Trade Deadline closing in, teams start to deal

I'm a little pressed for time today, but I did want to update the big trades that took place this weekend.

Xavier Nady to the Yankees
With the injury to Hideki Matsui and Jorge Posada, the Yanks were in need of a right hand bat and Nady was a perfect fit. Included in the deal with the Pirates the Yankees also acquired reliever Damaso Marte for outfield prospect Jose Tabata and right handers Dan McCutchen, Jeff Karstens and Ross Ohlendorf. To make room for their newest members, the Yankees sent Brett Gardner to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and designated LaTroy Hawkins.

Casey Blake to the Dodgers
The Dodgers have needed a third baseman for most of the year so Casey Blake became the best rental option for LA. Blake, who is making $6.1 million and will be a free agent at the end of the year, was sent to the Dodgers for Triple-A pitcher Jon Meloan and Class A catcher Carlos Santana.

Anthony Reyes to the Indians
Reyes was once considered a top prospect in the Cardinals organization, but he never fulfilled his promise and the Cards finally dealt him to the Indians for Minor League reliever Luis Perdomo and cash.

Be on the Look Out: The Jarrod Washburn/Yankees deal is still a hot topic but Cashman isn't too sure it's going to happen...Mark Teixeira's tenure with the Braves looks to be coming to a close, but if he's going to Arizona, Conor Jackson will have to be a part of the deal...Manny Ramirez is daring the Red Sox to trade him.

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
