Another day another dollar

Baseball Update:

Curt Schilling's injured right shoulder is becoming quite the controversy up north. Schilling has decided to go with the team recommended rest and rehabilitation method. The Boston Globe however thought the injury needed surgery that could keep him out at least until the all-star break.

The Padres and first baseman Tony Clark are currently discussing a one year contract. Clark played both high school and college ball in San Diego.

The Orioles avoided arbitration by agreeing on a one year, $2,875,000 contract with right hander Daniel Cabrera.

The Phils avoided one arbitration case on Wednesday. Unfortunately for the Phils, it wasn't one with Ryan Howard. The Phils signed infielder Eric Bruntlett to a one year $600,000 contract.

Ryan Church, who the Mets acquired from the Nationals, has finished a deal with the team that will give his 2008 salary a $1,605,000 bump over last year's $395,000.

The Yankees have finalized a deal with second baseman Robinson Cano that will keep Cano in the Bronx for at least four years for $30 million. The deal could be worth up to $57 million if it is extended two extra years.

The new Yankee Stadium is looking at being about $300 million dollars off budget raising from the original quote of $1 billion to an astounding $1.3 billion. Let's hope the martini bar is worth
it!

In other Yankees' Stadium news, Tampa has given its blessing to a request to rename Legend's Field (home to Spring Training and the Yanks minor league team the Tampa Yankees) in honor of owner George Steinbrenner.

Braves Update:
Another sign that Spring Training is imminent, the trucks filled with about 1,000 boxes of equipment where packed up on Thursday and sent down to Florida where they were expected to reach the Wide World of Sports on Friday morning around 8 AM.

Nascar Update:
The official kick off to Speedweeks at Daytona will take place on Saturday night under the lights. The 30th and final Budweiser Shoot Out's starting lineup was picked on Thursday and Kurt Busch drew the lucky flap in the Budweiser bottle giving him the pole. For the starting line up click here. Don't forget to tune into FOX at 8 PM/est on Saturday night!

Mark Martin will be in the number 8 car for DEI through 2009.

So maybe you shouldn't avoid your turn at jury duty, because according to Jamie McMurray, it's life changing.

Mike Helton said that while Nascar is still thinking about, a change in age requirements is not imminent.

Kirk Radomski best known as the Mets clubhouse attendent who squealed is asking a judge for leniency after pleading guilty to distributing steriods and laundering money. As part of his plea agreement, Radomski sat down with George Mitchell four times to help pad the Mitchell Report. Watch out Kirk, because the popo are on your tail!

Former big leaguer Lary Sorensen was arrested for DUI on Saturday, his seventh DUI arrest. Sorenson, who's blood alcohol level was six times the legal limit, was being held at Macomb County Jail. He is awaiting transfer to a state prison where he will go before a parole board to see if has violated his parole. The popo discovered Sorenson slumped over the wheel of his vehicle around 3 AM Saturday. He was transported to a local hospital where he was diagnosised with alcohol posioning. Watch out Lary, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: The Giants don't have to worry about finding a new defensive coordinator after they locked up Steve Spagnuolo with a three contract worth about $2 million a season...Chad Johnson has an interesting start to his pro bowl vacation. Click here for the details...The Lady Vols had quite the scare when two time all-american center Candace Parker went out early during their 87-69 win over Mississippi State. But the news was good, Parker's injury did not seem to be serious...Crazy night in college hoops with Indiana surviving a double overtime push by Illinois 83-79...Pittsburgh scrapping by West Virginia off of a three point buzzer beater by Ronald Ramon in their 55-54 victory...UCLA battling past Washington State with a 67-59 win...And Stanford's 72-43 blow out of Oregon...Shaq is hoping to prove critics wrong following his move to the Suns...While another big man, Yoa Ming and his 22 points helped propel the Rockets passed the Cavs 92-77.
