Baseball Update:
A day after the Brewers landed CC Sabathia, the Cubs have fired back picking up Rich Harden and reliever Chad Gaudin from the A's for Sean Gallagher, Matt Murton, Eric Patterson and Josh Donaldson. And to cap off the night they beat the Reds, 7-3.
Speaking of CC (notice the lack of "." in between the C's), he had an interesting debut with the Brewers but was able to pick up the win, as the Brew Crew rolled by the Rockies, 7-3.
After being one hit on Monday, the Braves bounced back in a big way with their 9-3 defeat of the Dodgers. Jeff Francoeur made his first appearance on the team since being sent down to Double A Mississippi on Friday.
The Mets roughed up SI coverboy Tim Lincecum on Tuesday night. Carlos Beltran hit a three run homer in the first followed by a solo shot by Carlos Delgado in the sixth giving the Mets a 4-0 lead and they never looked back, blanking the Giants, 7-0. For my pictures from the game, click here.
The Mets placed outfielder Ryan Church on the DL after failing to properly recover from his second concussion of the season. Head injuries are a funny thing and you certianly don't want to mess around with them.
With the win and the Phillies 2-0 loss to the Cardinals, the standings in the NL got a little bit closer.
Across town, the Yankees were delievering a shut-out of their own. Andy Pettitte was brillant for eight innings, while Derek Jeter backed him up at the plate and in the field, in the Yanks 5-0 victory over the Rays.
I'm a bit over the whole Madonna/A-Rod relationship thing, but I did want to share this with you guys. I mean you've made it when Time Magazine writes an article about your alleged infidelity.
The Red Sox rallied past the surging Twins thanks in part to a two run homer by the suddenly streaking Manny Ramirez in the eighth to pick up the 6-5 win.
In other good Sox news, David Ortiz reported no pain after taking batting practice on Monday.
Miguel Cabrera lifted two homers as the Tigers cruised passed the Indians, 9-2. Marcus Thames' and Ivan Rodriguez added blasts of their own in the win. Meanwhile, pitcher Dontrelle Willis underwent an MRI that revealed the ace has tendinitis in his right knee. Willis received a cortisone shot and a brace for his troubles.
Following a rain shower that flooded much of Kauffman Stadium, the White Sox were able to edge the Royals, 8-7 in a wild battle between the two AL Central teams that lasted 13 innings.
Justin Duchscherer's two hit shut-out against the Mariners gives hope to A's fans who just hours prior saw Rich Harden be sent to the Cubs. Duschscherer faced only three batters of the mininium in the 2-0 win.
After failing to make the All-Star team, Vladimir Guerrero has decided not to participate in the homerun derby, an event he won in 2007. Ryan Braun, however, was added to the list which includes Josh Hamilton, Chase Utley, Dan Uggla, Grady Sizemore and Lance Berkman. Two more AL players have yet to be announced, but Jason Giambi said he'd be happy to participate if he is voted in by the fans.
Speaking of the final vote, you've got until Thursday (aka TOMORROW) to vote in the final AL and NL player. Corey Hart of the Brewers and Evan Longoria of the Rays are currently leading the vote, but it's still anyone's spot so don't forget to vote. And if you're on the fence vote Aaron Rowand for the NL spot!
And for those players that have already made the All-Star teams, they could see a little boost in their paychecks this week. Roy Halladay, for example will earn an additional $125,000 and Cliff Lee will get $100,000 for being named to the team. Meanwhile Chipper Jones' 2009 salary will increase by $2 million while Grady Sizemore will get an additional $500,000 in 2012.
Nascar Update:

Tony Stewart is expected to announce he has been released of his final contract year with Joe Gibbs Racing on Tuesday before announcing he'll be moving to Haas CNC on Wednesday. Stewarts will buy out 50% of Haas for the 2009 season and the team will be renamed Stewart Haas Racing.
Even Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is not immune to these harsh economic times. The Navy is expected to end its sponsorship deal with Junior's #88 Nationwide Series team at the year's end.
Juan Pablo Montoya says he supports Chip Ganassi's decision to shut down the #40 operation. Of course he supports it, he's just happy they didn't shut down the #42 operation!
Former Ganassi employee Jimmy Elledge is expected to take over crew chiefing duties for the #84 Red Bull Racing Toyota driven by A.J. Allmendinger.
News&Notes: Brett Farve may not be over playing after all. He has been reportedly texting the Packers. Who is he, Kelvin Sampson?...It's funny what a dog fighting ring and a trip to Levenworth can do to your bank account. Just ask Michael Vick who has filed for bankruptcy...Former West Virginia football coach Rich Rodriguez has agreed to pay the university $4 million...Corey Maggette is likely to sign a five year deal with the Warriors worth $50 million...Meanwhile, another former Dukie Elton Brand looks to be headed to Philly.
Check this out: My favorite TV show "Friday Night Lights" will be two full time cast members shorter for season three after Gaius Charles (Smash) and Scott Porter (Jason Porter) have been let out of their contracts. Jason Katims has promised that both actors will make appearances this season and their storylines will be wrapped up properly. Admittedly, I don't really have a problem with Jason Street leaving, he seemed like a part timer in season 2 anyway, but Smash man, he was so awesome last season, it's a shame he won't be a regular player this year!
It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
