It's getting more painful in New York

Baseball Update:
Just when you think things are going to turn around, Alex Rodriguez back in the lineup, Mike Mussina gives up seven runs (1 earned) in 2/3 of an inning and Derek Jeter leaves in the third inning after being hit on a pitch. Such is the luck of the 2008 New York Yankees who lost to the Orioles 12-2. I guess that deal with the devil ran out circa game four of the the 2004 ALCS.

Speaking of the bad news bears, not only did the Mets lose both games to the Braves on Tuesday, but their hot handed right fielder Ryan Church left the game in the ninth with a concussion (his second of the year) after colliding with Braves shortstop Yunel Escobar. Escobar also had to be helped off the field.

Former Met and Dodger Mike Piazza announced his retirement. Although I have to admit, I kind of thought he had already retired with him not playing and all.

The Red Sox made it five in a row with their 2-1 win over the Royals. Well, you can't have a no-hitter every game, once a year should be good enough. Don't get greedy Boston.

Speaking of that no-no fellow cancer survivor Lance Armstrong is giving shout outs to Jon Lester on his courage and strength coming back from battling cancer just two years ago to throw a no-hitter. Did we mention he's just 24!

Doug Davis who has been out of the Diamondbacks rotation to battle thyroid cancer will return to the team on Friday to pitch against the Atlanta Braves. This is awesome news! Totally makes up for losing to the Marlins 3-2.

The Marlins got some bad news after an MRI revealed a herniated disc in outfielder Josh Willingham's back. Willingham who has been out of the lineup since April 27th, will likely miss another 4-6 weeks.

Detroit has been all or nothing this season and Tuesday's game proved that. The Tigers bats came out swinging including Edgar Renteria's five RBIs in their 12-8 defeat of the Mariners.

Fellow AL Centralers the Twins tacked on 11 runs in their bashing of the Rangers.

Emil Brown's misfortune in the eighth inning sealed a win for the Rays. Brown misplayed a Dioner Navarro sinking liner which allowed three Rays to score in their 3-2 defeat of the A's.

Hunter Pences grand slam in the fourth ended up being the decisive hit in the Astros 4-2 win over the Cubs.

Troy Tulowitzki was a welcome face during Rockies' batting practice. The second year shortstop has been out of the lineup since tearing a quad muscle on April 29th. But don't get too excited, although he was knocking balls into the seats, he'll remain on the sidelines until the all-star break.

In other Rockies news, they lost to the Giants 6-5. The Giants are now 7 of 10 when Tim Lincecum pitches.

Cole Hamels struck out 11 batters in a game that came down to two pinch players in the ninth inning, pinch hitter Greg Dobbs and pinch runner Eric Brunlett, who scored the winning run in the Phillies 1-0 win over the Nats.

Nascar Update:
I hope this isn't because Carl Edwards didn't win...H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler is expected to announce his retirement as president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway. He will succeeded by Marcus G. Smith, son of Speedway Motorsports chairman O. Bruton Smith.

Juan Pablo Montoya will have his third crew chief in a month sitting atop his pit box at Lowe's. Brian Pattie will take over for Jimmy Elledge, who was released by Ganassi.

This weekend's race at Lowe's is the longest of the season, and according to one popular driver, you definately can tell there's an extra 100 miles.

Popo in my crib News:
New Orleans Saints defensive end Charles Grant has been charged with involuntary manslaughter stemming from a February altercation in which he was stabbed in the neck. Laquient Macklin who was also allegedly involved in the fracas was charged with felony murder and feticide in the shooting death of Koryanda Reed. Watch out Charles and Laquient, because the popo are on your tail!

Check this out: Tonight we get to find out which David will be this year's American Idol. If you care even less than I do, well then you'll probably watching something else during the sure to be extended finale. Although *Spoiler Alert* if you turn into the last five minutes you can skip the painful look backs and song reutines. *Spoiler Alert* if you wait until tomorrow morning and turn on any tv program including your local news, you can skip the whole painful viewing altogether and find out the winner. Because *Spoiler Alert* I'll probably be at home on my couch watching America's Next Top Model reruns from my dvr wishing that Anya didn't suck so bad in the final episode. Damn you Whitney. But if you're totally not like me and you do actually care to watch the whole episode tune into Fox around 8 PM/est. But don't say I didn't warn you!

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
