Before Danica Patrick broke onto the scene in the IRL more than three years ago their was another female stealing all the limelight from her male competitors, Sarah Fisher. Fisher became the first female to sit on the pole and finish second in a race in the IRL. Now Ms. Fisher is looking at add another first, the first female woman to own an IRL team.Fisher, who recently married her former crew chief Andy O'Gara, came up with the idea following her September nuptials. She'll use her father in law John O'Gara to run the day to day operations at Sarah Fisher Racing. The team is hoping to make at least one oval race before the Indianapolis 500 as a part time team.
"It's been a little stressful," Fisher said, "but I've had a great time doing it."Fisher will not be the first ever female owner to place a car in the Indianapolis 500 however. That honor goes to Janet Guthrie who in 1978 set that feat.
"Having run my own team at the Indianapolis 500 in 1978, I know what a huge andFisher is staying realistic on her chances in the competitive series which recently folded Champ Car into its fray, saying a top 10 ten would be like a win for her team. Hopefully, they'll be able to do it. Good luck Sarah!
difficult challenge it is. I'm sure that she will be up to it," Guthrie said in a statement.
