It feels like a heat wave

Football Update:
The Giants started off slow in the first quarter but were able to turn the corner in the second quarter scoring 14 points on their way to a 24-14 win over Tampa Bay and their first playoff win since 2000. Eli Manning was impressive throwing two TD passes and NO interceptions for 185 yards. The Giants will take on the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the playoffs this weekend.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is hopeful Terrell Owens will play in the game againt Big Blue. Of course, the amount of game time is still up in the air.

The Giants weren't the only team breaking a long losing streak, the Chargers with a 17-6 win over the Titans won their first playoff game since 1994.

...But the Chargers euphoria hit a snag after losing TE Antonio Gates with a toe injury in the seoncd quarter.

The Seahawks ended the feel good story of the last 6 weeks by blowing out the Reskins 35-14 on Saturday. The Skins road into the playoffs with a four game win streak which began shortly after the death of teammate Sean Taylor.

Following their loss, the Redskins got a visit from Sean Taylor's father Pedro.

The Jaguars were up by 19 points before blowing a lead in the fourth quarter only to come back and beat the Steelers 31-29. The Steelers failed on two attempted two-point conversions which helped seal thier fate.

Congratulations to Tom Brady on winning the MVP.

In other QB news, J.P. Losman would like to be traded by Buffalo. Losman was replaced and then replaced and then was replaced by rookie Trent Edwards during the season.

Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel is looking for a three year contract extension after his team barely missed the playoffs.

Cam Cameron may have just been fired by the Dolphins, but that doesn't mean he isn't wanted by other teams.

Central Florida's RB Kevin Smith will be going to the NFL.

Baseball Update:
Either Roger Clemens got some bad information about the risks of steriods or he's gone the Whitney Houston "show me the receipt" way of denial during his "60 Minutes" interview. Clemens told ageless wonder Mike Wallace that if he had taken steriods, "I should have a third ear coming out of my forehead, I should be pulling tractors with my teeth." I'd love to see him give that reasoning to congress next week, but first I'll have to check his schedule to see if he'll be able to show up.

Clemens also found time in his busy schedule to sue Brian McNamee for defamation.

The Texas Rangers signed 1B Ben Broussard to a one year, $3.85 million contract.

The St. Louis Cardinals signed infielder Aaron Miles to a one year deal.

The Royals signed pitcher Hideo Nomo to a minor league contract.

Meanwhile, the Royals designated Jason Smith for assignment to make room for Miguel Olivo on the 40 man roster.

The Mets aquired outfielder Angel Pagan from the Chicago Cubs for minor leaguers Corey Coles and Ryan Meyers.

Speaking of the Cubs, they were given permission to put in 70 "bullpen box seats" at Wrigley by the city of Chicago.

Don't worry Nationals fans, Luis Ayala will be fine following a hunting accident in Mexico. And no, neither Dick Cheney or Bobby Knight were present during the incident.

Sad news, Gerry Staley has died. He was 87 years old.

Popo in my crib News:
The Tennessee Titans are asking to dismiss a lawsuit against the team stemming from a strip club shooting in February 2007 which involved Adam "Pacman" Jones. Tommy Urbanski, who was paralyzed in the shooting, and his wife are currently suing the NFL, the Titans, Pacman Jones and Harlem Knights in connection with the shooting. I'm all for getting your money when you can, but no one forced you to go to the strip club that night, so really the onus is on you, Tommy. Watch out people, because the popo are on your tail!

Former Montana State basketball player Brendan Miller pleaded guilty to homicide on Friday. Miller was a part the shooting death of cocaine dealer Jason Wright. Miller also pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon stemming from a bar fight that took place two weeks prior to Wright's murder. Miller will be senteced in May and is expected to receive 130 years in prison with an option for parole in 31 years. Watch out Brendan, because the popo are on your tail!

Former NBA star Isaiah Rider was held in custody on Sunday on outstanding arrest warrants following an incident with a taxi driver in Berkley, CA. Watch out Isaiah, because the popo are on your tail.
