Baseball Update:
Major League Baseball will celebrate Jackie Robinson's 61st anniversary of breaking of the color line with the second annual Jackie Robinson Day. Players are encouraged to wear the #42 to honor Jackie while the Mets will dedicate the Jackie Robinson Rotunda at their new stadium CitiField.
Major League Baseball also announced they will donate $1.2 million to the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
The Yankees saw the return of the captian Derek Jeter to their lineup after a six day absence. But it was Robinson Cano who played hero with a solo homerun in the Yanks 8-7 win over the Rays.
Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain was placed on the bereavement list after his father Harlan collapsed on Sunday night. Harlan is in critical but stable condition in a Nebraska area hospital. Chamberlain will miss at least three games to be with his father. Our well wishes go out to the Harlan.
Good news for the Rays, Scott Kazmir threw 25 pitches in an extended spring training game.
The Red Sox rallied to beat the Indians, 6-4, thanks to a Manny Ramirez homerun in the ninth.
In other late game heroics news, Nate McClouth's ninth inning homerun pushed the Pirates passed the Dodgers 6-4.
Randy Johnson's return was spoiled by the Giants 5-4 win.
The Tigers marched back notching six runs in the eighth inning to beat the Twins 11-9. The win was their first at home this season.
Congratulations to A's pitcher Greg Smith on picking up his first career win, a 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Here's some random news, apparently Carlos Zambrano has quite an addiction to caffeine. Don't worry, I share a similiar plight.
I don't know if you've noticed but the teams that should be losing are sitting atop the stadings (yeah we're talking about you Baltimore, Oakland and Florida) yet teams that should be winning are losing (Detroit, can you hear me now?). There's barely any explanation for these early season surpries. Except maybe when there are no expectations, it's easier to exceed? USAToday looks into here.
Sad news, former Boston Braves and Brooklyn Dodger player Tommy Holmes died at the age of 91.
Nascar Update:
This weekend the Cup boys are off, but the Nationwide Series is heading south of the boarder for their annual race in Mexico City. 48 names are on the entry list. Click here to see who they are.
Texas Ratings were down 3.6 percent. This season the ratings started high in Daytona but have quickly retreated as the races have wore on.
Rick Hendrick says the team chemistry is better than ever. Which seems to be great for Dale Earnhardt, Jr., very good for Jimmie Johnson, not so hot for Jeff Gordon, and really bad for Casey Mears.
Popo in my crib News:
Carmelo Anthony is making news, and not the good kind, after being pulled over early Monday morning on suspicion of drunken driving. It seems Mr. Anthony may have been drowning his sorrows after a fairly poor game but unfortunately, he only made the situation worse, way worse. Melo has been charged with DUI. Watch out Carmelo, because the popo are on your tail!
