Next Winter Classic at Wrigley?

A few months ago it seemed like the next chapter in the wildly popular NHL Winter Classic was headed to Yankee Stadium as a fond farewell to the house that Ruth built and Steinbrenner gutted in the 70s. But that idea has seemed to be put on ice (excuse the pun) and now it’s looking like an even older ballpark could play host to what is turning into an annual affair for the League. Reports are flying that Wrigley Field (not Soldier Field as rumored) will house the event, with the could be Stanley Cup Champion Red Wings going up against the hometown Chicago Blackhawks. (Confirmation could be coming as early as next week.)

While I enjoy the idea of playing at Wrigley, I would have preferred it at Yankee Stadium or the other rumor of a game between the Penguins and Flyers being held on the Penn State campus. One thing’s for sure, the NHL may have hit upon something, but hopefully they won't go all Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and over schedule it.

It's been fun blogging with you,
