HIM!

UPDATE: According to this article from the New York Post, Tiim Hasselbeck is wrong about Shockey.

So as not to seem so Giantsie today, click here to see how Tedy Bruschi has changed since his stroke. (USAToday.com)

Who's excited for this year's Super Bowl halftime show? No one. Well then fine, you'll miss out on Tom Petty and Alicia Keys. Oh and Jordan Sparks is singing the national anthem. What, couldn't get Clay Aiken?

If you find comissioner Roger Goodell in a luxury box on Sunday, you'll probably notice the Buffalo Bill's Kevin Everett sitting next to him. Everett has been out of football since the first game of the season where he suffered a major spinal cord injury. Since then he was made a remarkable all-be-it not a full recovery. But for a guy who doctors thought would never be able to walk again to be attending a Super Bowl game, it proves miracles do happen.

The average coast of a Super Bowl trip is over 5 grand. Of course, it's slightly higher if those tickets your using were purchased from Stub Hub.

Football News:
Don't think baseball is the only sport getting the pressure from Congress. Senator Arlen Specter is wondering why the NFL destroyed those Patriots tapes so quickly.

The NFL is not hurrying to reinstate Pacman Jones. Gee, I can't figure out why?

The NFL Players Association will reportedly consent to urine tests for HGH.

Steve Mariucci will interview for the Redskins opening.

Baseball Update:
The Mets traded for Johan Santana contingent on one small thing. Signing him to an extension. And for the Mets locking it up is a little harder than they expected. Seems the two sides are not in agreement on the number of years the contract will have.

The Yankees and Morgan Ensberg have agreed to a one year minor league contract. His salary would be bumped up to $1.75 million if he gets the job at first.

It's official, Johnny Estrada has signed with the Nats for one year, $1.25 million.

The Mariners signed Brad Wilkerson to a one year $3 million contract.

The Marlins signed Luis Gonzalez to a one year, $2 million deal. They also signed Dallas McPherson.

The University of Tennesse has honored Rockies first baseman Todd Helton by retiring his number 3.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson feels he's being drowned out by the whole Presidential Primaries and has decided to get himself back in the headlines by talking out the umpires' background checks. Apparently, he agrees they are too invasive.

Braves Update:
Don't worry Braves fans, according to GM Frank Wren, Mike Hampton is fine, honest. Seriously, he's going to be just great. Uh-huh, I'll believe that when I see it.

Don't forget, the PIMC's new Braves Blog is debuting soon!

News & Notes: The rest of the NBA All-Star team was announced. Not surprisingly, Shaq is not on the list...Alexander Ovechkin's 5 points including the game winning goal propelled the Canadiens to a 5-4 win over the Capitals...The Rangers ended their road game slide and extended their win streak against the Flyers with a 4-0 win...Peter Forsberg doesn't want to play in Sweden, he wants to play in the NHL...Former Ohio State coach Jim O'Brien who was fired by OSU and banned by the NCAA for paying a recruit won an appeal that will allow him to coach again. The question is, are there any takers?...A Texas Motor Speedway banner that read "Reason #88: Step mom" was taken down after Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s sister and business manager requested its removal...Jeff Gordon lead the way in AM practice while Denny Hamlin paced in PM practice at California.

Check this out: So I bet you thought I'd put in some more Super Bowl links, but alas, I saw this article on the Carrie Underwood/Keith Urban concert and I had to link it here.

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
