While you were being blessed, DC...

Baseball Update:
Tommy Lasorda is scheduled to greet the Pope on Wednesday. The Pope is doing the old baseball stadium tour this week with stops at the Nationals new ballpark and Yankee Stadium. Who knew he was such a big baseball fan?

Foxsports is taking a sports view of the Pope's visit.

And the 10 spot adds its own spin on the Pope's upcoming visit to Yankee Stadium.

Yesterday MLB celebrated Jackie Robinson with Jackie Robinson Day. Players were encouraged to wear the #42 which is the only number retired throughout baseball. The entire Mets team turned up in the famous number in their 6-0 defeat of the Nationals.

The game also marked the first time Lastings Milledge and Paul Lo Duca played against their former team the Mets (although Lo Duca really just watched the game from the bench) and Ryan Church and Brian Schiender played against their old team, the Nats. Lo Duca and David Wright seemed to have a joyous reunion and we're still waiting on their after game explotes, which were probably legen...wait for it...dary!

There was some sad news out of Queens, a Met fan was killed after losing his balance on an escalator at Shea Stadium and falling two stories onto a concrete floor. Antonio Nararainsami was just 36 years old. Lawsuit party of one...

The Tigers are looking like the team of old after staging a rally in the eighth inning to beat the Twins 6-5. Wow a two game win streak, that's got to be like record or something for them.

Update your fantasy teams kids because both the Indians closer Joe Borowski and Mariners starter Erik Bedard have made their way to the DL. Plus Alfonso Soriano could be heading that way after leaving the Cubs game in the first inning on Tuesday with a calf injury.

John Danks celebrated his 23rd birthday with a win, in the White Sox 4-1 victory over the A's.

Danks' teammate Jim Thome received a one game suspension for his "inappropriate actions" during a game agains the Detroit Tigers last week.

Jed Lowrie drove in three runs in his major league debut and Jason Varitek added a pinch hit homerun in the Red Sox 5-3 win over the Indians.

Randy Wolf loses his bid at a no-hitter in the seventh but was still able to pull out a win in the Padres 6-0 blanking of the Rockies.

The Milwaukee Brewers are close to putting together a deal to bring on right-hander Jeff Weaver. Just for his amazing hair alone, I'm all for this deal!

A settlement has been reached between ESPN and former baseball analyst Harold Reynolds over his firing.

Nascar Update:
In hopes of getting his team back on track, Ganassi Racing has swapped crew chiefs from the #42 car driven by Juan Pablo Montoya (Donny Wingo) and the #41 car driven by Reed Sorenson (Jimmy Elledge).

David Stremme, who last competed in the Cup Series in the #40 Dodge for Chip Ganassi (who is probably kicking himself for bringing in Dario too quickly) says he's just looking for the right opportunity to stage his comeback.

BAM Racing which has pulled its #49 car from regular starts in the Cup Series, says it will not return until the fall. This just highlights the fact of how difficult it is being in a one car team in a multi-car world. And puts into prespective how impressive Robby Gordon's team continues to be even though they are sitting in 29th place.

Nascar will add a test at Lowe's Motor Speedway for all Sprint Cup teams on May 5-6.

Popo in my crib News:
Good news for Dontrelle Willis, he was able to plead to the lesser charge of reckless driving this week. The guilty plea stems from a December 2006 incident when a drunken Willis decided to make the sidewalk his on personal port-a-john. With the reckless driving plea, he is able to keep his license, but must still perform 50 hours of community service and pay a fine of $761. With his current status on the disabled list, there is never a better time to teach the underprivileged kids of Detroit about baseball and life and probably to tell them it's not a good idea to drink and drive. Especially at about ten, because you'd break too many laws, you know underage drinking, driving without a license, etc... Watch out Dontrelle, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: The Ducks were finally able to pull off a win against the Stars, 4-2, to make the put them just one game behind in the series...The Avalanche tied up the series at 2-2 with their 5-1 win over the Wild...The Sharks put out the Flames 3-2 and tying up the series at two games a piece...The Canadiens shut-out the Bruins 1-0 to take a three games to one advantage...The Flyers sored passed the Capitals 6-3. Philadelphia leads the series 2-1...Carmelo Anthony is sorry for his DUI arrest and that he received preferencial treatment. Also he and his fiancee former MTV VJ LaLa are not having troubles. I mean who would leave their sugar daddy at the popo station?...Sources say Kevin Love will indeed declare for the NBA draft about a week after rumblings were squashed...Memphis freshamn Derrick Rose will enter the NBA draft...But John Calipari is staying put for the forseeable future...It's getting feisty in Washington following the impending relocation of the Sonics to Oklahoma City. A former owner Howard Schultz (aka the greatest man alive aka CEO of Starbucks) is suing to regain ownership of the team and now the Governor of Washington State is getting involved. Maybe it would have been better if these moves would have happened say two years ago... Pacman Jones has delayed an appeal to be reinstated by the NFL until a trade can be worked out. So the team that takes him is going off of blind faith that he'll be reinstated. Because if I were Roger Goodell, I would make Pacman sweat, not reinstating him until the night before his first game...Tiger Woods will undergo knee surgery putting him out of commission for at least four weeks.

It's been fun blogging with you,
