Schaefer just the tip of the iceberg for new MLB investigative unit

Baseball’s new investigative arm The Department of Investigation, established in January at the suggestion of the Mitchell Report, is working on some big projects, including cracking the big business of identity theft.
"Jeter, Derek, you're license is ready for pick-up." "Wow, Der...hey, you're not Derek Jeter." "Yeah I know, I get that all the time, we just share the same name...Birthdate...social...skills..."
Other ideas in the pipeline include figuring out what evidence the government has before it releases it. Hey, I bet I know some one that might want that kind of information, Barry Bonds. They hope that by conducting its own investigations it can quit being surprised at all those darn congressional hearings they keep going to.

And as the Braves can attest, the new unit has been successful. In April, the League suspended super prospect Jordan Schafer for 50 games for his HGH use. The Department hope to continue to find more drug users, suppliers and illegal immigrants posing as professional baseball players in the future. It's like a regular one stop criminal processing center or major league training facility in South America, whichever you want to look at it. I prefer county booking myself.
