Friday, kids Friday!

Baseball Update:
David Wright hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning to help give the Mets their 10th straight win. With the Phillies being idle, 10-8 the win over the Reds has tied New York for first in the NL East.

The Mets will push back Pedro Martinez's next start after the ace received a cortisone shot to help heal his injured groin.

The Phillies have acquired starter Joe Blanton from the Oakland A's for minor leaguers Adrian Cardenas, Josh Outman and Matthew Spencer.

Jake Peavy gave up four homers including two to Troy Glaus as the Padres fell to the Cardinals, 4-3. Rick Ankiel and Joe Mather added solo shots of their own.

The Diamondbacks have aquired first baseman Tony Clark from the San Diego Padres for minor league pitcher Evan Scribner.

Brian Fuentes picked up his 100th career save, while Chris Iannetta hit a broken bat two run homer in the Rockies 5-3 victory over the Pirates.

The Tigers reached .500 with their 6-5 defeat of the Orioles. The game seemed like a homerun derby for Gary Sheffield who had a two run dinger in the second and was robbed of another. Marcus Thames and Bradon Inge also went deep in the win.

The agent for Twins pitcher Francisco Lariano wants to know why his client is still in the minors after compiling a 7-0 record for Rochester.

The Yankees have agreed to a tentitive deal with first baseman Richie Sexson, who had been released by the Mariners.

David Ortiz is wowing the crowds in Pawtucket after hitting a homer in his Thursday night rehab debut. Big Papi has been out of the line-up since injuring his wrist on May 31st.

Speaking of the Red Sox, they're not too found of their left fielder Manny Ramirez and his blabbering mouth.

Despite missing the All-Star game due to illness, Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum is expected to make his scheduled start on Sunday. Lincecum checked into a New York hospital on Tuesday with flu-like symptoms and dehydration.

1995 Rookie of the Year (who totally stole it from a real rookie Chipper Jones) Hideo Nomo has called it a career.

Dodger Stadium is expected to host the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Nascar Update:
Scrubs star John C. McGinley has been named the Grand Marshall of the Brickyard 400.

Scott Speed is hoping to make his Cup debut by the end of the season.

News&Notes: The Jazz have reportedly signed Deron Williams to a four year deal that could be worth up to $70 million...Cleveland Browns WR Joe Jurevicius will likely miss the beginning of the season with a knee injury...An autopsy concluded that 19 year old UCF redshirt freshman Ereck Plancher had a gene, sickle cell that has been tied to 10 other deaths since 2000...Miami will use at least two quarterbacks this season...UCLA saftey Bret Lockett will miss the season opener against Tennessee after violating the team's academic policy. Kid you have to get the smart cheerleaders to do your work for you...After his crazy ride earlier this week, UFC star Rampage Jackson will undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Yeah, that's probably a good call.
