Homerun Derby

Baseball Update:
Usually if you score eight runs by the fifth inning you're walking your way to an easy win. Conversely, if you give up eight runs by the fifth inning, you're screwed. But that's not the way things went down in Baltimore, as the Orioles topped the Yankees, 10-9 (11). There were nine homeruns hit during the game including shots by the Yankees Jason Giambi, Johnny Damon, Bobby Abreu and Alex Rodriguez and the Orioles Kevin Millar (150th career), Ramon Hernandez, Melvin Mora and Luke Scott.

Yankees pitcher Ian Kennedy left the game in the third inning with a slightly strained muscle near his rib cage.

The Red Sox are facing losing a pitcher of their own after Dice-K left Tuesday's game before the start of the fifth inning after throwing two warm-up pitches. Matsuzaka was seen holding his back before he exited the field. although the Red Sox are calling it "shoulder fatigue." Even worse for the team, they fell to the struggling Mariners 4-3.

The Mets on the other hand got some good news, starter Pedro Martinez will return to make his second start of the season on June 3rd against the Giants. And bonus, they actually won a game, taking out the Marlins 5-3. Could this be the beginning of a two game win streak? I don't know, that maybe aiming too high, especially since their right fielder, Ryan Church is still dizzy after that crash landing against Atlanta last week.

Oakland pulled out a 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays, but not before losing DH Frank Thomas with what is believed to be a slight strain of his right quad muscle. The game was his first against his former squad.

Prior to the start of Tuesday's game, the Blue Jays activated infielder David Eckstein from the DL.

Speaking of the DL, the Tigers placed Gary Sheffield on it with an oblique strain and then lost to the Angels, 3-2.

Despite early an early lead taken by the Braves, Milwaukee battled back with a Mike Cameron walk-off sac fly to give the Brewers a 3-2 win. The Braves placed Matt Diaz on the DL with a left knee injury after the leftfielder crashed into the wall during Tuesday's loss.

Andruw Jones is likely to miss 4-6 weeks for the Dodgers after undergoing surgery to repair some torn cartilage in his right knee. Hopefully, this time off will help him right his ship. Meanwhile, Los Angeles fell to a rallying Cubbies, 3-1.

Tim Lincecum remains the only bright light for the Giants pulling out his seventh win of the season in San Fran's 6-3 win over the D'Backs. The Diamondbacks placed left fielder Eric Byrnes on the DL with a sore hamstring for the first time in his career. This season has become the season of first time DLers with Tom Glavine, Jorge Posada and now Byrnes making their first trips.

The Phillies only scored seven runs...in the first two innings...against the Rockies, but were able to somehow pull out the 7-4 victory. Goodness, these guys are going into an offensive slump. haha

The Indians hit a grand slam and had a triple steal in their 8-2 win over the White Sox. The Indians have been so streaky this season, if they could get some consistency they could really make a run at the Central.

Josh Hamilton's five RBIs helped the Rangers pass the red hot Rays 12-6.

The Reds got a spark from call-up Jay Bruce who went 3-3 with two walks in Cinci's 9-6 win over the Pirates. Adam Dunn went yard for his 252nd career dinger.

Beware Yankees fans, a whole bunch of Sox maybe ruining your swan song to Yankee Stadium if you don't start voting. Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia, Jason Varitek, David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez would all make the starting line-up of this year's all-star game while only Yankee's Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter would be out on the field if voting ended today. Juan Pablo Montoya's request for a meeting with team owner Chip Ganassi was granted on Saturday morning. Montoya expressed his displeasure with the direction the team was headed especially after the firing of crew chief Jimmy Elledge earlier in the week.

Kyle Busch is apparently feuding with a couple of Hendrick Teammates including Jeff Gordon.

Meet Nascar's version of Sean Avery here. One question, when will he ever fit his internship with Vogue in?

So far a decision has not been made public, but I'm hoping Goodell drags this out until July so Jones will be forced to stay on his best behavior...Speaking of Goodell, the NFL announced they will not punish teams for player violations prior to the June 1st policy change. The league will also not penalize a team for picking up a player will a checkered past...The Broncos inked a back up plan in Michael Pittman, while they await the return of running back Travis Henry who's been out with a hamstring injury...Jose Canseco will fight former NFL pro bowler Vai Sikahema in Atlantic City. Check this out: Like you needed another reason to love Kristen Bell more. I mean, she was awesome in Veronica Mars, narrates our guilty pleasure Gossip Girl, adds spice to Heroes, was hilarous in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and even wowed us in that Lifetime movie Gracie's Choice but courtesy of nhl.com via people, we've learned that Bell shares our love of hockey players. Click here for the details.

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
