Coke Zero 400

Winner: Kyle Busch

Recap: There were some intense moments after the checker flag dropped on the Coke Zero 400, but those moments didn’t include fisticuffs. Instead, the crowd waited with anticipation to see whether Kyle Busch or Carl Edwards had taken the victory. After Nascar reviewed the tape, Busch was declared the winner, giving him a circuit best six victories this season. Busch battled back from early steering problems that dropped him back into the pack, but fought his way forward taking the lead from Jeff Gordon with four laps to go and fending off a charging Carl Edwards to win the race. Gordon had one of his best shots at winning this season, pacing 46 laps before a late run in with Edwards cost him a chance at victory.

Shout Outs: Robby Gordon finished sixth, picking up just his second top 10 of the season. The finish moved him up two spots to 30th in points, over 400 points ahead of Joe Nemechek who is 36th.

Disappointments: Jeff Gordon had a tough night after being knocked in the rear by Edwards which sent him spinning. Gordon has yet to win a race this season, while Hendrick Motorsports has only won twice this season. Equaling Gordon’s distress was Tony Stewart, who had raced up to third position but was forced to step out of his car on lap 76 due to illness. He was replaced by J.J. Yeley who eventually finished 20th after two late race run-ins.
