And we're off...

Baseball Update:
Injury Updates: Johnny Damon hopes to rejoin the Yankees by late next week, while the Tigers Magglio Ordonez is set to be activated off the DL prior to Thursday's game and Florida's Sergio Mitre will undergo Tommy John surgery forcing him to miss the next 12-16 months.

Troy Tulowitzki played seven innings in a rehab start for the Double-A Tulsa team. Tulo was placed on the DL after slamming his bat into the ground causing it to splinter and cut his hand. He needed 16 stitches to close up the cut.

The final regular season game (although it's looking more and more like it will be the final game) at Yankee Stadium will be televised by ESPN as part of their Sunday night baseball package. Tickets are selling on Stubhub for as much as $65,000.

Speaking of the house that ruth built, the ratings for the All-Star game were up 11%. Check back later today for my Things I learned at the Homerun Derby and All-Star Game! Which didn't include the little fact that if the game had continued the NL would have brought out David Wright to pitch and the AL would have brought MVP J.D. Drew to the mound. I'm a little upset that I missed that.

Ah, the Clemens saga continues, but alas I could care less. If you want to read the latest click here.

The Minor Leagues have the best promotions people around. Take for example the Grand Prairie AirHogs who hosted A-Rod night that included A-Rod and C-Rod look alikes between innings and blasted Madonna music during the game. They also offered dollar tickets to anyone wearing an A-Rod jersey or were dressed like Madonna. Love it!

Fidel Castro has blasted the Olympics for dropping baseball beginning with the games in 2012.

The US has announced their U.S. Baseball Team which will be heading to the Beijing Olympics. Stephen Strasburg of San Diego State was the lone college player selected. The rest of the team including Matt LaPorta who was part of the CC Sabathia trade, are from the minors.

Congrats to Florida State's Buster Posey who won the USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award. In June he was drafted by the San Francisco Giants.

Nascar Update:
The Cups guys are off this weekend giving the Nationwide and Trucks Series a chance to shine. And no one is more excited about that than Mike Wallace who is hoping to win at his home track Gateway. But that's just part of his weekend schedule.

With it's financial troubles well documented, General Motors has decided to cut back it's spending in Nascar.

J.J. Yeley water bottle was the center of focus for Nascar at Chicagoland. Click here to find out why.

Sitting in second 183 points behind Clint Bowyer in the Nationwide Series has made 2008 a great year for Brad Keselowski.

News&Notes: Welterweight Oscar Diaz was taken to the hospital after collapsing following the 10th round of a TKO loss to Delvin Rodriguez on Wednesday. He was rushed into surgery to relieve swelling on his brain...Terry Murray is expected to be announced the new head coach for the L.A. Kings...The Oilers signed Shawn Horcoff to a six-year, $33 million contract extension...The Packers have filed tampering charges against the Minnesota Vikings in connections with Brett Farve...This is getting pathetic, Team Saunier-Duval withdrew from the Tour de France after rider Riccardo Ricco tested positive for the banned EPO. He became the third rider to test positive for a banned substance. I think the Tour needs adopt a new three strikes and your out policy.

Check this out: Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin owns the greatest restaurant ever. It's has a prison theme but does not sell prison food, making it the official restaurant of popo in my crib. Only one small problem...it's in Russia. To read more click here.

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
