Coca-Cola 600



Winner: Kasey Kahne


Recap: Kasey Kahne completed the Lowe’s Motor Speedway sweep wining the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday night. Kahne took the top spot after leader Tony Stewart blew a right front tire and hit the wall. Stewart’s tire malfunction was the theme of the night turning the car race into a war of attrition. Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Kurt Busch, Brian Vickers had tire issues which took them out of contention, while Patrick Carpentier, Jimmie Johnson, Robby Gordon and Paul Menard exited early due to mechanical problems. Kahne was able to keep his nose clean giving him his first victory since October 2006.

Shout Outs: David Reutimann who ran a smart race bring his #44 UPS Toyota home in 10th place his first top 10 of the season and Elliott Salder who made it two Gillett Evernham cars in the top 10 with his eighth place finish.

Disappointments: After pacing the early part of the race, Brian Vickers' tire literally came off and bounced into the in field ending his promising day early and handing him a 42nd place finish.
