the train broke down in the tunnel edition

Baseball Update:
Whatever supposedly slump David Wright was in may officially be over after he knocked 2 two run blasts in the Mets 8-4 drubbing of the Dodgers. That's now three in a row, but sorry boys I'm done helping you continue this crazy streak you're on.

The night marked Joe Torre's first game managing back in New York since being let go by the Yankees and signing with the Dodgers. Apparently the time out in Lala Land has been good to him, he looked tanned on TV and reports say he is very relaxed. Honestly though, how could you not be relaxed, after all he doesn't have to deal with Hank Steinbrenner!

Randy Johnson matched Roger Clemens' strike out total but the Diamondbacks fell to the Giants 4-3, thanks in part to Randy Winn's two homers.

Double wammy for the Rays, they sent closer Troy Percival to the DL and lost to the White Sox, 5-1.

The Oakland A's had some DL moves of their own activating Eric Chavez a few days ealier than expected and placing the Big Hurt, who is nursing a strained right knee and quad tendinitis on the 15 day DL.

Then they promptly went out and got pounded by the Blue Jays, 12-0. Ouch!

The Royals are spiralling out of control dropping their 11th straight to the Twins, 5-1. With such a promising start to the season, it seems Kansas City maybe righting itself, well really wronging itself, but you know what I mean.

The Cubs rallied passed the struggling Rockies, 8-4 to hand themselves the best record in baseball.

The Braves avoided the sweep with a 8-1 mashing of the Brewers. Chipper Jones is now sporting an almost gawdy .420 batting average. I'm so glad to see that people are beginning to notice how valuable Jones is to the team now that he has been able to stay relatively healthy this season.

The Braves' Matt Diaz may have caught Jones injury fever after an MRI showed a partial tear in the posterior cruciate ligament. Meaning, he'll be out for at least 4-6 weeks.

Albert Pujols' homerun in the sixth proved to be the deciding run in the Cardinals 3-2 win over the Astros. But the Cardinals received some bad news, pitcher Mark Mulder does not seem ready to return by the all-star break. His shoulder looked good in an MRI but it feels much differently.

The Reds sent Corey Patterson down to the minors in the hopes that he'll be able to fix whatever is ailing him and then lost their nine game home winning streak, falling to the Pirates 7-2.

There has been a lot of noise lately about the use of maple bats in the majors. But the photo towards the end of this article is creepy enough for me to join on this stop maple bats bandwagon.

Nascar Update:
The Monster Mile has Nascar's number this weekend as the Cup boys travel to Dover to take on the 1 mile concrete track. The high banks make for some fast laps but also have a way of producing big time crashes like the ones at Daytona and Talladega with cars unable to move out of the way of their spinning friends in front of them. Martin Truex, Jr. will be returning to the site of his first ever Cup Series win, can he do it again at his so called "hometrack" or will some else sneak in victory lane? Tune into FOX at 1:30 PM/est to catch all the action from the Best Buy 400.

Marathon Partners, LP, a shareholder at Dover is thinking about selling to SMI. Don't do it. There is already one monopoly in Nascar, ISC, there doesn't need to be two. They'll take all the dates away from the interesting tracks and we'll be watching every race from California or some other cookie cutter type track. (And yeah, even at 2 miles long it still seems to produce races like other 1.5 mile tracks but with less butts in the seats!)

Elliott Sadler has signed an extension with Gillett Evernham Racing to keep him in the #19 for the foreseeable future.

Speaking of extensions, Jeff Gordon signed a two year one with his long-time sponsor DuPont.

And Greg Biffle is thisclose to re-signing with Roush Fenway Racing.

Popo in my crib News:
As the saying goes, you don't screw around with the Feds. Too bad track coach Trevor Graham didn't heed that warning. Graham was found guilty of one count of lying to federal investigators
about his relationship to an admitted steriods dealer, Angel "Memo" Heredia. The jury was delocked on two other counts. Watch out Trevor, because the popo are on your tail!

Check this out: I bet you thought I'd be telling all of you to head to a theater near you to catch the new Sex and the City movie, well honestly, I'm kind of on the fence as to whether I really want to spend $10.50 on it, so instead I'm bringing you this link. I'll admit that I didn't watch it when it premiered last summer. But thanks to my DVR, I was able to catch up on Mad Men since about March and I'm telling you its one of those hidden gem type of shows that you MUST watch this summer!

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
