Homeruns and Complete Games

Baseball Update:
Bradon Webb's bid for his 10th straight victory hit a little bit of a wall called the Florida Marlins. Ricky Nolasco pitched a gem in the Marlins 3-1 win.

Speaking of hitting a wall, could it get any worse for the Padres? Well on Wednesday they found out the answer was yes. After drilling pitcher Chris Young with a linedrive, which broke his nose, Albert Pujols then slide into catcher Josh Bard causing Bard to sprain his ankle. And worst of all the Padres got batted around losing 11-3 to the Cardinals.

Bartolo Colon picked up the win in his first start of the season as the Red Sox rolled to their sixth straight win, 6-3.

Following the Braves 11-4 victory over the Mets which saw both Jeff Francoeur and Mark Teixeira knock in a combined 7 runs, a 25 year old fan who attended the game at Turner Field fell to his death after it was thought that he may have been sliding down the handrail before he fell.

Pedro Martinez flew to the Dominican Republic to be with his ailing father possibly setting back his return to the diamond. Our well wishes go out to the Martinez family.

Vlad Guerrero knocked two out of the park as the Angels edged the Blue Jays, 4-3.

Jermaine Dye's two homers helped push the White Sox passed the Indians 7-2.

Tuesday's nailbiter was apparently more than the Phillies were willing to stand, so instead they decided to break the game wide open early including eight runs in the sixth in their 12-2 blasting of the Nationals. Ryan Howard had two homeruns while Shane Victorino picked up his second of the season.

Alex Rodriguez's two...I mean one homerun helped spark a flailing Yankees club to a 8-0 victory over the Orioles. That Darrell Rasner could be turning into something special at the end of that rotation, especially with Kennedy pitching the way he has at the Major League level and with Hughes out until July.

Speaking of the Yankees rotation, they have decided they'll be moving Joba Chamberlain into the starting rotation before the year is out. I understand the idea that if you keep giving the other team big leads there's no reason to have a quality set-up guy. But this kid could be a premiere closer in the future, I wouldn't be so quick to give that up.

Dontrelle Willis will apparently be taking the Barry Zito guide to overpaid pitchers coming out of the pen, after the Tigers decided to bring Willis up as a reliever. They will adventually move him back into the rotation. But they certainly weren't hurting for him on Wednesday as Kenny Rogers and the rest of the crew walked away wiht an easy 9-4 win over the Mariners.

Ben Sheets was one of three pitchers (A's Dana Eveland and Rangers' Sidney Ponson) to throw a complete game in the Brewers 4-1 victory over the Pirates.

In other Brew Crew pitching news, they have shut down "closer" Eric Gagne after the $10 million a year reliever complained of shoulder tightness and inflammation.

Here's something barely worth DVRing, Mindy McCready will discuss her relationship with Roger Clemens in an upcoming film. I think I'd prefer her talk about those DUI arrests and that time she dated Dean Cain more than I want to hear about her time spent with the Rocket. Maybe I'll watch it if it's on like at 2 AM on HBO and I can really fall asleep, it would probably work better than ambien.

The commissioner's office is asking for faster games and urging umpires to enforce the rules to do so. I'm all for it. How many times does a guy have to adjust his batting gloves or step out of the box, into the box, and constantly throwing over to first when you know the guy's not running? Inherently, baseball is a slow game, and that's part of the reason why I like it, but sometimes, it's' ridiculous.

Nascar Update:
Poor Casey Mears, he jumped from car to car to car while at Ganassi and then finally gets to run with the big boys at Hendrick Motorsports and they bounce him from the 25 to the 5. Now all he here's are rumors that he'll be out of the #5 car all together and searching a new ride for 2009. Give the kid a break, especially since I heard Jimmy Elledge is out of job and those two were quite a pair towards the end of their relationship at Ganassi.

Speaking of Elledge, Juan Pablo Montoya is not happy that his fair crew chief was given the old heave-ho after working less than a month together on the 42 car. I know that Ganassi is inpatient, but that's his own fault. If he wanted a more competitive line-up of cars he should have never gotten rid of Sterling Marlin and then replace him with David Stremme. And he should have allowed Montoya to become more accustomed to the cars before brining Franchitti over. Seriously, the most experienced guy on the team is Reed Sorenson and he's like 22.

Speaking of Franchitti, while he won't race in the Coke 600, he is expected to return to the #41 car in time for the race at Dover.

Despite written reporst, Helio Castroneves has no immediate plans to make the jump to Nascar.

Sources revealed that Speedway Motorsports, Inc. is intersted in purchasing the Kentucky Speedway.

News&Notes: The Lakers took care of the Spurs 89-85...Cedric Benson showed up to Bears camp on Wednesday. Benson was arrested last month for boating while intoxicated...The Dallas Cowboys could use Pacman Jones as a WR this year...Dancing with the Stars runner-up Jason Taylor will boycott any offseason work outs with the Miami Dolphins. It's amazing what a big head someone can get from joining d-list celebrities on a reality tv show...Remember last week when I said I would start paying more attention to soccer? Well, I just happened to make that remark right before the Champion's League Finals in which Manchester United was able to squeak passed its rival Chelsea 1-1 (6-5) to take the Title. (P.S. I did try to watch it work, but it was a little hard to completely concentrate on that and do my actual work. Oh well.)

Check this out: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull comes out today it's actually getting really good reviews. Click here to see it's fresh rating and what movie critics across the country are saying about the fourth Indy.

It's been fun blogging with you,
