Straight to the DL

Baseball Update:
It was a day of surprises at Fenway Park as former goat Bill Buckner received a standing ovation when he threw out the first pitch prior to the Red Sox 5-0 victory over the Tigers. The Tigers are now 0-7, certainly not the team you thought would open the season winless.

In his final start before undergoing cancer surgery, Doug Davis valiently put a two run six inning outting that helped give the Diamondbacks a 10-5 victory over the Dodgers. We here at PIMC want to wish Davis the best of luck during his battle with thyroid cancer and hope to see him back on the mound soon!

Things did not go well for the Braves on Tuesday, they lost to the Rockies 4-3 and they also lost top prospect Jordan Schafer for 50 games after it was found he violated MLB drug policy. Well there's a little more job security for you, Mr. Kotsay.

Braves legend Hank Aaron lost his mother Estella Aaron. Our condonlences go out to the family.

The Phillies rallied late to beat the Mets 5-2. Two is also the number of times Chase Utley was hit during the game.

DL Round-up: The Nationals have placed Dimtri Young on the 15 DL with a lower back sprain while activating catcher Johnny Estrada...The Padres placed catcher Michael Barrett on the DL with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. I think I just got a finger sprain from typing that. While he'll avoid surgery, he could be out for two months.

Not only are the A's being traded away, they are also being lost to injury after Oakland placed Justin Duchscherer on the 15 day DL with an inflamed biceps and held Rich Harden from his scheduled start with a strained muscle. They did, however, pull out a close 9-8 win over the Blue Jays.

Good news, bad news, more bad news for the Rays, Scott Kazmir threw a 42 pitch bullpen sesson, but they lost to the Mariners, 6-5 and they put Matt Garza on the DL.

The list of injured Yankees are piling up (although one could say that's what happens with old age) as Jorge Posada has joined Derek Jeter in the nurses station with a "dead arm." ARod stuck out 4 times in the Yanks 5-2 loss to the Royals, so that's like a mental injury, right?

Francisco Cordero is letting it be known that the Brewers did have shot to overpay, I mean sign him. But instead they let him walk to Cincinnati, where on Saturday he picked up the win for the team and on Tuesday, his replacement Eric Gagne blew the lead before the Brewers came back to beat Mr. Cordero's Reds 3-2 in the 10th.

If they aren't complaining about helmets, base coaches are complaining about being boxed in.

On April 15th, MLB will once again celebrate Jackie Robinson Day. Commissioner Bud Selig has said that anyone who would like to can wear the #42.

Nascar Update:
Remember last year when Aaron Fike and his fiancee got arrested in a Six Flags parking lot with heroin? Well, Mr. Fike, who is currently suspended by Nascar, is coming clean saying he used heroin on racedays. I'm glad he's coming clean but that is a cardinal sin in racing, you don't put your competitors in danger for your stupid actions.

Ryan Newman and Penske Racing were docked 25 points and his crew chief Roy McCauley was fined $25,000 for failing to pass post race inspection. I'm so confused, why isn't it $100,000 and 100 points?

Bill Davis Racing has sued sponsor 360 OTC for non-payment. In the suit, BDR claims 360 has only paid $25,000 of the $14 million is was supposed to pay. Yeah, but did they knock off funds for races missed? Because then, that seems about right.

Stewart Cooper will be the new crew chief for Petty Enterprises #45 car.

Juan Pablo Montoya isn't completely on board with owner Chip Ganassi's tough assement of the Ganassi Racing.

News & Notes: Congrats to the Tennessee Lady Vols on defeating Stanford 64-48 to take the women's crown...After wining the National Title on Monday, all Bill Self wants is job security and maybe a all-expenses paid trip to Disney World. But I'm thinking job security is a bit higher on the list...UCLA will be losing some big guns if reports are true that Kevin Love and Darren Collison will go pro. Honestly, I think these kids should stay in school until they are 21 and able to handle the pressures of being in the NBA...The Nuggets 117-99 win over the Clippers is keeping them in pace for the 8th spot in the West. Oh if only Denver was say in North Carolina, then they'd have nothing to worry about...Besides kicking the ball wide right, this maybe the only time a kicker will make headlines. Ravens' kicker Matt Stover has begun a campaing to outst current players union executive director Gene Upshaw by next March...Venus Williams is taking an indefinate leave of absence. No reason has been announced...Helio Castroneves dancing partner Julianne Hough on "Dancing with the Stars" will sing the national anthem at this year's Indy 500. And that my friends is what we call synergy.

Check this out: Big "Friday Night Lights" news...on last week NBC let it slip that "Friday Night Ligths" will be back next season for 13 episodes. They will air first on DirectTV in the fall before repeating on NBC in the winter. So the good news is there will be more "Friday Night Lights", the bad news, there will only be 13 episodes. Well if you combine seasons 2&3 it's like a full season right? For an interview with show runner Jason Katims, click here.

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
