Viva Las Vegas

That's right kids, I'm taking a little vacation and heading over to Vegas for a long weekend. While I enjoy the fun, sun, drinks and gambling, I will be unable to post until Monday. So don't get too jealous, green isn't a color that works on all skin tones. Enjoy your weekend!

Hump Day Hair

Sorry we're being a bit lazy, but it kind of works, after all, we're heading up to the Bronx tonight to see the Tigers play the Yankees. And whatever, next to Bronson Arroyo, Magglio Ordonez is sporting the best hair in baseball!

Avery ruptures spleen

While we enjoy razzing Rangers left winger Sean Avery, we were upset to discover that he had been taken to the hospital with a lacerated spleen. I mean how will this effect his internship at Vogue? But in all seriousness, we wish Avery the best as he recovers. And we’ll certainly miss his chats with the Penguins for the rest of the series. Although, I don't think Sidney Crosby will.

(Around 3:00 mark)
Also we’re a little nervous about Jaromir Jagr’s comments following last nights 5-3 loss to the Penguins. Will Thursday really be his last game as a Ranger? (Hopefully not, if only because we don't want the Rangers to be swept) His performance on Tuesday was gutsy and full of passion, just the way we like it!

Giants are heading to Washington

The Super Bowl Champion New York Giants are making their way to Washington, DC today to meet with President Bush in celebration of their over throwing of Goliath in February. They will also head over to Walter Reed Army Medical Center to meet with injured solidiers bring smiles to ever Patriots and Redskin's fans face, I'm sure.

Schaefer just the tip of the iceberg for new MLB investigative unit

Baseball’s new investigative arm The Department of Investigation, established in January at the suggestion of the Mitchell Report, is working on some big projects, including cracking the big business of identity theft.
"Jeter, Derek, you're license is ready for pick-up." "Wow, Der...hey, you're not Derek Jeter." "Yeah I know, I get that all the time, we just share the same name...Birthdate...social...skills..."
Other ideas in the pipeline include figuring out what evidence the government has before it releases it. Hey, I bet I know some one that might want that kind of information, Barry Bonds. They hope that by conducting its own investigations it can quit being surprised at all those darn congressional hearings they keep going to.

And as the Braves can attest, the new unit has been successful. In April, the League suspended super prospect Jordan Schafer for 50 games for his HGH use. The Department hope to continue to find more drug users, suppliers and illegal immigrants posing as professional baseball players in the future. It's like a regular one stop criminal processing center or major league training facility in South America, whichever you want to look at it. I prefer county booking myself.

Wincing like Chris Drury

Baseball Update:
Both the Braves and Yankees placed big name players on the DL on Tuesday. A-Rod will be out for at least 15 days with his quad while John Smoltz was placed on the DL with inflammation in his right rotator cuff and biceps tendon. Luckily for the Braves, he will not need surgery and is willing to go back to the bullpen. One problem solved.

Both the Yankees and Braves suffered a 6-3 loss on Tuesday as well. So not such a great day for the two former World Series advisaries.

The Nationals' closer Chad Cordero is expected to head back to the DL after leaving their 6-3 victory over the Braves after throwing just 13 pitches.

Troy Tulowitzki injured in quad in the Rockies 3-2 win over the Giants. The game was the first loss of the season for Tim Lincecum.

The Rockies optioned struggling pitcher Franklin Morales to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Greg Maddux is still in search of win #350 after he and the Padres fell to the Phillies 7-4.

David Wright played hero in the Mets 5-4 win over the Pirates (11). The Mets may also see Moises Alou return to the lineup on Friday.

Kevin Youkilis drove in the winning run in the Red Sox 1-0 win over the Blue Jays. Sox outfielder J.D. Drew had to leave the game early with a tight quad. What's up with all the quad injuries?

I don't know if I ever thougth I would write this sentence, but the Orioles were able to defeate the Rays 7-4 in the battle of AL East supremcy. And when I say supremcy I mean for the top spot in the division, not a battle the crappy teams to see who is more superiorily crappy!

If you are planning to see the All-Star game this year, it could cost you $725. That doesn't include the homerun derby and other things the Yankees make you pay for to get the chance to see the game.

Speaking of the All-Star game, balloting beings today!

Nascar Update:
Patriots receiver Randy Moss is looking to get into Nascar by starting a Truck Series team. Good luck on that one.

Ken Schrader will replace Dario Franchitti in the #40 Dodge for this weekend's race in Richmond. Franchitti broke his ankle last week in the Nationwide Series race at Talladega.

And if Chip needs it, Sterling Marlin has been placed on stand-by as another possible replacement for Franchitti in upcoming races.

Jon Wood will remain in the #21 Wood Brothers car.

Lowe's Motor Speedway will feature new SAFER barriers along the inside wall of its backstrench just in time for the All-Star race next month.

News & Notes: The Rangers have dug themselves into a mighty whole after falling to the Penguins 5-3 on Tuesday, giving Pittsburgh a 3 games to none advantage in the series...The Rangers also lost Blair Betts to injury while Chris Drury skated in visible pain during the game...The Dallas Stars 2-1 victory over the Sharks place them one game away from a sweep...While the Red Wings are similiar footing with their 4-3 win over the Avalanche...Jarome Iginla, Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin have been names the three finalists for the Hart Trophy...The Spurs took care fo the Suns 92-87, knocking them out of the first round...The first round loss also seems to have cost head coach Mike D'Antoni his job...And the Hornets eliminated the Mavs, 99-94...Congratulations to the Hornets Byron Scott on being named the Coach of the Year...Similiar shout outs to the Sonics Kevin Durant if a report is true naming him as the Rookie of the Year...The Buffalo Bills will be paid $78 million to play eight games in Toronto over the next five years. For a slight discount Toronto, I will accept say $7.8 million to type my blog from your city eight times over the next five years. Fine, $780,000. Ok, how about $78,000. No! Well how about $7.80 and throw in a free frapaccino and I'm all yours!...The Olympic torch has made its way to Hong Kong. Take that crazy protesters!

Barry can you say demoted?

Baseball Update:
Barry Zito will become the most expensive ace in the pen for the Giants after the team decided to move him out of harms way. Well, he can still give up the decisive homerun in the eighth, but that would probably be the only way he'd be pitching in the eighth...whatever that's a hell of a lot of money to spend on a reliever.

Meanwhile, the Giants picked up a 4-0 win and gave manager Bruce Bochy 1,034 career victories surpassing Felipe Alou for most victories by a foreign born manager.

There a lot of key injuries floating around baseball including John Smoltz's shoulder, the Rangers Hank Blalock, the Indians Grady Sizemore's ankle and Alex Rodriguez's quad.

Speaking of the Yanks and Indians, the two teams faced off on Monday night with the Bombers walking passed the Tribe 5-2.

Dan Haren was able to hold the Astros in check to give the Diamondbacks a 5-3 win.

The D-Backs also called up rookie pitcher Max Scherzer while optioning Yumseiro Petit to Triple A Tuscon.

Bronson Arroyo picked up his first win of the season in the Reds 4-3 victory over the Cardinals.

The Orioles and White Sox are locked in extras after a rain shower postponed the marathon to another day. The two teams are tied at three.

Speaking of rain outs, the Mets and Pirates game got washed away. The teams will make up the game in August.

With the day off due to the rain, Carlos Delgado got to re-hash his actions on Sunday. Delgado chose not to take a curtain call after his second homerun angering fans. Since when do two homeruns constitute a curtain call. It's April, get pissed off if he refuses not to take a curtain call after hitting a walk-off homerun in the playoffs. Not this. Oh and weren't you the same people booing him when he came to the plate during that same at bat? Yeah, sit down!

On June 1, Mike Liberthal will officially retire as a Phillie, the place where he called 13 of his 14 major league season home.

Roger Clemens is in more hot water after a report linked the former pitcher to country train wreck Mindy McCready. According to the article, the two met at a karaoke bar when McCready was just 15 and Clemens was 28 that led to a decades long affair. So fair, Clemens has denied it while McCready has backed up the claim. Although, with those DUI charges, it's hard to believe her story, then again Clemens isn't exactly a truth sayer so we'll side with the New York Daily News, they would never tell us a lie would they? Crap, now we're totally confused.

Nascar Update:
The Cup race entry list for this weekend's race at Richmond has been released. Click here to see who is on it.

DEI picked up Martin Truex, Jr.'s option for the 2009 season. So Truex won't leave until 2010, he's still leaving. DEI has inferior equipment, his talents would be suited somewhere else.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Danica Patrick will team up for an interview on Thursday. One catch you have to subscribe to XM to hear it. Or find a friend who has XM and ask them to give you a ride to pretty much nowhere so you can hear the whole interview. Whatever, figure our a reason why they owe you!

Popo in my crib News:
Former NBA star Isaiah Rider has a bench warrent out for his arrest after he failed to show up for his scheduled arraigment. So I'm pretty sure that fits under my mantra of not screwing with the government, but if not, then it goes under mantra 1b, don't ccrew with the judicial system. Rider had been charged with driving with a suspended license after an incident that month. Watch out Isaiah, because the popo are on your tail!

Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo was questioned by police after an alleged run-in with transvestites in Rio de Janeiro. Oh so much wrong yet so much right with that sentence! According to the report, Ronaldo had decided to pick up some prostitutes, but not realizing they were transvestites, he invited them to a hotel room. He even allegedly asked for the call girls/boys to get him some drugs, but once he discovered they hadn't been exactly what he had expected he offered to pay them $30,000, asking them not to go to the media with this little story. I guess $30,000 isn't enough in hush money for some angry transvestite prostitutes. Lesson learned. Watch out Ronaldo, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: The Flyers took a 2-1 series lead after beating the Canadiens 3-2...The Atlanta Hawks tied the series at 2 games a piece after beating the Celtics 97-92. Wasn't Boston supposed to sweep?...Speaking of sweeps, the Lakers completed their's with a 107-101 victory over the Nuggets...Apparently LeBron James is whiney...Pat Riley has stepped down as head coach of the Miami Heat. He will be replaced by Erik Spoelstra...Meanwhile, Larry Brown could be heading to Charlotte...Sad news, Will Robinson, the first black division-I basketball coach has passed away. He was 96...The Eagles are suing Terrell Owens to recover bonus money. How'd that work out for the Falcons?...Drug testing for the British Open has been delayed. Why, because Daly's not playing?

Check this out: So we've been a bit TV centric, but we can't help ourselves, TV is back! Tonight, we're practically on our knees begging you to catch Reaper on the CW. The show is amazingly funny and very well cast and frankly we're kind of crushing on Sam (Bret Harrison) plus is love interest is played by Missy Peregrym who dated (could be currently haven't kept track) Steelers QB Ben Rothlesberger. You wouldn't want to piss him off. So tune into the CW tonight at 9 PM/est! Missed an episode? Catch up here.

Dreary Monday

Baseball Update:
The Braves had more problems than just dropping another game to the Mets, 6-3 on Sunday when their starter John Smoltz left the game with shoulder discomfort. On the flip side, the Braves will get starter Tom Glavine back on Tuesday.

It's still early but you cannot deny the fact that the Rays are hot, especially after blanking the Red Sox 3-0, moving them into a tie for the AL East with the Orioles. Yeah, that sentence proves its still early.

Speaking of the AL East, the Yankees edged the Indians 1-0. Chien Ming Wang is now 5-0 on the season.

However the Yankees will have to contend with a finding a steady replacement for Jorge Posoda who will likely be placed on the DL with shoulder issues.

And the Indians will be without Jake Westbrook for about a month after his injured back was evaluated as more serious than originally thought.

Brandon Webb and Jake Peavy held their own pitching clinic with Webb besting Jake in the D-Backs 2-1 win.

Wes Helms seems right at home in Florida if only for one day, hitting the game winning homerun in the Fish's 1-0 win over the Brewers (10).

Pittsburgh avoided a sweep by the Phillies with a 5-1 win. They also released veteran pitcher Matt Morris.

The Giants placed Kevin Correia on the 15 day DL with a left intercostal strain. They are also trying to figure out what to do with Barry Zito especially after giving up eight earned runs in three innings the Giants 10-1 loss to the Reds.

Great news, Umpire Kerwin Danley was released from the hospital after taking a 96 mph Brad Penny fastball to the right side of his jaw.

Nascar Update:
Dario Franchitti’s injury puts the danger of racing on Saturday and Sunday in the spot light once again. Franchitti broke his ankle during an accident in the Nationwide Series race. But here’s the real problem, Franchitti’s lack of stock car experience has put his well behind the 8 ball. The only way to increase seat time is to have him race in both the Nationwide and Truck Series as well as the Cup Seires but that comes at a severe risk. So is it better to have a healthy driver who sucks or an injured driver who doesn’t suck quite so much? I’d go with neither and say its better to wait for the driver to gain more stock car experience than to throw him to the wolves. And you wonder why your team is doing poorly Chip.

David Stremme replaced the injured Franchitti in the Cup race on Sunday.

Kevin Harvick, Inc. will implement random drug testing. Hopeful Nascar or other organizations will follow suit.

Congrats to Tony Stewart on winning the Aaron's 312 and to Ron Hornaday for winning O'Reilly Autoparts 250.

News & Notes: The Penguins shut out the Rangers 2-0 to take a 2-0 series lead...The Stars also own a 2-0 series lead after crushing the Sharks 5-2...The Suns held off elimination for one more day after beating the Spurs 105-86. For more playoff news click here...This weekend the NFL held their annual draft. Click here to see who went where and when...UCLA QB Patrick Cowan will undergo knee surgery and miss the entire 2008 season...Congrats to Dan Wheldon on winning in Kansas...Ashley Force beat her father John and the rest of the competitors to become the first female to win a national Funny Car event after taking the South Nationals on Sunday. Congrats Ashley!

Aaron's 499

Winner: Kyle Busch
(Photo: AP Photo/Rainier Ehrhardt)

Recap: Kyle Busch proved you can never give up at Talladega after falling a lap down during the middle part of the race, Busch powered through getting himself back on the lead lap and coasting to his first ever win on the Alabama track. But in typical Talladega fashion, the race could not conclude without a couple of pile-ups with the final one forcing the race to end under caution.

Race Results Points Standings Photos

Shout outs: Travis Kvapil who kept his nose as clean as possible driving his way to a sixth place finish for his #28 RYR Ford. Also to Juan Pablo Montoya who matched his Cup best on Oval tracks of 2nd place taking Chip Ganassi's threats to heart, I'm sure.

Disappointments: It was a rough day for many of the top 12 drivers going into Tallagdega as Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards all were involved in wrecks that lead them to finish 23rd or worse.

Next Race: Saturday @ Richmond International Raceway

Good morning, good afternoon and good evening...

Sorry for the late finish but I had an early morning meeting.

Baseball Update:
The A's socked Minnesota starter Francisco Liriano in the their 11-2 win. The game marked the return of Frank Thomas to Oakland.

The Red Sox rally in the ninth came up short as the Angels beat Boston 10-9 to take the three game series.

Alex Rodriguez rejoined the Yankees, but it wasn't enough as reliever Joba Chamberlain suffered his first career loss in the Bombers 7-6.

Chipper Jones celebrates his 36th birthday with a 3-3 for three performance that included a homerun and a 7-3 Braves win over the Marlins.

A bet the Giants wished they could have Tim Lincecum start every game for them after he picked up his fourth win of the season in San Frans 1-0 victory over the Padres. The Giants are now 5-0 in games Lincecum pitches.

The Rockies rallied passed the Cubs 4-2. They also announced that Brian Fuentes will replace Manny Corpas as their closer.

The Dodgers have announced a stadium improvement plan. I've never been but as long as they don't touch the Dodger dogs, I think I'll be ok with it.

The burried Red Sox jersey has sold for $175,100 at auction. The proceeds will benefit Boston area charity the Jimmy Fund.

Nascar Update:
The Cups boys are back on the circuit this weekend heading over to one of the most dangerous tracks, Talladega. At any moment your car could be swept up into the "big one" or even the "mid one" where 10-20 cars go from $4 million machines to $4 millions worth of scrap metal. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is riding a 70 race win streak, can the track where he at one point won 5 in row become his lucky charm once again or could a surprise contender find himself in victory lane? You'll have to tune in to find out. Watch the Aaron's 499 on Fox beginning at 1 PM/est.

Tony Stewart is still at JGR but he's open to new opportunities.

Meanwhile Gibbs is hoping to put the rumor mill aside and focus on continuing to dominate the Cup Series.

Martin Truex, Jr. took part in Oprah's Big Give. Click here for the details.

News & Notes: The Flyers must be kicking themselves for giving up a 2 goal lead only to fall to the Canadiens 4-3 in OT...The Wings edged the Avalanche 4-3...Ryan Potulny scored the game winning goal in the fifth overtime to give the Philadelphia Phantoms a 3-2 victory over the Albany River Rats. The game marks the longest in AHL history. Which is worse, a 5 OT hockey game or 22 innings of baseball?...Both the Wizards and Raptors chopped their deficits in half by beating the Cavs and Magic respectively. For more playoff news click here...Hey remember when your boss mentioned you should never put in email what you don't want others to read. Well the ownership of the Sonics are learning that the hard way after revealing emails were handed over to a federal court, which could ultimately detrail the Sonics train from moving to the Oklahoma City station...UNC's Ty Lawson will reportedly declare for the NBA draft but will not hire an agent making him eligible to return to the college ranks if he goes undrafted...The Jets traded DT Dewayne Robertson to the Broncos for a 2009 draft pick...Speaking of the draft, don't forget to tune in to see who your favorite NFL team drafts this weekend.

Check this out: There are two funny movies headed to a theater near you this weekend. Both Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay and Baby Mama open wide so go out and buy some tickets for you and the little lady. Dwayne Wade's new gal pal a real "star"

As we mentioned this morning, a rumor is floating that Miami Heat star Dwayne Wade is actually dating his own star, Star Jones. (And when we say star, we mean it in the loosiest way possible.) At first we thought this was some horrible pratical joke like that whole no water in the dugout bit major league baseball was doing. But now there's some visible evidence, which frankly forced me to totally throw up that really get tomato and motz sandwhich I had for lunch. Good going down, not so much coming up. Was that a little bit of TMI? Anyway click here for the pics.

I guess there's one good thing to come out of this, hope for all the ugly girls that they too can land a incridibly plastered basketball star, for at least one night. Dream big girls, dream big. Well not that big...a little smaller...ok let's be realistic here...She was almost famous for a bit.

Take your kid to work day invades my morning commute

Baseball Update:
The Cubs franchise reached 10,000 victories with their 7-6 win over Colorado. They have 10,000 wins, but do they have 10,000 losses like the Phillies, yeah not so much!

Speaking of the Phils, they got beaten by the Brewers, 5-4 and even gave up two homers to Prince Fielder. Seems Fielder's getting over his early season homerun slump.

For a second straight night, the Red Sox had to pull their starter (Dice-K) before gametime but unlike Tuesday, Boston was unable to recover falling to the Angels 6-4.

Walt Jocketty will replace Wayne Krivsky as the Reds GM. Too bad the Reds didn't give him quite the welcoming party he was hoping for, dropping to the Astros 9-3.

I guess the Tigers are righting their ship after destroying the Rangers 19-6. Wednesday also saw the return of Curtis Granderson to centerfield. Watch out AL Central, because the Tigers are hoping to back up the media's early season predictions. And the Rangers are backing up mine!

Maybe instead of building a new stadium the Tampa Bay Rays should just play all of their games in Orlando after improving to 5-0 in games played at Disney with their 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays.

Greg Maddux was one inning away from reaching 350 wins but unfortunately Trevor Hoffman didn't do his part, blowing a save in the ninth in the Giants eventual 3-2 win (13).

Oh, Giants GM Brian Sabean is finally starting to realize there's something wrong with Barry Zito.

Nascar Update:
Reports say that two-time Nascar Cup Champ Tony Stewart has been asked to be released from his final contract year with Joe Gibbs Racing. Currently J.D. Gibbs has stated publically that he and his team have no plans to release him. Tony don't go! Who's going to keep you around after you have one of your tantrums? No one. Just ask your teammate Kyle Busch who was given his walking papers from Hendrick Motorsports last season. No one loves you like JGR!!!!

Stewarts not the only possible free agent for 2009, Martin Truex, Jr. could be on the move. RCR maybe? Or will his former boss Dale Earnhardt, Jr. convince Hendrick Motorsports to make some room? Please Hendrick, I miss the Juniors being on the same team. (Sorry Casey!)

AJ Allmendinger will be back in Red Bull Racings No. 84 at Talladega this weekend.

Don't be fooled, Kyle Busch is not attempting to win a Championship in all three Nascar divisions. He just kind of is.

Do you know who this guy is? Because apparently he's been running under the radar.

Sad news, Cameron Argetsinger, "who started the road-racing tradition at Watkins Glen 60 years ago" has died at the age of 87.

News & Notes: Detroit took no prisoners on Wednesday kicking the 76ers 105-88. That's right Philly you got your win now make your off season plans because you're not going to be in it much longer. For more NBA playoff news click here...Oh, and Dwayne Wade is reportedly dating Star Jones. Good lord I hope there is some sort of typo in there...Pacman Jones was dealt to Dallas for a fourth round pick. If Jones does not get reinstated by the League, the Titans will give Dallas a fourth round pick...The NHL is profiting off their star annoyance Sean Avery reportedly getting Reebok to make new t-shirts that feature "Avery Rule" on it...Argentinean soccer stud Diego Maradona reportedly threw punches and insults at local reporters outside of a courthouse. I man after my own heart!

UPDATE: The Avery Rule t-shirts were a dream that will apparently never be realized. I can see some college student making in his/her basement right now!

Check this out: It could have been akward when Danica Patrick visited her former boss David Letterman last night, but it wasn't too bad. Click here to watch the interview.

Hump Day Hair

Last year, the New York Mets were hoping to turn around their early season struggles by collectively shaving their hair off. And this year, the Calgary Flames followed suit hoping that by getting Mohawks the team would be able to cruise through the playoffs and capture the Stanley Cup. Well just like the Mets, the hair transformation did not turn into playoff glory as the Flames were eliminated by the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday. (Dry those eyes Flames, at least you made it to the playoffs, the Mets fell apart with 17 games left in the regular season.) Well it just goes to show you haircutting will not bring you luck, but playoff beards, well that’s a different story.

Sean Avery's Hills

So apparently this summer Sean Avery will be interning at Vogue which reminded us of another famous Vogue intern, Lauren Conrad of the MTV reality hit The Hills. We figured it was only fair to cast Sean’s version of The Hills, or as we’re calling it, The Big Apple. (Working Title, or course!)

Lauren Conrad as now played by Sean Avery
Yeah, so this was kind of a gimme.

(Photo: mtv.com/nypost.com)

Heidi Montag as now played by Martin Brodeur
Heidi made her first appearance way back when Lauren was still on Laguna. She played Lauren’s new bestie whom she had met while at school in San Francisco. The pair then moved LA and became roommates dealing with boy issues and hair extensions they seemed like they’d never part until the evil Spencer entered the picture driving a wedge that thus far does not seem to be broken. And even though Spencer and Heidi are taking a break (on the show) Lauren and Heidi are still barely on speaking terms.

I doubt that Marty and Sean were every besties, but they’re hatred for each other grows with every game the Rangers play against the Devils. Marty hates Avery so much, he refused to shake his hand at the end of game 5 proving these two are far from patching things up.
(Photos: mtv.com/csa.com)

Lisa Love as now played by Anna Wintour
Lisa Love served as Lauren’s boss and West Coast Fashion Editor while the fashionista was interning at Teen Vogue. Love ruled with an iron fist and even mocked LC for her decision to pick Jason over Paris ("How did that work out?"), but eventually Lauren followed her co-worker Whitney Port to People's revolution (what a shocker) using her knowledge from internship to further her career. Oh yeah, and we totally think that Lauren's new boss Kelly makes Lisa Love look like the Easter bunny.

Love is probably no match for Vogue editrix Anna Wintour, whom Avery penned a compelling letter to get him the internship at the mag. Her boardroom style is so legendary it’s reportedly the basis for the popular novel The Devil Wears Prada. So buck up there Avery because it’s going to be a long summer with Wintour as your boss. (Oh and Sean, if you're wondering what a real intership at Teen Vogue is like, click here)
(Photos:Wire Image)

Stephen Colleti and co. as played by Elisha Cuthbert and co.
Lauren’s number of supposed paramours could actually rival Avery with her exes including Laguna Beach alumni like Stephen Colleti and Jason Wahler, buddy Brody Jenner, American Idol reject Chris Richardson, Desperate Housewives babe Shawn Pyfrom and Dukie Josh McRoberts. And you thought Avery’s black book that includes Elisha Cuthbert, Mary-Kate Olsen, Rachel Hunter, Lake Bell and designer Charlotte Ronson was large.

Baseball Update:

John Smoltz became the 16th player to ever record 3,000 strike outs, unfortunately, his team was not able to back him up as the Braves fell to the Nationals 6-0. Click here to watch Smoltz's reaction to reaching 3,000.
(Photo: Gregory Smith/AP)

Speaking of the Nationals, their closer Chad Cordero has an appointment with Dr. James Andrews. Yeah, that's never a good sign.

While ARod was celebrating the birth of his second daughter, the Yankees were cruising passed the White Sox, 9-5. Bobby Abreu registered a grand slam and Jorge Posada was finally back behind the plate.

Josh Beckett missed his scheduled start with a stiff neck, but that didn't bother the Red Sox who squeaked passed the Angels, 7-6.

C.C. Sabathia was back to his old ways in the Indians 15-1 killing of the Royals. The Indians will be without pitcher Jake Westbrook for at least the next 15 days after placing him on the DL with a strained muscle in his lower left ribcage.

The Tigers flipped Miguel Cabrera and Carlos Guillen in the infield on Tuesday night. And something clicked because Detroit won, routing the Rangers, 10-2.

It was a very weird day for Gabe Gross who scored the winning run for the Brewers in the 12th inning defeating the Cardinals 9-8 and was then traded to Tampa Bay.

The Pirates stopped their losing streak at six after narrowly defeating the Marlins 3-2.

The Rockies apparently sold their souls last year to the Devil and it seems like Lucifer is looking to collect after their bullpen blew another game in the closing games to give the Phillies 8-6 win.

The Rox also placed reliever Micah Bowie on the 15 day DL with a strained left forearm.

Barry Bonds must be so pissed with the Oakland A's reportedly interested in the services of the recently fired Frank Thomas.

Yeah he was a great pitcher, but turning the Texas Rangers around could prove to be Nolan Ryan's most difficult task to date.

Nascar Update:
Five drivers will show their burnout talents prior to the start of May's All-Star race at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Currently Clint Bowyer is the only driver to throw his hat into the ring.

Speaking of the All-Star race, Nascar historian Dale Earnhardt, Jr. would like to have an old timers event, kind of like what they have (had after this year) at Cooperstown.

Yahoo! Sports ranks the top 10 disappointments in Nascar over the last 10 years. Although if we had a vote, we'd also include some of those open wheel imports, anyone remember Christian Fittipaldi's foray in Nascar?

Just reading this article about Colin Braun made me feel old.

If the whole Office Depot thing doesn't work out for Carl Edwards, UPS would be happy to take their place.

Popo in my crib News:
Yesterday we brought you tons of popo news from the NFL, so it's only far that today we bring you news from the college ranks like Florida State's Preston Parker who was arrested late Monday and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and a small amount of marijuana. The .45 caliber pistol was placed next to the bag of weed in his car making the search process that much easier for the popo. Also making it easier was the fact that Parker copped to purchasing the gun for his friend's birthday. There are so many things wrong with that sentence, I mean who buys a gun as a birthday present. Here, be safe, try not to kill anyone at the club, it's too cliche. Watch out Preston, because the popo are on your tail!

Don't worry Preston, you weren't the only college student getting into legal troubles this week. Boston College's Brady Smith pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and breaking and entering with an intent to commit a felony. Details have not been released since Smith's arrest over the weekend, but we can't imagine they paint a nice picture of the Finksburg, MD native. Watch out Brady, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: The Flyers and the Sharks both advanced to the second round of the playoffs after wins on Tuesday. For the complete schedule of second round action click here...The Dolphins have killed all of the excitement of the draft announcing they have signed Jake Long to a contract insuring he'll be the number one pick...The Bengals would rather have a pouty star than what could amount to two first round picks after declining the Redskins offer for Chad Johnson...The Seahawks have dropped running back Shaun Alexander...Brendan Haywood will not be suspended for his "take down" of LeBron James on Monday...Former Sonics owner Howard Schultz has officially filed suit to rescind his sale of the Seattle Sonics after current Sonic ownership decided to move the team to Oklahoma City. I'm confused, wasn't the fact that the ownership was from Oklahoma City raise any red flags for you? Maybe you suffered from poor service at Starbucks like I did this morning which made you extra cranky kind of like me right now!..Finally, if you're planning on climbing Mt. Everest with your free Tibet flag, you may want to put the kibosh on that idea.

Brodeur has no respect for Avery

Much has been made about the Rangers Sean Avery’s feud with Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur culminating in Marty’s decision not to shake Avery’s hand following game 5 of the first round of Stanley Cup playoffs. On Monday, Brodeur talked with The Record about his post game actions saying that he did not respect Avery enough to shake his hand.
"Why should I have?" Brodeur asked. "When you shake hands, it's a sign of respect. That's what you're doing. I didn't respect the stuff he said. I respect him as a hockey player. He contributed big time [as a player], but the stuff that he said, a lot of it was pretty bad. It had no bearing on the game or anything."
But it seems like “he who shall not be named” (as Brodeur failed to call Avery by either of his given names) and the rest of the Rangers were able to rattle Brodeur's cage because he wasn’t quite himself during their five game playoff series. In any event “fatso” will have some extra time to think about Avery while he and the Devils enjoy their early vacation.

UPDATE: In Avery news, according to this he'll be interning at Vogue. I hope this is a belated April Fools joke, because even Lauren from The Hills has moved on from interning. Otherwise this must be made into a MTV reality show! (via Just Jared)

Inside the Park homerun

Baseball Update:
Jayson Werth's inside the park homerun helped the Phillies defeat the Rockies 9-5.

Speaking of the Phillies, Jimmy Rollins finally decided to go on the DL after a discussion with reliever J.C. Romero.

Micah Owings is proving he's not just a good hitter, he can also get it done on the mound notching his fourth win of the season in the Diamondbacks 4-2 win over the Giants.

Patriots Day in Boston gave fans a lot to cheer about with the Red Sox smashing the Rangers 8-3 and this guy just being an idiot.

The Giants also received some bad news, when pitcher Noah Lowry reported feeling a tingling sensation in his injured forearm. Lowry will undergo an MRI that will most likely push his return to the mound back.

The Mets kept it close until a diasterous 8th inning allowed the Cubs to score five runs in Chicago's 7-1 win.

The Braves made it five in a row with a 7-3 rocking of the Nationals. Chipper Jones did play on Monday, only one day after reinjuring his quad.

In other injury news, Alex Rodriguez is questionable for Tuesday's game against the White Sox with his strained right quadriceps...And Ben Sheets will miss his next start for the Brewers with a sore elbow.

Another Brewers starter, Jeff Suppan is introducing Soup's Troops, a partnership that will allow four active military personal or families of fallen solidiers to attend a Brewers homegame this season. Their $200 consession stand bill will be picked up by Jeff and his wife Dana. $200 consession, goodness how much does bratwurst cost? Or better yet, can I get a doggie bag?

The Astros beat up on the Padres giving San Diego a 10-3 loss.

Armando Galarraga is proving to be the early ace for the Detroit Tigers getting his second win of the season the Tigers 5-1 defeat of the Blue Jays.

Nascar Update:
46 drivers are on the entry list for this weekend's cup race at Talladega. Click here to see who's on the list.

Nascar heads to Talladega this weekend. Could that mean the end of Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s 70 race winless streak?

Jon Wood will attempt to race in both the Cup Series in Talladega (Alabama) and the Truck race in Kansas. We'll call this the poor man's Memorial Day weekend double.

Meanwhile, Kyle Busch is planning to skip the Truck Race this weekend.

Popo in my crib News:
Seahawks defensive lineman Rocky Bernard was arrested on Monday after a former girlfriend told the popo that Bernard had hit her with a closed fist, "causing her head to hit a glass divider" while the pair were at a local club. Bernard has not been charged but is currently under investigation for domestic violence assualt. Watch out Rocky, because the popo are on your tail.

Just a day prior, Colts running back Kenton Keith was arrested after failing to leave Cloud 9's parking lot. Keith repeated told police "I'm a Colts player," to which they responded uh-huh, sir, and I'm Santa Claus. Turns out Keith was telling the truth but unfortunately he was still arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, resisting law enforcement, public intoxication and contributing to the delinquency of a minor because he brought a 19 year old to the club with him. Keith was taken to a local jail and released on his on recognizance. Watch out Kenton, because the popo are on your tail!

Pacman Jones' Las Vegas strip club incident will not go away, after authorities were alerted that Jones had paid two installments of $15,000 to Arvin Kenti Edwards in an extortion plot. What is this some kind of extortion lay-a-way? Edwards was recently arrested in connection with the club shooting where allegedly opened fire. Jones went to Washington to identify the alleged shooter who was charged with three counts of attempted murder with a weapon and three counts of battery with substantial bodily harm. Watch out Arvin, because the popo are on your tail!

You think it's bad at Citizen's Bank Park, how about Shea

(NSFW: Language)

This past weekend a lot was made about the way the Mets players and their fans were treated while they were in Philadelphia for a three game series. Fans and players a like were reportedly heckled and fight between a Mets and Phillies fan apparently spilled over a railing. Reporters like The Bergen Record's Bob Klapish basically reprimanded Phillies fans for their actions, titling Sunday’s article “Phillie Fans Reach New Low,” (click here for the article) but it led me to wonder if he had ever attended a game at Shea.

About a week ago I attended the Mets/Phillies game at Shea Stadium, chronicled in my “More Things I Learned at Shea” post (#6). I alluded to the fact that the Mets fans were far from being on their best behavior, making a joke of the situation because at the heart of it, I understand Mets fans' frustration with the way things turned out last season and the fact the Phillies were the team that swept them down the stretch and in their eyes stole their NL East title away. I made light of the situation. I in affect downgraded it, because as a Braves fan in a Mets dominated world, I had witnessed their poor sportsmanship in droves before. But following The Record article, I felt it was best to defend the actions of Phillies faithful because after all, Phillies fans were treated to the same sort of unwelcomedness that Mets fans discovered last weekend.

On April 10th I had my first baseball outing of the season. I was super excited for the start of a new season and was happy to make my way on the 7 train out to Shea for what is the Mets final season at the 40 + year old ballpark. As I awaited my friends to go into the Stadium I saw a mix of Mets and Phillies fans peacefully walking down from the Subway exit making their way to the entrances of the Stadium. No dirty looks exchanged, no inappropriate chants broke out and no signs of rivalry that echoes through the Bronx when the Red Sox come to town to play the Yankees. All and all, an inauspicious start to the game. But that all changed rapidly as I sat down in my seats. The game was like most Phillies/Mets games I attend, exciting, with the Mets taking an early 3-0 only to see it evaporate off the bats of Ryan Howard and Pedro Feliz. As the game tightened up, so did the hostility in the crowd. A group of proud Phillies fans began to be berated by frustrated Mets fans. Chants of “asshole” broke out as Phillies fans did all they could do to not seem flustered. I have never witnessed a verbal assault at Shea as I did on that night. And while it never became physical it was never appropriate either. The police were even brought in to settle down the raucous crowd. And for the remainder of the game, anytime a fan wearing Phillies gear got up to just run over to the concession stand or restrooms, the crowd would roar with the “asshole” chant. When they weren't directing their frustrations at single fans they were yelling "Phillies Suck" instead of the "Let's Go Mets" that was flashing on the scoreboard. Hardly the friendly environment the New York area media would make it seem.

I don’t mean to insinuate that what Phillies fans reportedly did this weekend was ok. But I do want to point out that it wasn’t like the Mets fans were much nicer just a week prior. Rivalries are rivalries and very important to the sport but increased hostility by fans in my mind only negates the excitement of playing against your most hated teams. Friends who attended the game with me on that fateful night who are die-hard Phillies fans have said they will not go back to Shea to see a game because of the way they were treated and the way we saw other Phillies fans were treated. They’d rather drive down the NJ turnpike 2 and a half hours to catch the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park than be treated the way they were at Shea. That ruins the fun of baseball for everyone.

On the flip side I will say in my life I’ve met a lot of really great Mets fans. Usually I get razzed by them for wearing my John Smoltz tee when the Braves are in town. But it’s always in good fun. We trade barbs but they are always about the teams they never get personal. “Oh that John Smoltz is old,” they’ll tell me, which I will respond with, “So like El Duque is young?” Or if the Mets homer they’ll say something like, I bet you wish you had Carlos Beltran on your team, to which I would respond with I’ll keep Andruw Jones (before his departure of course.) Even the night I was at Shea the guys behind us pointed out the Phillies 10,000 losses, which we responded with 17 games. We had a great time chatting them up. They were a lot of fun, like I would say 90% of the Mets fans at the game were. But like everything else, the 10% who were downright nasty, left a sour taste in our mouths.

I just wanted to point my experience out because it’s not just Phillies fans that are being inappropriate, it’s Mets fans, it’s Yankees fans, it’s Red Sox fans, it’s a lot a different fans who take their love of their team way to far. Baseball is sport for everyone to enjoy. Remember that the next time you go to a game!

Put the Broom Away

Baseball Update:
Are the Yankees panicking? Seems so when co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner flipped saying Joba Chamberlain should be starting RIGHT NOW! Yeah, so Ian Kennedy and Phil Hughes aren't doing as well as expected, but their practically kids, give them time and they'll get better. Or just buy some good players from the Royals or something.

The Yankees did beat the Orioles 7-1 avoiding a sweep by Baltimore. But ARod left the game early with a quad injury.

The Bombers will also be without reliever Kyle Farnsworth who was supsended by Major League Baseball for three games after throwing behind Manny Ramirez in the Yanks win over Boston on Thursday.

The Braves pulled off a sweep of their own with a 6-1 victory over the Dodgers. But like the Yankees, the Braves lost their third baseman Chipper Jones with a right quad injury.

The Phillies held off a sweep by the Mets with their 5-4 victory. Chase Utley (2) and Pedro Feliz drove in all five runs with homers.

The Phillies did put 2007 MVP Jimmy Rollins on the DL with an ankle injury. Rollins had not started a game in 10 trys but was used as a pinch hitter on Saturday, so the Phils could not place him retroactively to the date of his injury.

Both the Twins and Reds needed an extra inning to win their respective games over the Indians and Brewers.

The San Diego Padres batted around Randy Johnson and the Arizona Diamondbacks for a 9-4 win.

The Astros placed ace Wandy Rodriguez on the DL with a groin injury. Too bad because he was one of the few bright spots on my fantasy team.

The Royals cut Hideo Nomo while the Blue Jays said goodbye to Frank Thomas.

The Rays signed super prospect Evan Longoria to a six year deal worth $17.5 million after only six days in the Majors. The deal could be worth up to $44 million and includes three option years for Tampa Bay.

Shoeless Joe Jackson's signature "Black Betsy" game bat could sell between $200,000-$300,000 at a Sotheby's and SCP Auction.

Sad news, former Mariners catcher John Marzano died on Saturday after falling down a flight of stairs. He was only 45.

Nascar Update:
Congratulations to Kyle Busch on winning his third straight Nationwide Series race on Sunday.

Boris Said is probably not going to be sending Marcus Ambrose a Christmas card this year.

Nascar will integrate the COT into the Nationwide Series mid-2009. Great so we'll have to series for drivers to complain about.

Kenny Schrader will be back in a Cup car this weekend in Talladega after announcing he'll be racing in the Haas CNC Racing #70.

Chrissy Wallace has signed a deal with Germain Racing which will put her in the Rookie of the Year hunt in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2009. She'll also run six races for the team this season.

Shocking news, Sam Hornish, Jr. will not race in the Indy 500. When I say shocking I mean painfully predictable. And too bad, because I miss seeing Hornish actually succeeding in racing.

News & Notes: Congratulations to IRL's first lady Danica Patrick on getting her first victory in the Open Wheel Series. Patrick becomes the first female to ever do so in the IndyCar...Congratulations also goes out to Will Power on winning the final Champ Car Race this weekend (PS who names their kid Will Power?)...The NHL will have a new champ after the Ducks were elimnated from the Stanley Cup playoffs with their 4-1 loss to the Stars...The Red Wings ousted the Predators with a 3-0 shutout...The Flames force a game seven with a 2-0 victory over the Sharks...Philadelphia was a big shocker beating the Detroit Pistons 90-86 to a take a 1-0 series lead. For more NBA playoff scores click here...Congrats to Giants star Eli Manning and his new bride Abby McGraw on their weekend nuptials...Roger Federer's dry spell is over after winning his first title of the year at the Estoril Open.

Mets pitcher has crush on a Friend

Last year, Mets pitcher John Maine made our version of the all-star team as much because of his boyish good looks as his impressive first half of last year. But as it turns out Maine only has eyes for former Friends star Jennifer Aniston. But the best part of this story is that he thinks one of her best features is her own mane, saying of his crush on the blonde beauty “I just love her soft and natural, girl-next-door looks and the way she carries herself, her whole demeanor. Oh, yes, the hair. The hair is unbelievable!” Looks like John shares our similiar obsession of hair. Could he be a more perfect match?

Yankees not Happy with Manny being Manny

Manny Ramirez's stop and stare approach to hitting homeruns was not appreciated by the New York Yankees on Thursday who had to watch Manny watch his homerun twice in the first three innings. So the team decided to give him a little payback by having Kyle Farnsworth throw behind him in the seventh inning. Although the move was not unprecendented, in fact the Red Sox had done it to Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez the night before however, Farnsworth claimed the ball "just slipped" but Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia wasn't buying that story saying "He throws 100 mph. That's career-ending if it hits him." Although that's thinking that Farnsworth has some sort of control and as any Yankee fan will tell you, that's not usually the case with ol' Kyle. This lastest dust up reaffirms that indeed these two teams do actually hate each other and that little spat between the Yankees and Rays is over, because the Bronx Bombers only have eyes for one true rivalry and that's with the Sox. Too bad the teams aren't playing each other tonight, because I could see a bench clearing brawl in the works.

Keep the popemobile off the Grass

Baseball Update:
It seems the Pope's visit to New York blessed the Mets not the Yankees on Thursday. The Mets pulled off a 3-2 win over the Nationals off of a wild pitch in the 14th inning. Wait a minute, didn't that same scenario happen the day before?

Meanwhile the Yankees' starter Mike Mussina got no loving from the Red Sox after being pulled in the third. The Red Sox went on to win 7-5.

The Mets weren't the only team to go into extras on Thursday, the Rockies and Padres literally played over two and third games with the Rockies edging the Padres 2-1 in the 22nd inning...The Orioles nipped the White Sox 6-5 (10)...And the Brewers tagged the Cardinals 5-3 (10).

Prince Fielder finally hit a homerun in the Brewers win. Does this mean he's back on the red meat?

It was also a night of redemption as the Braves avoided a sweep with a 8-0 win over the Marlins...And the Indians battered the Tigers 11-1.

DL News: The Braves who placed reliever Peter Moylan on the DL could be without him for the rest of the season...The Phillies are not putting Jimmy Rollins on the DL...The Rangers placed outfielder Marlon Byrd on the 15 day DL with inflammation in his left knee...The Blue Jays placed reliever Brian Wolfe on the 15 day DL with a right triceps strain...And The Royals placed John Bale on the DL.

The A's move to Fremont will reportedly be delayed until 2012. It's like the A's are the Nets of California!

The David Ortiz jersey that was placed in the concrete of Yankee Stadium before being removed will go up for auction by the Jimmy Fund. Like you didn't see that coming.

Some people are not too happen with the Kansas City T-Bones' "Welcome to the Neighborhood" night at their Community/America Ballpark. The night is in honor of Leavenworth, Kan inmate Michael Vick. Some people just have no sense of humor.

NASCAR Update:
While the Cup Series is away, the Nationwide Series will play this weekend in Mexico City. Catch all the action live on ESPN2 at 1:30 PM/est.

Even though Jeremy Mayfield was recently replaced he is confident in his future.

Dale Earnhardt Inc. has announced it will once again hold Dale Earnhardt day at the corporate headquarters in Mooresville, NC. This years fest will run from 9AM to 7 PM/est on April 29th.

Nascar announced fans will once again be able to vote in one driver into the Nascar All-Star race in May. Eligible drivers include former champions, past winners of the race and any driver who has won a race in 2007 or 2008.

News & Notes: The Flyers move themselves into position to clinch a second round birth with their 4-3 double OT win over the Capitals...The Bruins force a game 6 with their 5-1 killing of the Habs...The Stars 3-1 win puts the reigning champs the Ducks on the verge of elimination...The Sharks break the series tie with the Flames with a 4-3 win. San Jose is now just one win away from moving onto the next round...Has Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland let the cat out of the bag?...Steve McNair announced his retirement after 13 years in the League...Meanwhile another Quarterback has something to celebrate. The Giants Eli Manning is reportedly marrying his college sweatheart Abby McGrew this weekend in Mexico. Congrats to the happy couple...Two NBA coaches got the axe as the Bulls fired interim coach Jim Boylan and the Bucks let Larry Krystowiak go...Could Isiah Thomas be the next coach fired? A report says he will...Draft update: UCLA's Kevin Love and Kansas' Brandon Rush and Darrell Arthur are entering the draft, while Kanas' Mario Chalmers is debating the idea...In more stupid things our government is doing with our tax payer money news, lawmakers are asking for a probe into whether college football's Bowl Championship Series is an illegal enterprise. LEAVE SPORTS ALONE!!! Concentrate on more important things like the gas crisis, the banking crisis, the housing crisis and maybe throw in education and healthcare.

Check this out: We are so excited it's Friday because there is finally a movie in theaters we are totally stoked about. It's called "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and it stars some of our favorites like Jason Seagel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis and Paul Rudd. The reviews are amazing so we're begging you to drop whatever your plans were this weekend and go see this movie. And if you're celebrating Passover this weekend, don't forget to bring your motzah!
