Baseball Update:
Losing their 10th in a row in true slump fashion (giving up five runs in the ninth inning) would make anyone want to snap, so it's not unsurprising that Jose Guillen is calling his team a bunch of babies, but maybe next time he should tell it to his team, not the press.
The White Sox have some turmoil of their own between manager Ozzie Guillen and shortstop Orlando Cabrera, but the bickering hasn't hurt their AL Central leading team, edging the Indians 6-5.
Speaking of off-the-field insansity, the Mets have started to settle in after the whole will he or won't he get fired manager debate in heroic fashion. Endy Chavez bettled his first homerun in over a year to tie the game at five a piece in the ninth and then Fernando Tatis drove in the game winning run with a double in the 12th to hand the Mets a 7-6 victory over the Marlins. Maybe a three game win streak could be in order for the Metsies?
Alfonso "don't boo me" Soriano gave the fans something to cheer about with his game winning single in the 10th to give the Cubs a 2-1 win over the Dodgers.
Cincinnati brought out the big bats in their 9-1 bashing of the Pirates. The game marked their ninth straight home win.
The Phillies themselves know a little thing about offense, like their 20 run outting on Monday, but on Wednesday they only were able to manage a measley 6 runs, including Chase Utley's 17th homer of the season. But luckily, Adam Eaton pitched six innings, giving up only one run for his first win in the Phils 6-1 win over the Rockies. The game completed a three game sweep by the Phillies.
Chase Ultey was named one of the "25 Fittest Guys in America." So that explains the league leading 17 homeruns.
Rockies minor league catcher Humberto Cota was suspended for 50 games after testing positive to performance enhancing drugs.
The Yankees are all hands on deck with this Joba move, having him pitch 2 scoreless innings before sending him back to the bullpen to continue to stretch out the reliever. In the meantime, Andy Pettitte was able to do his job, limiting the Orioles to just two runs in the Yankees 4-2 victory.
The Mariners and Padres swapped righties with Cha Seung Baek going to the Pares for Jared Wells...And then the M's blanked the Red Sox 1-0 to complete a pretty productive day.
For the Red Sox, they await word on expensive ace Daisuke Matsuzka's shoulder. Dice-K flew back to Boston and is scheduled to have an MRI on his "fatigued shoulder" on Friday.
With all this focus on speeding up the games, who you might ask plays the fastest games in baseball? Why it's the Minnesota Twins, but don't ask them how, they're not completely sure. click here for more.
I'm pretty sure this will bring tears to your eyes, Sammy Sosa says he plans to retire after the 2009 World Baseball Classic...Meanwhile Bret Boone announced his retirement after 14 years in the Majors.
My new best friend Pete Rose admitted he bet "like $2,000" on Reds games while he was managing. You know, because like to me, 2 grand is like pocket change, I just toss that around on Marc Jacobs bags and Bottega dresses.
This is crazy, a hydrochloric acid leak caused Wednesday night's game between the Omaha Royals and Oklahoma Redhawks to be suspended while the Stadium was evacuated. The game will be finished before the start Thursday's scheduled match-up. Of all the reasons to cancel a game, a midge infestation, lighting issues, lightning, a tornado, this one would have to top the charts.
Nascar Update:
Nascar is stiffing its standard COT penalties after handing Haas CNC's #66 and #70 a 150 point car owner and driver penalty for altering the bolts holding the wing on both cars. In addition to their points infraction, both teams will be without their crew chiefs for the next six weeks in addition to the $100,000 fine and probation both Bootie Barker and Derick Jennings were levied.
In addition to the Cup Series fines, JR Motorsporst Tony Eury, Sr. was fined $1,000 and place on probation, crew member Michael Sandlin was handed a one race suspension and fined $1,500 and crew member Jordan Allen was placed on probation until October 15th and fined $1,500 for their actions during a post-race dust-up with Denny Hamlin's crew. How did Brad Keselowski not get fined?
Kurt Busch lead the second day of testing at Pocono.
Marcus Smith has been officially tabbed as the new president and CEo of SMI, replacing Humpy Wheeler who was unceremoniously dumped by the speedway corp last week. It's good to have parents in high places.
For one week, and maybe one week only, a driver actually has been receiving more press than Dale Earnhardt, Jr. But what can you expect from Joey Lagano an 18 year old making his Nationwide Series debut. Well according to the media, greatness, like the second coming of Jeff Gordon or something.
Kasey Kahne is hoping to turn his 2 race sweep at Lowe's into enough momentum to get him into the Chase.
Is racing the new trend for celebrities? Goodness, I hope not.
News&Notes: Not only did the Penguins finally score some goals, they actually won a game, 3-2 to cut the Red Wings Series lead to two games to one...The Red Wings weren't the only Detroit team losing on Wednesday, the Pistons failed to complete a fourth quarter rally, falling to the Celtics 106-102...Detroit's Rasheed Wallace got his sixth techincal of the postseason. If Wallace gets one more T, he'll be forced to ride the pine for one game...The NBA admits there was a foul committed in the closing seconds of game four between the Lakers and Spurs...One of the greatest rules ever, the NBA plans to impose fines to players that "flop" during a game. Yeah, I hate sissy moves like purposely falling to the floor to get a foul. C'mon, play like a man!...Tank Johnson is begging NFL commish Roger Goodell to reinstate Pacman Jones. It's really bad when your character witness is Tank Johnson. At least try to get Romo to beg. You know if he's not busy with Jessica and her dad.
