Danny Wheldon happy to call the IRL home

2005 Indy 500 and IRL champion Dan Wheldon is putting his Nascar aspirations on hold, at least until after the Indy 500.

"I'm going to worry about the (Indy) 500, and then we'll evaluate (NASCAR) toward the end of the year,” Wheldon said.

Dan blamed his poor finish in last year’s IRL standings on his Nascar distraction, saying that he started off the season well, winning the first two of four races, but then his finishes dropped off placing him fourth in the final championship standings.

2008 could be Danny's year with last year's IRL champ Dario Franchitti jumping ship and former Indy Champ Helio Castroneves a little distracted with his new found fame.

But don’t think he won’t adventually be joining former teammate Franchitti in stock cars. Wheldon thinks Nascar is “the biggest stage in the world of motor sports.” And you know racecar drivers; they always want to compete against the best and then beat 'em and right now, Nascar maybe the place to do that.
